Final Update To "Still Alive": The Game I Want To Make - Project Settlement

Күн бұрын

This is the final video to both the "Still Alive" series and KOKOSterns KZbin channel. I will be showing and explaining Eyals passion project: Settlement (or sttlmnt as he started spelling it).
Settlement is supposed to be a 2D omnidirectional hybrid of a strategy game with a single currency base building / expansion system combined with exploration aspects turning the game into a rogue like experience. You're in control of the main character who will indirectly take control of peasants by assigning them roles, as well as set out to explore to improve available buildings and hero skills. Each run is supposed to take up to one hour at which point you'll try to slay the enemy which threatens your settlement.
If you are interested in taking up this concept and working on the idea, please get in touch with me via spir3lli@gmail.com so that I can share all available material and invite you to the discord channel.
Thank you all for being there for Eyal and supporting him.

I'm so sorry to hear of Eyal's passing away. I worked with him as our team lead at Akelius, making games. He was a funny, generous and intelligent guy who was so passionate about games, and vegan food of course! He would bring in tasty cookies and cakes that you made almost every day and share them with our team and the whole floor sometimes! We had lots of great chats over lunch and lots of laughs. I'm just very sad to hear we have lost Eyal. Rest in peace my friend ❤️

Hi 'Elly' - I'm an older guy in my late 60s now - a gamer, in the UK in 2023. So, I just bought Baldur's Gate 2 EE...and found KOKOStern's vids - re both BG2EE and his illness. My first wife died in 2003 of cancer in the UK...so just dropping this here just in case you ever happen to see it. I do hope and pray that you're getting towards some sort of 'new normal' life for yourself. It happens gradually, and life memories will trip you up...but somehow a new-normal does begin to come along. And, I know, you'll never forget your love for the wonderful person they were. Eventually the bad memories reduce, but the precious memories are always there. Blessings bloss. TD.

I saw the sad news a few days ago. I’m so sorry for your loss. He always seemed so dignified when talking about his illness and what he faced. I’m really sorry for your loss. Even though I only knew kokostern through his videos I could see how passionated he was about the things he loved: his games, projects and more importantly you. You have been there day-in-day-out for him, so I thank YOU for doing it, for being, most possibly , the main reason for kokostern to keep fighting his illness. Please accept my sincere condolences, my respect and my admiration for everything you have done for such a genuine guy. P.S. Thank you Eyal for sharing your knowledge with us. I still feel the emptiness and every action I take during the day just reminds me of that person. But I'm grateful even burdened with all this pain. Because I was fortunate enough to spend that little time together, which defined me, guided me, and first and foremost taught me what true love really is. The first time I watched Kokostern was only a couple of weeks ago when I watched him play Baldur’s Gate II. He was so passionate and funny in the videos. I’m so sorry he couldn’t make it until Baldur’s Gate III came out earlier this month. Having lost a close friend very recently myself, I’d like to share this quote form Irvin Yalom’s book with every one of you touched by Kokostern: “The way to value life, the way to feel compassion for others, the way to love anything with greatest depth is to be aware that these experiences are destined to be lost.” Thank you for all the joy you gave us, Kokostern!

A friend who played BG2 and often discussed the series with KOKOStern actually told me that he'd have loved BG3 and knowing that brings me joy. We can't focus on all the things he missed out on, but how much greatness is out there and all he got to experience. Others will experience the game and be passionate about it, I'm sure. I thought it was about a game he had mentioned and spoken of before and left a comment before the video began, I am so sorry. I know it's of no comfort to you now, and although I didn't know him terribly well we had been correspondent for some time. His optimism was so much greater then sum of even my parts and weep I as I type these words. I am effectively a stranger to you, and while it might just seem like empty platitude I assure I mean it wholly when I say of there is anything I can do to assist in anyway I can I would be honored to do so. I am so so so sorry, and in the weight of his absence it must seem as though everything is now will be forever less. Don't surrender to despair or nihilism, it's cliché to say it will get easier but it will. Please be mindful of my offer. When my husband died quite unexpectedly I was in such a state that I don't know how I ended up where I am now when it was though I would care for nothing and no one for the remainder of life. I won't presume to understand the nature of your loss simply because I went through something similar, I do understand the nature of grief and if you need to talk or anything, I am here for you. -Vallin

He looked young on that video which I find curious since Baldur's Gate 2 was an old game. I got curious and wanted to learn more about him, and I saw this video with "still alive" in the title. He looked older in the thumbnail, it's always nice to see a fellow gamer still enjoying these games after all these years. May he be glorious in the next adventures in The Beyond. 😊
