Did you find that replacing the clutch fixed that shaking issue? My wifes navi seems to be doing something similar, I uploaded a short to show what its doing, the whole front end shakes but nothing is loose.
@LifeOfBurch Жыл бұрын
@@CricketandBee I just watched your short and it’s dang near EXACTLY what mine was doing, and the new clutch did completely fix my issue! If you want to try a free remedy first though, try taking some rough grit sand paper and sanding the inside of the clutch bell housing to see if that helps at all. After replacing my clutch I realized that my stock bell housing was a bit glazed which was causing the clutch to slip right as it engaged, which caused the shaking. So roughing up the housing may help the clutch grab and solve your issue, otherwise swapping the clutch should do the trick! Good luck man, hopefully that helps!

This is not a cvt issue, sir. My suspicion is confirmed by two facts. First, you lose power as the engine warms up and second, you have trouble staring it up. The upgrade may arguably improve the performance, but the main issue is the Valve Clearance and the oil you use. Trust me!

I used to fly fuel powered RC helicopters and we had centrifugal clutches like that. The wear on the inside of the bell housing at 6:30 sure did not look uniform when you lifted it up for a second there. Could not tell if that was uneven wear or just reflections. If uneven wear, I bet that something was wrong with the bell housing. Seems like when clutch was engaging, it was skipping as it was engaging the tight spots then slipping off again instead of smoothly engaging till locking in. Good that you fixed it.

My Malossi racing clutch is tunable. I got rid of the dreaded clutch shudder with the new clutch and the Malossi bell. The Dr Pulley sliders instead of rollers were great too. After the install of the new clutch parts I never looked back, and that was 30000 miles ago. Yeh you read that right, I'm rolling on a Honda Reflex that just turned 55000 miles and the clutch parts were installed at 21000 miles. I was so tired of the stock Honda clutch shudder on take off. No worries about the Malossi parts, they have proven to be extremely durable with very little wear. I change my drive belt every spring time so I get to see the parts once a year. Roughly 10000 miles per year on the scooter traveling all over my state of Illinois and all the surrounding states. No problems so far with Malossi, good stuff!!
@mattalger23255 ай бұрын
Malossi is great! I have their Multivar in my Roughhouse. Immediately noticeable difference. And the white contra spring for better downshifting on hills and when backing out of then getting back into I the throttle. Although the more resistance of the white spring had me stay with stock roller weights (for now) because I'm a bit heavier at 240 pounds. CVT'S can also, actually should be tuned for rider weight. A new set of rollers can make a world of difference in acceleration and or too speed. Rollers are a consumable part that should probably be changed every 5000 miles because they wear a flat spot on the urethane bushing. I'm going to go with a stage six adjustable clutch for better takeoffs and for occasionally raising the front wheel, which btw can also be done for the Navi, or any bike with a CVT tranny. Adjustable clutch's are so much better than dicking around changing clutch springs. I can't wait to get a Yazuni pipe, this little two stroke smoker needs to breath, and the stick pipe sucks. A Yasuni pipe will wake this little 50 up in the 7000-8500 range, and sound more evil while doing it. 😂

I try to stick to 40-45mph roads tops on the Navi, especially since people are expecting to do 5-10 over most times.

Why would you want both of them on there? To me you only need the one and obviously you want to reduce weight not add it. Just something I’ve noticed and I’m not sure why everyone else is getting this step “wrong”. Love your videos!

You cannot run two clutch bells at once in a CVT. DEFINITELY do not listen to anyone suggesting that will work.
@thepab30722 жыл бұрын
The clutch/ variator is the first thing to change on the Navi, it's where you get the most gain. Quick acceleration and 56mph is probably what most people want anyway. Need more, intake, exhaust and jets (maybe a better carb)... After the only thing to do is a big bore if one ever shows up. The Navi would have been perfect if it was a 125cc EFI. If ever a 125 EFI conversion shows up I may go for it, it will help to make it more livable.

It's so weird because I have (or had) absolutely no interest in a Navi at all - not to own one, not to ride one and certainly not to watch videos about it.. but here we are, lmao, I'm watching your videos and loving it. It has made me at least _consider_ getting a Navi, or two Navis, rather: one for me and one for the wife when we move to an area more suitable for riding a slow bike. Definitely race Nina on the Navi. Only on the safe, secluded raceway. Supposedly it's not the clutch pads that get glazed it's the metal on the cover gets ultra polished. Freshening the clutch cover surface with the Emery cloth or 400 grit sandpaper helps acceleration.

Some CVT tips:. Grab some extra variator nuts when working on the CVT. Thay are deliberately made softer than the shaft they bolt onto. That's because that is the engine crankshaft and if you fuck up those threads the entire engine will need to be disassembled to repair it. So, that said, be careful how you tighten the Variator nut, especially with an impact. There is also a tool that locks into the teeth on the wheel that mounts up next to the variator to help hold it while tighten ing or loosening the variator nut. Clutch pad and the inside of the bell wil look slick and smooth when glazed over, sand them with 80-120 grit sandpaper to restore their respective grip to one another. If the clutch pads are broken, chipped or severely worn in an unbalanced way, replace the clutch immediately. It must be fairly balanced. If the assembly isn't balanced it can cause severe vibration issues. Also roller weights, clutch springs, contra and belts are consumable parts. Belts must be a certain width to engage the V groove in the front and rear pulleys correctly. Belts can affect acceleration, vibration and top speed, especially if they're worn, out of spec, and also when you change to aftermarket parts you may need a different belt depending on what you replace. What Burch was likely experiencing was clutch chatter or the belt slipping. Sometimes they are out of spec or wear funny causing them to failz feel and or act weird prematurely. Belts should last around 7-10 thousand miles in most two wheel CVT transmissionsl applications. Not sure about automotive CVT'S. Yes they use them in cars too. Anyway, when you add the heavier white contra spring, it will affect the way the rollers play together with the clutch, so when I added the white spring I decided to still use the stock roller weights, because I had to account for the stronger contra spring. The contra works together with the rollers to change "gears". You can buy different sets of roller weights to tune the CVT for your weight, and application. In other words you can tune the CVT gor balance, for takeoff or for too end. Keep in mind there are diminishing returns. Meaning if you go too light on the roller weights, it will not accelerate well and top speed will be abysmal. Too heavy andnit won't accelerate or downshift well, it's a balancing act that isnt hard to figure out. The key, especially with two strokes is to keep the engine revving in it's primary power band when its trying to take off or go up a hill. The contra spring essentially helps the transmission "downshift" when you say back out of the throttle to slow down, them need to accelerate again, but has rhe effect of not going down a gear ro oivk up soeed again. To wrak a contra spring is the manual transmission equivalent to staying in a higher gear when yiu shouldve downshifted. So instead of dropping the belt deeper into the rear pulley causing the engine to stay revving in the bike's engines power band. Clutches: Heavier clutch springs are basically like a stall converter in a car transmission. Meaning that the stronger the clutch springs, the higher rpm the engine must at to begin gripping or engaging the clutch pads into the inside rim of the clutch bell to start driving the wheel axle. Suoer heavy springs would essentially be like popping the clutch on a car or regular manual transmission. Not ideal for street use, unless your just wanting a wheelie bike build or drag racing. CVT'S aren't difficult and they are a must maintain and tune item for a vehicle that has one in my opinion. Scoots. ATV'S, Snowmobile. They work and are cheaper and easier than manual gearboxes. Yiu can also change final drive gear ratios as well. Also quality rubber really matters, especially for really small 12 inch rims. Dunlop, Pirelli, and Michelin are good places to start for 12 inch tires treads. Look for a deep rain groove.

The clutch didn't really improve performance, except for the juddering issue. (You might have been able to fix that by scuffing up the pads and/or bell housing with 80-grit black sandpaper.) The whole variator assembly didn't really improve your performance. Essentially all that makes the difference are those weights. Yup. The weights. I installed a set of 13g weights that cost about 30 bucks IIRC. That did it. Yeah, I'm cheap, but then again it's an $1800 bike. Cheap bike, cheap fixes! ;)

You got the ncy clutch with the red springs that are 2000 rpm. SO that takes 2000 rpm for the clutch to start spreading out to engage with the clutch drum. Should have got the one with blue springs instead which are 1000 rpm. Quicker engagement and take off speed. Also the malossi contra spring is a higher rpm spring than the stock contra spring, its better with stock contra. You can just buy the blue ncy springs and install in the clutch. Now you should also take off that horrible air box and just put on a simple cone or pod filter on the carb for even better response. Cheap and easy stuff. Of course exhaust is a given for a little more power and better sound.

Those clutch pads looked bad on the ends. Chipping away from not engaging correctly? I did a lot of CVT work when I had my Ruckus back in the day. Slightly heavier weights will give you a little more top end and once you get your weights dialed in the slider style weights will maximize how far your variator can open up. On starting and running issues, check your airbox to make sure it is sealing/closed up correctly. A leak into it will throw off your jetting. I eventually opened up my airbox with a 3x4 cut out and a rain shield and rejetted. That was my Ruckus days. Looking at the Navi and the price point, I'm thinking it's a beefed up Ruckus? Continued good luck in your Navi adventures!

Would have been nice if you would have taken the cover off and ran the old clutch so we could see what it was doing.

I originally wanted to, but they’re sold out everywhere! The cost wasn’t really worth it to me in the end anyway since my biggest concern was just fixing the thing, and any performance along the way was just a bonus.

I now want a Navi to drive around town for errands. Way better than stuffing everything in a backpack…most will fit in the fake engine compartment.
@LifeOfBurch2 жыл бұрын
Navi’s are literally PERFECT for that! The storage compartment holds way more than I expected. My girlfriend and I fit an entire Memorial Day picnic in it once- pack of hotdogs, pack of buns, ketchup, mustard, plates, forks, potato salad, 3 or 4 White Claws, and lemonade. Then we put charcoal and a lighter in a backpack and headed to a local park that had grills. Such a fun little bike!

The towel was enough!…this time anyway 😂 But trust me, this carpet was shot since the day I moved in. I’ve been trying to find an excuse to tear it up and do polished concrete for an industrial look 😎

Loading and unloading motor cycles scares the shi_ out of me, even with the correct equipment.
