My thoughts exactly. I've fixed a few things twice because I screwed up. What gets me mad is when I have to fix what I paid someone else to fix. I boycotted one tire shop because they did a wheel alignment for me and left the adjustment bolt loose on one corner. I discovered it when I went to do my weekly tire check and found that 2 tires were very worn with less than 1000 miles on them. They refused to take responsibility and wanted to charge me for another wheel alignment and 2 tires. They were out of business in less than a year after that and the building was bought by a company that specializes in truck tires.

I think it’s time for a fishing trip Warren, the worst feeling you can have as a mechanic is when you put time and effort into something, and know something didn’t go right. Standing behind it and fixing it just shows you care, that you have integrity and that your willing to be humble and eat some crow once in awhile. Heck, you show the world that. I’d like to know how many mechanics would actually do that! We are all learning from the mistake so thanks for sharing. Thank you also for being a stand up guy and a great mentor and role model for future generations of field mechanics. Lots appreciate your efforts sir!

My parents always took their cars to a friend/ mechanic who lived down the road from us instead of taking the car back to the dealers. Dad would say all the dealer wants to do is sell you parts and labor before figuring out and repairing problems first. Taking devices apart and fixing them is more respectable than just removing and replacing them. Thanks for the great content. Have a great week.

Hey Warren. Haven't been here in awhile, so I thought to stop in. Warranty work,....ugh. You really DO learn from your mistakes! (esp. when it is free, and you do it instead of earning on another job). PROPS to you for admitting your misgiving. I remember doing transmissions many yrs ago. I did both manual and automatics in the 80's. Mostly Fuller Roadranger 900 series for trucking, and Allison MT & HT series for off-highway. I really enjoyed the fullers,(You get to use a hammer a lot, 😁). And YES you do them horizontal. I hadda big table with an 1 1/2" maple top on it. One thing i learned early was to always replace the synchonizers (slip gears) on the fullers. They wear out easily when truckers don't clutch thru the gears and get high mileage,or heavy service. I don't know how I would have taken out the mainshaft with the trans in a vertical position. WOW. I took off the PTO plate and could "shimmy" it out to the back. Been running my own service truck since last June. One of the things that I always remember is your work ethic and your attitude of making things right with your costumers. You're right, you haven't done a lot of "return" work but, you're honest and you still fix what you already knew was wrong or a mistake you may have made. There just isn't that many people in this world today that admit to their mistake(s) or even warranty their own work and fix it. Just more reason why you're absolutely the very best on YT. I really appreciate your honesty and letting everyone know that stuff happens, even to the best of us. I went to Ohio Auto Diesel back in 94-95 to learn Diesel Repair. They had a pretty good program and we learned automatic and manual transmissions. The funny part was when I graduated, top of my class, it was really hard to find a job. Most shops wanted experience, but wouldn’t give you a shot. I was lucky and worked with some good guys that were willing to share knowledge. I moved from Diesel Mechanics to Commercial HVACR almost 25 years ago. I have taught apprentice classes for years. I am trying to make sure the apprentices learn as much as possible, without the information block. That’s a pretty shady frame extension, is the other side screwed up like that? Hopefully your foot’s healing up decent. Thanks Again for dragging us along for the adventure.

There is not a mechanic or shop out there I’d rather work for or learn under. Your well rounded mechanical expertise has what help me want to learn more in different directions. I like how you show the good, bad, and the ugly, show's you don't have an issue with pride. I would guess your work ethic has contributed to all the work you've got coming at you. Word of mouth travels fast, and if you do good work and stand by it, the people will come whether they like your brutal honesty or not. That's what i like about you Warren, there's no trying to guess how you feel about stuff, because you say it like it is, and your yes is yes, and your no is no. Haha. Did you know Komastu uses gray RTV on the inside of most coolant/radiator hoses? Im not sure any other brand does that but man it sucks.

I like to make 'dowels' for aligning by using long bolts (6" or more) of correct thread and with the heads cut off. Helps when setting heavy covers without moving the gasket.

I am retired but I would certainly love to be your shop helper. It is unbelievable you are able to get anything done. Who does your billing ,vehicle licensing ,takes care of all operational expenses ,shipping receiving ,parts ordering ,shop supplies list goes on and on. . I know you recruit the wife sometimes . I would help with all this because taking part in your mechanical adventures has to be better than watching on KZbin. You are the real deal and a decent person. I don’t understand why some young kid doesn’t latch on to you just for the opportunity and exposure. That is what I did at 13 and ended up working very well for me.

I remember resealing a pto pump on 15spd with the deep reduction and had to get going the next day, didnt see that all the gaskets stuck together were to shim it.. started it up and drove sounded like it was supercharged haha! Pulled it off and added them gaskets solved it

All that right there in the shop, plus a que waiting outside and hours of service calls every day, and Warren is still turning paying work away - amazing. I wish I could legally work in the US. I'd drop my high paying prison chair job in a heartbeat to go and work in the shop and service calls with Warren, even in Oregon type winters (I hate winter, but Oregon / N. Commi-fornia winter is nothing like Manitoba winter). I can't understand why there isn't a herd of good non-city boy apprentice candidates at Warren's door looking for work. Rewarding work that comes with a bonus 1st class free heavy equipment mechanic education.

I find that when people in this field try to hide knowledge from younger technicians, that the younger ones turns out to be better in the long run. Just a suggestion: people appreciate feedback. I understand turning down work. If it were me (and what I did before i retired) I would stay in contact with those you turned away. Conversation would be "Joe, I know I couldn't help you a few months back but I finally got caught up and can help if you need me". When things get slow, and they will, "Joe" will remember you had the decency to reach out to him and offer to help.

Trial an error not only teaches you how it should be done but just as importantly how not to do it. It frustrates me when people think they have to be trained or shown every step before they ever attempt any procedure. If I hadn’t learned by trial and research 90 percent of the work I have wouldn’t be possible. Knowledge of many different fields can become a curse at times. It’s difficult for employees to become proficient because they’re back and forth between so many different procedures, most people don’t possess the skills to retain all information. Keep up the great work Warren, look forward to every video.

Where you’re going on about why you work alone starting around the 27:00 mark had me laughing because I work at a dealership and it’s like that for me there. I’ll make 3 years as a tech soon and am getting training as well as experience but like you I want to be as well diversified as I can to work on whatever may call. I really enjoy your channel and appreciate your comments about things, viewpoints, etc and often laugh at things because I can relate😂. I’m about to go together with a 7.3L and watched your old video from one you did probably 5 years ago to get me going. One thing after another and I still don’t have it done. Machine shop messaged me Friday saying to go ahead and order pistons. Question: if KT performance has Mahle pistons that are .02” oversized and the machine shop bored the cylinders to that size; the bore would no longer be 4.110” in my math. They would be 4.130”, but they’re listed as 4.110” and 0.02” oversized with 0.01” reduced height. Is that a typo, or is there something to do i.e: order different pistons?

Not gonna lie I was gonna be an internet warrior and tell you you were putting that back box together wrong. Eaton will have you assemble the aux section and mate it to the main. But instead of running to the comment section to cry I waited and watched and I will say the way you put that together was really slick good work!

Shit happens good on ya to make it right. I just had a F up myself on an auxiliary back box. Afraid I didn’t tighten the nut for the yoke all the way. Hammered it up with my 1” till it stopped. Figured that would be enough. Turns out the nut never pressed up against the yoke and the back taper breading was able to be lose. Ended up breaking off the retaining bolt for high low gear and complaint was it lost high split. Fixed it up. Hammered the nut with the 1” again and checked closer. Still didn’t tough the yoke fully. Ended up putting the yoke in a press so it couldn’t turn and supported the trans with my crane then torqued it by hand with my 1” bar and snipe. Got probably 4 more turns on the nut. Never would have guess the nylock on the nut to have that much resistance .. have you ever seen that before?
