@rexnihilo5583 you are absolutely correct, except some don't work on original hardware. The creators usually mess up the music on older consoles which crashes the game, but some make it with the original hardware limitations not in mind. It's like how the N64 has the "Expansion Pak" but it was only required for two games, except most modders make use of it to the point where you can't really find a mod that doesn't use it, and it's a piece of extra hardware that almost no one had back when the N64 was popular.
