My first exposure to Final Fantasy "II" was at a friend's house in early high school. Another friend had brought over a VHS tape of gameplay. So I sit and watch FF2 here while they're playing D&D. I had played FF1 on the NES so I was intrigued. But I was so impressed by the fact that these were defined characters having dialog with each other, actually portraying blocked dramatic scenes. The removal of the Darkness ability in the US version really hurt the Paladin fight. Darkness consumes his HP in order to use it, so in the original the player would know that and just let the Dark Knight drain its own HP with repeated use of Darkness. This was not only my first Final Fantasy, but my introduction to RPGs when I was a child. This game kicked off my fondness for RPGs that continues strong 30+ years later.

This guy deserves an award for how well composed and exhaustive his videos are, and not to mention his dedication to upload consistently (even really long games). Thank you!

This channel should have more followers. The retro gaming scene is giant. That dog has helped me beat quite a few games on my switch.

My kids and I love your videos. We have a golden retriever named Jecht, so whenever they see you’ve put out a new video they tell me “Daddy look! The Great Jecht is playing videogames!”

No game too hard for 'im, I wager? After all... The Great Jecht Cannot Be Defeated!

The first RPG and Final Fantasy I ever played. I had never played a game with such an engrossing story and diverse characters before. It quickly became my favorite.

This and Zelda were my favorite games for the SNES. While I loved my Sega Genesis - I envied the SNES folls for these two games. Thanks for this, brings back memories of fun! I still play these today.

Chrono trigger was much better than FF II. But this FF was definitely in the top ten SNES cartridges.

@@A_Stereotypical_Hereticnah, thats all personal preference, buddy. I hated CT. Still dont enjoy playing it, so don't come and tell someone that a game is better, because it's only better to you possibly.
@A_Stereotypical_Heretic11 ай бұрын
@@ChromeCobra well obviously I'm sharing an opinion about my favorite games...just the like the op was 😅 don't get so upset brother. I mean besides Chrono is still considered one of the best games ever made, and always beats out FF 2 when polls and articles are written.
@Tolbat10 ай бұрын
@@A_Stereotypical_Heretic Sure there were other games but these two were the early ones and I remember these to this day. CT is definitely a cool game. But I was playing Lunar on my Sega CD at that point.

Uncharted Waters 2 New Horizons playthrough with every character would be a months worth of great content from UCBVG. You do such an awesome job!

That would be a fantastic game to cover as well but knowing how much time it probably takes him to "beat", edit, etc -- I'm happy with what he has put out and played some games I never would have -- Point and click style on NES for sure. However, I would certainly be happy with any (or all) of the Koei games from the 8, 16 or 32 bit eras if he got around to covering them because these videos are so well done. Rise of the Phoenix and Liberty or Death are two of my favorites by Koei that I wouldn't have had the patience for as a teenager but I've played through them a few times now in the past 3-4 years...very addicting. I haven't played any of the 8-16 bit Romance of the Three Kingdom's games so I can't make a comparison, but RotP was awesome in my opinion -- all it took was finding a PDF of the game manual online to figure out what I needed to do and I was hooked. Very few guides or even just "play throughs" online last I looked but like LoD, once you get going you really don't need one.

On a secondary note -- You may already know this, but Jason Graves does some fantastic reviews and he's covered both Uncharted Waters games in his "Every SNES RPG" playlist. He's young too, probably 20 years younger than most of us here and I think he does a great job with his reviews. He's got a more in depth style of coverage which is refreshing since many are geared towards the Twitter 140 characters or less mentality. Within his reviews gives little tips of not so obvious issues he'd run into and I'm talking games that most of us wouldn't think about even playing, but even if we did back in the day were huge headaches or the rental that didn't come with instructions -- the type that would make most people quit games and never play them again -- once you see the list, you'll know what I'm talking about. He's also got a really good, in depth review of "Chrono Cross" titled "Old disowned Video" under his "Not every SNES RPG" playlist. It's about an hour long -- gave me a whole new perspective on that game and he should really "relist" it so more people get to hear it. I was amongst those who didn't really care for it and haven't played it in almost 20 years, but because of that review, I'm very interested in playing it again. He's got some long plays from a few years ago in the style of UCBVG, which is fine because nobody does it better than this guy (and his dogs). For Jason Graves his reviews are where it's at and is a very underrated channel.

I adore the channel. The amount of work you put into the editing and voice-over is crazy. The commentary is so good, keeps your interest throughout the video.

Omgomgomg. You are doing my favorite game of all time. Got it when it came out and played it al least once a year since. Amazing! Laugh at the scenario all you want, it still became the template for 80% of all SNES RPG and the FF series as a whole.
