Still happy with it? Any other issues after that lid switch?

Overall it’s been a good extractor. No more problems with the switch. I wish the frame was a bit more sturdy but it does a good job.

FYI, reversable directions only benefit tangential extracting with swing baskets. Radials like the one in this video, spin out the same in either direction. Civan uses the same motor for radials and tangentials with swing baskets, most likely.

I put out 2 swarm traps 9 days ago, haven't had time to get the rest out. I checked then today and both have colonies in them. I'm 2 for 2 so far. One is 6 ft off the ground and the other is only 5. I need to get the other 5 out soon as i can. Good luck brother.

I was absolutely going to build these to catch on my stand, but a wise beekeeper told me I was overthinking the equipment. He suggested to just use a use a bottom board, empty medium super, and an entrance reducer on the medium setting. Then put your deep box/cover as usual on top.

I had the same problem. I turned the entrance to the queen excluder and the wasp was not able to enter.the problem with that is honey bees can get in,but the queen can not.I’m retired and can check the boxes several times a day but that gets old. I have killed several wasps .I-haves seen scout bees coming in and out of the boxes and I have seen a wasp enter one of the boxes while bees were in there. I later saw a wasp go in one of my boxes today.The bee activity had slowed down so I climbed up closed the entrance ,took the lid off ,pulled out the first frame and I saw the little witch hanging on the bottom of the frame. Luckily the wasps reflexes were slow and I was able to crush the wasp .I’m thinking about putting up a (Why) wasp,hornet,and yellow jacket trap about 20’ from the swarm trap. In the past I have used this wasp,hornet and Yellow Jacket trap in the past and they do work.

Questions Josh, have you mixed 2:1 yet? Was a 1/2 pump strong enough to mix 2:1 if you have would a 3/4 or 1 hp be better. Hoping to learn from your experiences.
@beardedbeeworks261

I mixed about 3 tanks of 2:1 this past fall. It did well but the pump did get a little warm. Looking back I would have used lager piping like 2”. I larger pump would not hurt anything.

@@beardedbeeworks261 thanks, but I had another question because I really like your ingenuity on using the transfer pump. Where did you get the trigger nasal and how did it work out with the 2:1 syrup and do you see any improvement needed? I really like this

@@OklahomaBeekeeper you can get them at about any farm supply store. It is a fuel nozzle. Mine doesn’t have an automatic kick of like a gas pump but I wish it did. I will probably upgrade it this spring.

Wow great video Josh! It was really nice to see you again! We’ve been missing your videos for sure! Hopefully you can find more time this year to share your ladies with us!! Can’t wait to see some videos on the creamer! We are gonna try to raise some queens this year for the first time and hoping that next year our first will bee creamed honey! We bought a Lyson bottling tank last year and we love it! Lyson seems to be able to back up its reputation on quality so far from what we’ve seen! We’ll be waiting on a video!! God Bless Josh and pray that 2023 is a great year for you and your family!!

Your bee yard looks real nice. I wanted to ask how do you keep the colony boxes nice and clean? I've been painting my boxes and they get scummed up so fast that its not even funny. Is there a way to get it so stuff doesn't mess up the paint so fast? Plus, how do you keep the lids from getting brick stains? I'm in a wind tunnel area so I have to have the bricks on the lids. I tried wrapping the bricks in aluminum foil taped up and that helped a bit but didn't solve it. Thanks.

I use an exterior latex and most of it has some level of gloss. I get it from the big box stores like Lowes or Home Depot and it is returned and the price is greatly reduced. Other than that I don’t do anything special to keep things clean.
