Amazing tutorial thank you! One question that I didn't see answered; is it possible to copy and paste masks between effects? For example, I analyze a mask for a color correction, and then want to use the same magnetic mask for a sharpening effect. Do I have to reanalyze the same mask for each of the seperate effects?
@postpros-e2 ай бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching! Unfortunately, no, at this point there is no copying a mask between effects. If you want to use the same mask for multiple effects, you'll have to do the "copy on top of itself" technique, mask the top instance with just the magnetic mask, and add any and all effects to that.

Terrific, very useful. Questions: When you mentioned exporting them with an alpha channel, how do you do that? is it just a 4444 export, or is there a setting?
@postpros-eАй бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! Always great to hear that it helped. Yes, you'd need to export with 4444. Great question. I probably should have mentioned/shown that, but it's one of those "everybody knows that" things in my brain that I try to avoid. 😄 The only alternatives would be an image sequence (e.g. PNG) or HEVC with alpha, but both are only possible through Compressor or a Compressor preset. And HEVC with alpha is actually an Apple "hack", not a part of the standard. So it either won't show the alpha on Windows or just look really horrible. So something to keep in mind, if relevant. 😉
@jeffreythemeditatorАй бұрын
@@postpros-e That's what I thought. I noticed after knocking around in tiimeline that by duplicating the timeline, a title can be put behind the figure without exporting and re-importing. I think that is what confused me: I thought I'd need to export, reimport and layer the isolated figure. Makes me wonder: when would I need to export an alpha channel?
@postpros-eАй бұрын
@@jeffreythemeditator Yes, I actually show that with titles in the video at 12:00. 😉 And as I also mentioned in the video, you might need it if you want to send it to another app for further (e.g. VFX?) processing. Not relevant for *_within_* FC, no.
@jeffreythemeditatorАй бұрын
@@postpros-e it was completely my befuddlement, your video is clear. but this is all so new to me that I just didn't think it would be that immediate.
@KnotsUntied2 ай бұрын
Your video explains aspects better than others on this topic...much appreciated. I think it would be worthwhile to test the Magnetic Mask with clips that have a lot of noise or film grain, subjects with different types of hair (especially blond hair against a light background), and various lighting conditions. But the wrestling clip was extremely well done and very informative.
@postpros-e2 ай бұрын
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback! But ONE has to be careful not to mistake this for a replacement for a well-done green screen. Something that will give you thelevel of detail that you are looking for. I think it might be expecting a little much to have something like this, with its overall quality and especially speed, to compete with it. But then it is sure to get better and better with every new version of Final Cut! Who knows, you may get what you want someday! 😄

"the mask doesn't show the color"? 🤔 Do you mean the mask overlay?
@Moe-Talks2 ай бұрын
@@postpros-e Yes. It will show at first when I first mask. But let's say after I've run through it and I realize I missed a spot, when I go back, I can still edit, but the overlay is gone for whatever reason.
@postpros-e2 ай бұрын
@@Moe-Talks Hmm. And you're sure you have *_the mask_* selected and not the filter? I know that it can _flicker_ when analyzing and/or skimming, but I haven't seen it disappear entirely yet. Ah well, version 1's. Whatcha gonna do. 😉

As always, best FCP chanel content ❤ I have a question, there’s lots of misunderstanding about how to process LOG footage on Final Cut (I tag you on X about this). For you what’s the best way ? Thanks a lot 🙏🏼
@postpros-e2 ай бұрын
Thank you, sir! Much appreciated. ☺ I'm unfortunately only very rarely on X. Not my thing. And the LOG question isn't an easy one, since there are a bunch of criteria to consider. There is no one right answer. The most ideal situation would be to shoot with a LUT so you know what you're getting, and then use that in post, obviously. If your camera doesn't do that, then at least find an LUT from the manufacturer or third-party. Then simply go from there with your color correction. But I've also corrected log footage entirely from scratch without an LUT. So again, there is really no one right answer. Especially when camera manufacturer, etc. are unknowns.

@postpros-e2 ай бұрын
Not sure what your point is, sorry. We already know that DVR has a "Magic" mask. So? It's just too bad that it's not nearly as good and a huge pain to use. And Final Cut Pro is a "one time sale" and has been for 13+ years. So again: what's your point?

Need to have a refine brush like in affinity photo so you can get better hair masks. Maybe that will come later.
@postpros-e2 ай бұрын
Yes and no. If the AI can't recognize details at that level, then a better brush won't change much. And in the end, it's not really meant to replace a well-made green screen, which will give you that detail if done right. But that said, I would like to have at least an option for a soft edge.

Great video, as always. I was curious to know about the performance on M4 Macs because the Neural Engine is much powerful, but it seems that the difference is not that massive: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKPcgn97asioe7ssi=-nmZEAIbzs8fiWDz
@postpros-e2 ай бұрын
I'm curious as well and will definitely be testing it in the future. Of course it will make the most relevant difference if you are masking extremely long clips. So the question is how important and relevant it ultimately is. But from what I have seen, it is in fact, almost twice as fast. So if it's in fact, something that you do every day for some reason, I suppose it could make a real difference. And there are of course other features that use the neural engines as well. Either way, thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked it!
