What a great flight. I am 72 years old I I know this for a fact. Back in the late 1960s and 1970s there were two types of transport aircraft that the general public could identify, even if they knew nothing about aviation. The first was a B 727 and the second was a Learjet.

For proper fuel loading on the Lear 35 the Tip tanks and Wing tanks are your Main Tanks. The Fuselage Tank is your "Aux Tank" and is only filled by the electric wing tanks. Then when you want to use the Fuselage Tank, you transfer the fuel back into the Wing tanks. The Wing Tanks are your engine feed tanks. Its physically not possible to take off with empty tip tanks, and full wing and fuselage tanks. All refueling is done manually into the tip tanks. And if fueling a Lear with tip tanks the rule was 100 gallons per side until full.

I work at FBO at local airport. Absolutely hate fueling these bastards. Usually you gotta fuel 50 gallons on one side then to the the other side and do 50 and go back and forth cause the plane leans to far to one side or the other if you do a full 100 on either side. Seen one that had a wing hit the ground one time.

Man, when I was 19 years old, I started my airframe and powerplant apprenticeship at my uncles business, called FS air service in Alaska. Sadly he passed away from scuding into a island at St. George in Alaska. But while becoming an airframe and powerplant (A&P) I worked on Lear 35s and 25s. in the late 90s very early 2000s. The 35 has a special place in my heart and the 25 due to how loud its engines are. This video brought back so many cool memories. Thanks for sharing.

This is a good looking model, I am a mechanic who has worked on a Lear 35A, and the nose wheel well is that spartan, not much up there, the black dot on the RH wing is the ice detection spot, so that if you build up any ice you will see it against the black color. The black on the wing tip landing lights is so the lights don't shine into the cockpit at night. Our airplane only had the one on the RH tip tank, not sure if it was available on both sides. The clamshell thrust reversers, not sure if it was ever available as an option on the 35, it was on the 31 for sure. The 35 had the Aeronca thrust reversers which slide back and forth to open the reverser section.

There was a fantastic article by someone who was a junior CPL in the auto industry freight business in the 80s, when a lot of operators realised the cost-per-mile of a secondhand Learjet was about the same as a Beech 18, and a lot of small freighter pilots found themselves delivering cardboard boxes of high-value car parts around the midwestern US in Learjets. A lot of shady practices before the FAA cracked down… like having covert "go fast" switches under the panel to disconnect the mach limiter…

Emanuel, your extensive real-world knowledge and experience with aircraft systems and piloting expertise makes you (in my opinion) the consummate CFI/I for flight simming. As a child of the 60s, I became enthralled with the Learjet 35 at a young age and had a die-cast model of one when I was about 7 years old. After watching this video, I've decided to purchase the Learjet you demonstrated as soon as it's available for public release. Thank you so much!

I’ve been flying this plane a lot it’s really great fun and a good mix of modern and classic instruments. It’s takes some effort and knowledge to fly well and has a lot of quirks. However once you get to know these things it’s a dream to fly. I must admit I always loved the Learjet style and this just looks amazing. There’s a great community on their discord page with so much knowledge being shared it’s a great read. My fav jet in the sim atm and knowing the effort being put into it by the devs means it’s going to be a special aircraft in the sim when finally released. Worth every penny at this stage and If it gets close to 414 I b/e /a very happy pilot. Thx for the videos and showing how rewarding this aircraft is to fly properly

To lock the upper door, there is a switch on the lower door, right side near the clickspot for lowering the lower door which "sucks" in the upper door to enable you to lock it. I suppose in real the seals are hard and difficult to compress, so it uses an electrical motor to pull the door in on the seals so you can lock it. When opening, you have to flick that switch also so the door will release.

That's neat. I fly into Sedona in real life a lot. Looks pretty realistic. Typically we land runway 21 at Sedona. That turbulence before landing is super realistic. It's the air falling off the mesa at the ends of the runways. It will suck you down. Typically stay a little high. Try to hit the lunch menu at the restaurant the carne asada is where it's at.

Thanks for the video! This is a great addition to FS. Been flying this prerelease for a few days now and cannot complain as a good classic bizjet w/steam gauges has been sorely needed. I see at least one commentor below asking for the Jetstar - I totally agree! Hoping that for the final release flysimware will improve the sounds a bit and support at least a basic level of failure modeling, simplistic engine and electrical would be enough. But even as is, this is very hard to fault. ILS approaches are a gas with this thing.

There are two switches on the side of both power levers. When at idle these can be raised up, then both levers will go back to fuel cutoff. In the virtual cockpit I think you can just click these. There is no need to drag the levers at all. I have those functions bound to my physical TQ condition levers, so I can bring it in, and out of fuel cutoff by moving those levers.

Why did you not use the VS Mode button on the FCU or the ALT Select button. The VS Mode would of kept your Set VS as would of the IAS. And the ALT SEL mode would of captured the ALT FL4500 for you? You can fly this like the BAE-146 with Pitch Sync. This plane is incredible and for a Eraly Access it is in better shape than most Final releases. It has also been updated to 1.5 with many additional Bindings added for the steering lock etc.

I also forgot to mention that the NWS (nose wheel steering) on the 35 series and up are Steer-by-wire. With the NWS switch engaged, steering displacement is a product of both rudder pedal deflection AND force applied. Which can make it a rather exciting taxi for the first timers. If your NWS has a failure, you are still able to steer the aircraft by differential power/braking, but the turning radius and space required increases greatly.

Nice - Purchase when documents are avail. Not correct with less maintenance on one engine. More likely a difference in hours since overhaul with different EGT margin left. Nice to see it simulated. With a new 737, we always staggered with an older engine. With both due for replacement, and changing both engines at same time, testflight is required. Not so with a single engine replacement.. Result is different EGT margin is normal. In summer I rigged with forward thrust set even. In winter I rigged with reverser thrust set even to avoid yaw during rollout on ice/snow. Pilots was happy with this solution.

A Lear45 would surely be lovely, but the avionics are rather complex. I'm rather sure that's why we barely see glass cockpit business jets in MSFS which don't use the WT G1000, 3000 or 5000. They're just as complex as airliners, but sell only a fraction. Probably not worth the investment.

However, I note that there are some requests for the acquisition of business jets like the Lear 45 under FS 2020. We can see this through the fligh sim discussion forums. Moreover, many virtual pilots are forced to download the FSX version of Lear 45, which unfortunately does not give good satisfaction under FS 2020 apparently. Well.. it’s a hot take to say a private jet doesn’t fly that much. At least in Europe, a very good amount of Light and Super-Light private jets indeed see quite a significant number of Hours logged per Year as many of them are operated under an AOC and are available for hire. With my former company they saw about 600 to as high as 800 hrs annually per airframe. I mean… yes, it’s nothing compared to e.g. a FR 737 but yet not a marginal number either. 😅

600-800 hours per airframe is exactly what I mean. Spread that over how many pilots, two or three? An airline pilot will fly those 800 hours himself every year.

Our company had 6 Lear jets that each flew about 300 days per year. To large businesses, they are a time machine, and don’t merely fly the rich guy 12 hrs a year.

you should try nvidia broacast to filter off your background noises. the keyboard / mouse clicks are pretty annoying - no offense just something to improve

I actually tried, but as st3pn56 pointed out it's actually the physical mic picking up the sounds from my keyboard. Not quite sure how I could solve that. Move the mic closer to myself and it creates feedback from the speakers, move it further away and it barely picks me up anymore.

@@A330Driver there's 2 ways, either software noise filtering, or getting a microphone that picks up background noise less, for example Shure SM7B or SM7dB, but you will need additional hardware to run that.

@@A330Driver normally thats what nvidia broadcast is doing? filtering out any backgrond noise and just filter put your voice trough. working amazing and since you have an 4090 its at no / very low cost. sure you had set it up correctly? i can smash on my table or run the vacuum cleaner next to my mic and no one hears these sounds in voicechats

There’s not much to say except to give condolences to all families involved. At this point of writing this message we don’t know why or how the incident even occurred in the first place. The pilots and crew of JL516 did an outstanding job and thanks to their efforts all onboard were able to escape with their lives. Let’s hope more details emerge in the coming days/weeks.

I agree with @A330Driver - in a world of “fast news” (maybe too fast…?) it’s hard to separate speculations from actual objective knowledge. Any speculative theory can’t change much, any accident is a tragedy beyond facts alone. With time, we’ll know more - let’s give the relevant parties that time… 🍀
