Finally! A Coating That Can Withstand Tunnel (Contact) Car Washes!!

In this video, I share a coating that can withstand the vigor of automated car washes. Conveyor-driven/tunnel car wash.
The first conveyor-driven automatic car wash appeared in Hollywood, California, in 1940. Conveyor-driven automatic car washes consist of tunnel-like buildings into which customers (or attendants) drive.
Before entering the automated section of the wash tunnel, attendants may prewash customers' cars.

The car wash typically starts cleaning with chemicals called presoaks applied through special arches. CTAs, or "chemical tire applicators", apply specialized formulations, which remove brake dust and build-up from the surface of the wheels and tires.
A high-pressure arch may direct water at the vehicle's surface at the end of a car wash's presoak.

Mitters are ribbon-like components that suspend cloth strips or sheets over the tunnel

The car is rinsed with fresh water immediately, followed by extra services if required. In many car washes, the first of these services is a polish wax. After the polish, the wax application is typically a retractable mitter or top brush and, in some cases, side brushes or wrap-around brushes. Next is a protectant, which creates a thin protective film over a vehicle's surface. Protectants generally repel water, which assists in drying the car and aiding in the driver's ability to see through their windshield during rain. A low-end wax or clear coat protectant follows the primary protectant. A drying agent is typically applied at the end of the tunnel to remove water from the vehicle's surface before forced air drying. After the drying agent, there may be a "spot-free" rinse of soft water that has been filtered of the salts usually present and sent through semi-permeable membranes to produce highly purified water that will not leave spots. Sometimes tunnel washes can damage the finish of your vehicle by scratching the clear coat. This coating can withstand most of that damage.

2. Wipe down with panel prep
3. Wearing nitril gloves in well ventilated area, apply coating to applicator pad and spread out evenly on hard surfaces.
4. Wait 2 minutes and wipe off
5. Look for high spots.
6. Let cure 12 hr.

I do, but touchless only. I work where there's a lot of falling rock grit near several cement and asphalt plants so my car is constantly coated in dirt and limestone dust that falls on it all day. If it rains, the limestone dust leaves terrible water spots unless the rain is strong enough to fully flush the car of dust. If it doesn't rain my car is covered in sharp highly abrasive grit. BC1 certainly helps but I don't think anything will actually keep my car clean in that environment. Oh and I'm near a rail yard so I'm getting iron fall out too. I run through the touchless then douse the car with a mix of UWW+/ONR and use the plushest highest pile microfiber I can find to wipe it down. It's time to get some CarPro reset, the BC1 is getting a bit clogged after 6 months.

Only in an emergency (sap, tar, etc) and on my older 2005 truck. I hand wash my other vehicles. I have a pressure washer, 3 buckets, D.I. Rinse.

My mom goes to an automatic car wash and she has had several pieces of plastic trim ripped off of her vehicle which is in good condition otherwise. She was furious and went back to he carwash and they had a whole pile of trim pieces from the months they have been open. They told her she could pick from to see if hers was there! 😂 Crazy

I use BC 7 on vehicles here in Michigan. It’s the only coating I’ve found that holds up to the extreme Brine & Salts on our roadways. It’s a no brainer for us

i didn’t use Blue Collar however i did use another brand and that stuff works as advertised. I presume they’re basically the same. it applied exactly as this gentleman said and it’s still holding up beautifully.

The new express washes have neoprene brushes and they dont swirl up your paint like the soft cloth brushes like before. What you DON'T want to do tho is dry the vehicle right after the express wash with a dry towel. Always use a quick detailer as a drying aid. It's the drying that causes post wash that causes most of the swirls.

From 35 years of automatic wash operation and supply, I have numerous comments. You seem to have essentially endorsed the modern friction wash state of the art. The closed cell foam material used on wraparounds and the like is LOUD, but that doesn’t mean it is harming your vehicle. The material holds minimal liquid solution and uses one of God’s favorites, centrifugal force as well as gravity. Consequently it is VERY difficult to retain grit and use it to scuff the paint, as you so ably demonstrate on your frequently washed shop truck. The washing solution may well be neutral or mildly acidic, not alkaline. Finally, even though you don’t purchase an extra service protectant, your vehicle IS receiving a hydrocarbon additive to induce beading and therefore dryer performance. Washes get a bum rap because some operators cheapen their product. The particular facility you chose is a top tier operation which has much to do with how good your truck looks

Brian, I am thinking about trying a ceramic coating for a 2015 Q5. I'm considering a 1- 3 year product from you. My question is this: If I don't like having a coating or the coating is starting to wear off, how do I get it 100% removed so I can apply either another coating or go back to PolySeal? Awesome vid boss! 1 question. I work in building construction and every day i leave the jobsite covered in dust and every other air particle the site stirs up. I try to keep the car clean as often as possible, but keeping the water bill down is pretty tough doing so. Is there a product you would recommend that i can benefit from? Thanks for your time !!

With BC7 when layering if you miss that "2 hour" window for the second coat should you wait until full cure to do the second coat or at that point is it too late because it will just reject itself?
