I'm hoping this video will be useful to you. I'm looking ahead to traveling and summer trips, and I think I've found a solution to my watering headaches. No more under or overwatered garden while I'm gone 👍🏻

Thanks, Nanay! I really appreciate your encouragement! And yes, I was super happy to have a sponsor reach out to me that I really liked their product line. I turn down nearly everyone who approaches me because I just can't even think about putting my name behind brands that I'm not convinced about myself!

Exactly, and I love that I can program it not to water if it rains while I’m gone. It should really help save water.

Thank you for the video. I am looking for an irrigation solution before I go to France (Nice and Paris) in a few weeks. Are you able to change the programming when you are away from your home on your mobile device? Thanks again.
@NowGardening Жыл бұрын
Hi Nate. Your message made me smile because I'm in the US right now traveling from France, and I set my programming while already away. From what I can tell, everything has functioned beautifully. I'm seeing the last scheduled irrigation as well as the next irrigation in the app. I also have a 24 hr rain delay. I will confirm with you once I return home that everything went well in the garden, but I don't expect there to be any problems since I've previously completed a long weekend trip and the timer was perfect.

Hi Nate. As promised, I’m reporting back after my return from 2 weeks away from home. The timer worked perfectly including the rain delays I had programmed. I harvested peas, lettuce, cilantro, and turnips the day after I arrived.

Cool tech !! Now you have to design zones, some for "heavy" feeders (cukes etc.) and light ones (corn etc.) Awesome Val Cheers J&C 🌱👍

Hi J &C, I’ve still got a ways to go in perfecting the drip irrigation in the raised beds, and it would be great to get to the point that I’m organized enough to get the right amount water to the each plant. Goals!!

Hey Valerie, keep an eye on those soaker hoses if you don't have a really good filter at the spigot. I have hard water and tried soaker hoses when I was a kid and they clogged really quickly with all the calcium deposits. I'm using the Boogie Blue filter that I saw on John Kohler's channel some years ago. Definitely helps with hard water, but since I don't use soaker hoses anymore, my biggest concern was the chlorine and chloramines in my city water. Good luck in the upcoming season!
@NowGardening Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your advice. We luckily don’t have hard water, but it’s still a good thing to keep an eye on. I’m looking to change to drip irrigation this year since soaker hoses don’t provide ideal watering conditions for many crops. Also, we don’t have a lot of chlorine in our water here in France, but I still prefer to use rainwater when our storage tanks are full.

how long does the battery last. No one seems to say anything. It would be nice if the unit had metal fitting instead of cheap plastic
@NowGardening Жыл бұрын
Hi, my battery has been running for about 2 months I think now and the app tells me the battery status to avoid unpleasant surprises. The plastic fitting seems quite sturdy to me, although I always use quick fit fasteners for my water hoses to avoid leaks and breakage in the long run. Hope this helps.
@michelemize Жыл бұрын
Maybe a silly question, but do you leave the water on all the time? Doesn't the pressure build up?
@NowGardening Жыл бұрын
Good question. The water is on all the time, but there is a valve that keeps it from coming out from what I understand. When the timer turns on, you hear a click and then can hear the water running through to the hose. I’m not sure, but other timers I’ve had have worked the same way (water on all the time but not actually running until the set time). I do check my timers and hoses from time to time to make sure nothing is leaking since my hookup is in a location I never see otherwise. Hope this helps!

Basically the same concept as a yard sprinkler system timer, just smaller scale. Great idea though

I like toys. This looks like a small version of a commercial timer/meter. If it works your travels should be worry free.

I have a long trip coming up to see my family, and you can’t believe how relieved I am to finally have a solution to my watering nightmares. Last summer I was gone for 3 weeks and lost several of my crops due to a sprinkler malfunction 😥

@@NowGardening I went on vacation one year and lost my corn crop. I told the neighbors to eat it. Yep. Hit it's peak while we were gone.

@@ElainesDomain Ouch. I really hate that for you. You must've been sick about it. We told our neighbor last year, but he's extremely shy and I think he felt awkward about it. A couple of our friends finally stopped by, but they were so unfamiliar with gardening they weren't sure what was ready 😅

@@NowGardening I suspect that the are polite people that didn't want to cause any damage. Our neighbors wouldn't pick anything else. Have you considered planting Artichokes and Japanese Purple egg plants around the house instead of shrubs? Let one or two artichokes flower. Looks nice.
@NowGardening Жыл бұрын
@@ElainesDomain I've never thought of eggplants and artichokes as landscaping. Funny that you mentioned artichokes though. I absolutely love the way they look (the flowers are gorgeous!) Also, they love the hard clay soil here. My husband loves to eat them, so I've been trying to rope him in to helping me till a bed for them, but he hasn't taken the bait yet lol
