Before we ordered our boat, we too appreciated information that other sailing channels shared in their episodes, but we still found ourselves with questions and some uncertainties. Our goal is to share everything we can about the "buying a new boat" and "first time boat owners" experience so that others that are dreaming or working towards this can be well equipped with information. Truly living the dream. Lovely family. If we ever got to that position that is the boat for us too. Thanks so much for sharing your joyous adventure with us. One thing I’m wondering about, having spent time in the tropics where the rain is amazing in its solidity and volume, does the L45 let you catch rain water off the cockpit roof? Channels built in for that purpose? Also is there a lip on the port side flat area above the table seats so that rain won’t run down and under your enclosure fabric and then on to the seats? Thanks for sharing and any info,
@sailingsvoliluki69384 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony! Thank you for your lovely comment and joining our adventure! We have sailed in Southern Florida which gets its share of tropical rain which I agree should almost be called a waterfall given the amount of water that comes pouring out of the heavens :-). Regarding a "rain catch"....I have seen a brilliant catch set up I believe it was on the cabin top of the Xquisite50 catamaran but to the best of my knowledge, there is not a designated water catching system on our boat. That said, we are going to look at setting up "something" that will allow us to catch as much rain water as possible, even if it's a few 5 gallon bucks on the deck :-). Regarding the Port side flat area. I'm assuming you are referring to the Aft Cockpit area? On our boat the port side of the Aft Cockpit does have a rather large flat surface next to the sitting area. I have had the pleasure of sailing with some new Leopard Cat owners and have witnessed first hand how much rain and water can enter the aft cockpit area from this flat ledge. On our boat we have commissioned a manufacturer to make a large window panel which will be zippered at the bottom to keep rainfall or the occasional wave splash from entering the cockpit. I was on a Leopard Catamaran that had this set up and between the Helm Enclosure (Starboard) and Cockpit Port side panel zipped in place, virtually no water entered the cockpit sitting area. Anyway, I hope this answers your questions. If I misunderstood please feel free to reach out to us again, or anytime. All the best! ~Andy and crew
@tonyfromaus78554 жыл бұрын
Thanks yeah that’s the spot. We chartered a 40 and rain fell off roof to there then ran over and down the back of the seats. It seems silly to me because a simple fix is a ridge at the edge of the flat area right at the seat back that would stop any water and divert it to stern. That wouldn’t stop a cushion lounging on there because it’s right at the edge. Easy to put into the mould I would have thought. I do have to say that I really like your attitude and your family... it’s great to follow along on your exciting adventure. What makes it even better is the obvious skills you guys have as story tellers and videographers. I really look forward to your future videos.

Awesome channel and video content. What made you choose leopard versus other catamarans? Thanks
@sailingsvoliluki69384 жыл бұрын
Over the years we've looked at many many catamaran brands and we had the opportunity to sail most of them. In the end we selected the Leopard 45 Catamaran for many reasons, the main ones being build quality, sailing performance and comfort. We have tons of storage available to us, hundreds of gallons of fresh water, large fuel tanks and beautiful spacious interiors......all that on a cat that we've sailed at speeds North of 10 knots! Catamarans tend to either be all comfort or all performance. The comfort usually means slow sailing and the performance brands are mega bucks. The Leopard Catamarans seem to bridge those two worlds very well.
@brettharman89214 жыл бұрын
andy congratz to you guys on the 45, beautiful cat! what were your thoughts on the new upper lounge? why did you opt out on that piece?
@sailingsvoliluki69384 жыл бұрын
Hi Brett, thank you ......we love our Leopard 45.....great boat, well designed and a great sailing cat! Regarding the upper lounge.....it wasn't available when we ordered our 45. The world premiere of the 45 with the upper lounge was at the Miami Boat show this past February (2020). I'm torn to be honest. We love the upper lounge on the 50 however on the 45, to maintain sailing performance the boom was NOT raised which does not allow you to use the upper lounge on the 45 while sailing (if you wanted to), however it's pretty amazing while anchored. That said, if it was available we would not have opted for it as our boat already has a forward and aft cockpit sitting area in addition to the salon table...plenty of places to sit and relax. My thought is the lounge was mainly incorporated for the charter market in general. Still looks pretty cool though.

Watching this from the UK really good channel excellent the way you are filming the purchase - commissioning etc before you go off to sea. Some nicely shot footage, not sure what camera you are using but would be great if you could get an external mic. with a windjammer and this would be the icing on the cake The commentary and dialogue are really important but do some tests with some practice footage as it will be more important when you get on the seas where the wind will really become a nuisance. Thanks for the video...most enjoyable.

nice... why not you sell your AGM battery's , and take that $$$ too and go for Lithium battery's , also keep room to ex pan your solar, like get over size wiring, and prewiring to expan as well at the same time.. i think it is good in time to come..
@sailingsvoliluki69384 жыл бұрын
Anura Yapabandara hi Anura, we thought of that as well but the AGM’s aren’t really worth anything and since we already paid for them we’re going to use them for the year and then look at installing lithium. That said when Just Catamarans installed our solar system, they already pre-wired for lithium so it will be an easy upgrade to the lithium batteries 👍

You seem like nice people, but this should be retitled, "Follow my Family Around the Miami Boat Show", because it teaches nothing about weighing blue water options for your Leopard.
@sailingsvoliluki69384 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, we should be doing a full review of all the options we ordered for our boat for blue water sailing in the next month or so. The video you just watched was the 3rd video we ever made on KZbin so we were still finding our way with editing and content etc. This video was more about the process of finalizing our options with the company (Just Catamarans) who would do all the after market work. The process of selecting the right equipment for our boat was new to us so we thought it was important to attend the Miami Boat Show to see options and equipment we'd be interested in. Also Video #5 is about installing a lot of the options that we ordered and we wanted to use these systems or gadgets so we can speak from experience and knowledge in future videos. Our goal has always been to put videos out that share some good boating, sailing, cruising information with a pinch of entertainment and fun facts. We're learning as we go so we hope you enjoy the videos and continue on the journey with us! :-). All the best! ~Maki
