My Pop was Chief Machinist’s mate on the USS Osterhaus DE164 during WW II in the Pacific. He was assigned to the boat when is was put into service and came off it at the end of the war. His name was Dewey Souers. I lost him several years back at the age of about 95. He was out driving and was broad sided by another vehicle and killed instantly. I miss him a lot. I was a Coasty in 1969 stationed at Government Island, Alameda, Ca. Thank you for your service much appreciate you everything you do. Take care, sir.

I would love to hear more navy stories. I did 6 years in the Oregon guard as a mechanic and wrecker operator, got out in 22. I was deployed to Africa when covid hit and everyone in my battalion saw the politics at play. I don't know a single person from that deployment that's still in. We all refused the vaccine and fought it and all the inclusivity every step of the way. 100% agree with you that it was a purge of free thinkers. Keep up the good fight

You’re right about not finding perfect to work. There are a few good workers out there but someone else is keeping them. I’m like you and I work for myself and by myself. Makes life much simpler. Speaking of things people say. I used to work for the cable company in Atlanta, Georgia and there was an Asian fella that was having issues and the first thing he said was “You make me so piss off!” I’ll never forget that. I wish they would quit worrying about everyone else and start taking care of us!!!! Thanks Warren!

You're spot on Warren. I did 637's for 7 years, and you could tell who was a Rickover child and who wasn't in the wardroom. Learned a lot helping the A-gangers when I was allowed, they were the crew who really knew the boat. SubScol was really good at f'ing people over with promotions, extensions and SRB's for re-enlistment...they screwed me out of mine in '89.

I spent over 23 years in the Marines I saw the same thing you did. They retired out all the old timers and put kids in there place that didn't know the head from a hole in the ground. But what got me was the way the ROE was changed from day to day.. I Love the Corp and always will but it has changed so much.

My son is active duty USMC right now and the policy that you mentioned has turned around and bit the Corp in the ass. New enlistments are down almost 40% and finding good people is next to impossible now. My son’s duty station is SanDiego and he’s got 10 years in and still loves it. He intends to do his 20 and retire. The only downside to his job is that they’re having to keep knuckleheads now because of recruitment being so low. You’ve got to be pretty darn stupid to get thrown out of the military these days.

Enjoyed your Navy stories. I was Nuc IC or E div with auto E-4 after A school...Following Nuc school and S1W prototype. Served six years total and was on an attack submarine. After the Navy then commercial nuclear power.

Had a snow storm come through a few weeks ago. The city street department called us over because one of the salt trucks the hoist wouldn’t raise. I verified the pto wasn’t engaging got under it to check the power and ground and thought hey probably should ask if the switch was on. They assured me it was, but I hopped into the cab and checked for myself. Well wouldn’t you know it the switch marked pto was off. Flipped it on and up went the bed. We all had a good laugh, it sure is nice to have an easy one come your way once in a while

What I say about your rant is Amen!! I do 31years in Army and was a commander when I was forced into disability. I was an old school soldier that didn't give a suit about logical correct. I did my job, cared for my soldiers, and country. I still do. But today I'm scared that we're about done as a country and freedom is history. I pray that it can be saved, but it doesn't look good for the generations to come. Kids can't even comprehend how good we had it 50 years ago! Much less enjoy the good lives we had as kids.
