FINAL Verdict EGO Aluminum Deck Mower LM2206sp LM2200sp

I own this thing since a while now. This machine eats anything else alive. These days, I cut around 20 hours a week. Used to have Hondas, Ariens, Greenworks, and heck, anything else in between. I used a Milwaukee mostly before. So I will compare it to a Milwaukee. I worn that machine to near death. So. The way the Milwaukee navigate is better, but I do not mind loosing it with what I gain in return. Meaning the way you can throttle the speed as you go vs the power and the width of this EGO that are noticeably greater. Turns out VERY time saver. On ignored tall wet grass, expect 30% time saving or more compared to a Milwaukee. Single handle adjustment is a thing no professional wants. It turns a machine into something loose and wobblily. And Yes, I have bent Milwaukee's single handle mechanism few times. I adjust this EGO in microseconds. There's no gain in a single handle. Added complexity with an extra failure point. And I will not sacrifice rigidity for something I do not even find handier. The deck ventilates much better and bags much better. Plugs far less. This bag handle noticeably larger loads. Those wheels are indeed a charm. I can pull back this mower easily. The traction on steep hills is much better than the Milwaukee. There's a lag when you engage the drive that may irritates some. The drive noise too. That noise disappear with earbuds ... Reasons to prefer a Milwaukee would be: Lighter weight (more transportable and easier to swing), Already with Milwaukee battery platform, Budget, You like the Red color.

Oups. I forgot. There's another thing I prefer on the MIlwaukee. There's no height stopper on the handle. That's pretty handy when I need to "sink" the mower on a negative slope. Meaning those occasions one will let the mower go down a short and stiff slope, and pull it back in such a way, that yourself will not engage in the slope. When one have to cut along the side of road. On mowers like the EGO, inevitably, the handle rise up up to a point one can barely hold the mower ... I will check if there's a way to get rid of that stopper. Also, There's no provision to keep the Handle height adjustment unlock. The handle is long indeed. It's good and bad. On large flat terrain, this is rather very good. On short technical terrains, it's bad.

Also. Once a mower reach that weight, 4 wheels drive would not be, indeed, a luxury. Yet on flat land, because on these very good wheels, it is surprisingly easy to pull. There's no rear discharge. I created one with a 2 inches spacer, so the rear lid stays open somewhat. Like a Honda. And the side discharge is an option. Talking about Honda, I miss the adjustable shutter. That allowed me to adjust the level of mulching. With a plastic plug, it's on or off. I'm stone cutter, and built like a Neanderthal, so I could not care less about the weight of this thing. I'm 5'-4". 200 lbs. And not fat at all. So 5'-4" x 5'-4" x 5'-4". But I'm aware that on "technical" terrains, average human may struggle. Meaning many obstacles. You have to go back-and-forth and turn 180 often. Many slopes that you cannot cut perpendicularly. Meaning, if you go strait up a slope, this thing beats down the Milwaukee. It's when you uphill around obstacles that an average 175 lbs may struggle. Personal preferences are one thing that should guide your choice. To me, the only limiting factors I see, is the weight and reduced manoeuvrability.

I agree with most of your dislikes and likes. Though I would keep the blue tooth. It can do software updates when they come out. It can give you information about your mow and mower, all through the EGO Connect app. (My app still shows it is still in Beta) Also, in the app, there is a super tubo mode. I have never used it, but I believe It does increase the blade speed beyond turbo mode. Also my mower can change speeds on the fly, no need to turn it off? Maybe part of an update? One additional dislike is the whine in the drive system. I manually push my mower most of time for exercise, but when I use the self propelled function I had to learn to ignore the sound but it reminds me of our old battery powered sit in toy vehicle my daughter used to ride in. Overall I love it, and on air quality alert days I don't feel guilty anymore when my yard needs a cut and trim. I would also not want it any heavier so the size is good for me. I also find the hand placement on the handles less comfortable then my Honda mower. I think this is due to the drive engagement button placement. Thank you for your video's, you definitely played a role in my decision to purchase this mower and other EGO products.

Solid review! I recommend “tightening up” the production a little by maybe scripting your narration and putting more time into editing. That might help cut down on too many fillers like “ya know”. Project Farm does a nice job with the format. Keep up the great work!

Bought the Milwaukee mower instead of LM22 because no side discharge was available for the LM22 as of mid May. I am very pleased with the Milwaukee mower results, run time, ease of wheel adjustment and more. I found it worth the extra dollars.

Bought it mid spring when they included the extra 5ah battery. That made the price easier to justify. I like the weight my previous non ego mower was too light to give a decent cut without doing a second mow. I do like the the individual height adjustments but im used to mowing one click lower in the front. I did the software update through the app , it did unlock a tubro plus mode (when you link it in the app and blade speed while mowing. Only real dislike is that the self propel does still lock the wheels when turning and i have to quick press the self propel button to disengage it.

FYI you can change the blade speed higher or lower WHILE mowing at anytime. Could have been something they pushed through a firmware update. I ran the update on mine through the EGO Connect app.

battle of the mowers haha, i think the aluminum mower is pretty cool, if i had the money i would probabaly just go and get the select cut with the plastic deck, the aluminum is expensive and heavy but also the deck will last forever, grant it if its taken care of, im still rocking the sp21000 lawn mower which ive had for 6 years now, its a good mower, only thing ill have to replace is the front two tires and then it will be all good. but if i had the money i would for sure ge the select cut mower with the plastic deck. great video my friend and i wiah you, your fiancé and Sunshine a great entry into Fall and a safe and fun labor day

One thing you forgot to mention which is a problem I think you stated in a different video about the new aluminum deck mower is that the wheels lock up also. When you disengaged the drive and try to go backwards, the wheels locked up on all Ego self propelled lawnmowers. To me this is one of the biggest nuisances and one that Ego should address. I know some other battery powered lawnmower brands do not have this problem so it is obviously something that can be changed. Let’s go EGO please fix this problem. I encountered that on my LM2156SP - I find that momentarily pushing the SP button and letting go will reset that... or letting go of the button before I stop moving. That'll release the SP drive motor. After a few cuts, I got used to doing that and haven't had the issue crop up again.

Great review. I thought about the aluminum deck, but because of the weight decided against it. I have a lot of maneuvering when I mow (not just straight back and forth), and the weight would be too cumbersome. I tried a 30” Ryobi, thinking a wider cut would be nice. Well, the wider cut was nice, but if you think the aluminum EGO is a beast 😂 I also agree with all your dislikes. Al, keep well, I have ya in my morning prayers.🙏

One of Ego’s reasons for having the dual lever height adjust is to set your rake if that is needed. I would prefer the single lever as well. I think the weight is just fine for me but I am used to my commercial 21 inch Toro being 125 lbs. A 30 in sounds like a good idea but they are significantly heavier and more expensive. My commercial SCAG 30 inch is 235 lbs and an extra $1400 over the Toro.

I thought I was bad. I have the push mower from 2016 and changed the blade for the first time this spring. If you bag, I would recommend the high lift blade. The new blade is giving me a much better cut and less grass and leaves stay on ground and more get in the bagger. Changing the blade was easy, too, and only spent about $25. I should have done it 3-4 years ago.

No way I'm paying $1200 for a push lawn mower. I don't like the idea of Bluetooth on a lawn mower, just another gimmick and something else to break. I'm trying to get away from the small gas engines; I have the EGO chainsaw, weedeater, and leaf blower, and love them. But that price is killer, I'll probably buy the cheapest gasser now, especially since I don't have a lot to mow. Thanks for the great review! It helps us all make informed decisions.

I have the 2130 with the 10 Amp hour battery. I can just get my whole yard done. With the aluminum deck and the extra weight I seriously doubt I would have enough battery. Something to consider.

Why would you want 4-wheel drive? You'd have to disengage the drive every time you turn around. I lift the front wheels of my front-wheel drive gas mower to turn to the opposite direction, leaving the drive engaged. Are these front wheel or rear-wheel drive?

I managed to get mine to quit on some thick grass. I had a gas rider that I never had quit on me in 17 years but it was rated a 22HP , I’m guessing the 2206 isn’t anywhere near that regardless of its blade tip speed.

22HP... holy crap. I bet that mower didn't sip gas. Before getting Ego, my mower was like 6.5HP (or less) but I had a very small lawn at the time. I believe I heard in one of the review videos for the aluminum deck mower it had about 10-12HP.

Funny, I have the LM2156SP and thought about getting the aluminum deck model... glad I didn't now. An extra 30lbs? No thanks. Even my bumpy yard gets a nice, smooth cut from the 2156. It's a better cut than my gas mower by far [even with brand-new blades on the gasser]. But I don't want any more weight. And the non-collapsible handle? Yuck. Thanks for the review! Definitely got rid of any buyer's remorse :D

@@TechMadeEzy I never had one with a screen, but I don't really want one. The battery level indicator on the battery is pretty easy to see when I'm mowing.
