So refreshing to watch a goals video like this. I'm always so hesitant to watch goal videos because so many are so numbers focused and making six figures that it is discouraging. This is just inspiring

I love to crochet, but there’s only so many blankets I need. So instead I make scarves for Operation Gratitude, which sends care packages to veterans and deployed soldiers. There are also places that accept crocheted blankets for shelter animals and even birds nests. It’s nice because I get the fun of buying yarn and can make things while I watch instead instead of scrolling social media or playing an app game, someone else gets the benefit of the project and I don’t have clutter or a linen closet that’s going to explode with blankets. 😂 Congrats on the car! Sounds like it’s going to be a great thing for you and Ray to have while you’re here in the US. 🚗

I think in 2025, I’m going to stick with low-buy/no-buy months but also couple buy-it-now months (specifically April, August, and November) because I have (soon-to-be-3, baby coming in January) little kids and they’re always outgrowing things. So, the plan is to save up during the low-buy months, so I have adequate spending money for the buy-it-now months. I’m hoping that will quell the scarcity mindset I struggled with this year. And I’m going to just do a red light list and a green light list, and get rid of yellow light entirely. Because it’s just too much margin for error for me. So I’m aiming for “zero dollars spent” except specific capsule groceries and necessities.

scarcity mindset is a HUGE thing and something that I think will have it's hooks in most people for the longest time when it comes to "unlearning" things after a no buy or low buy year
@BreMue4 күн бұрын
Im trying to do this too! I find that if I start to shop for anything "oh I also need this" pops in. In addition with all black friday/prime deals it makes me wish I just saved enough to stock up for the year. I want to "buy because its on sale" because I am GOING to buy it full price or not later anyways, not buy because "ooh it's on sale!" I feel like if I save up and can make these bulk purchases, I still get the dopamine - i save money - but then I also spend the rest of my time USING WHAT I HAVE instead of looking for something I'm missing Here's hoping I'm on the right track with this school of thought 😅 wishing you luck as well!

This is a brilliant idea!!Because I struggle with scarcity mindset when I start no-buy strategies. And then I get stingy and controlling and judging. It’s not pretty. 😬🫣

My goal this year was to learn to drive. We have a car and can’t live without one. Yes they’re somewhat expensive but it improved our quality of life so it’s a non negotiable for us. We share 1 car as a couple.

Thank you for sharing this with us Grace (also screw the people who posted mean comments) I think your plan to learn and prep for your home stead is a great idea! Now my debts are coming to an end Im going to let myself live and save without the pressure of a challenge. Last year was about freeing ourselves from that and next year we get to carry that forward with good habits. Happy Christmas and New Year when it comes Grace. I have followed you for just over a year and really appreciate and enjoy your videos, with the reminder we’re all just trying our best out here ❤️

Your point is interesting about not making 2025 a hardcore year "about something". I think changing your mindset was what this year was about and you conquered that, so you can now, with a stable foundation, bring what you've learned into the next year. I think a lot of low buy has to do with unwinding our brains from thinking a certain way, and I like how you're moving forward with conscientious thinking! Im also learning a language and I DO highly recommend Pimsleur. TY for being your authentic self, as usual :)

Ahhh I made it a goal for this year to learn more homesteading practices this year! I learned how to make sourdough in august after watching some KZbin videos and using Farmhouse on Boone’s easy sourdough recipe (which is now my weekly loaf recipe). I had issues getting it started and ended up making a “stiff starter” that has a 2:1 ratio of flour and water instead of the regular 1:1 ratio. That’s what finally allowed me to generate yeast and pass the float test. There’s tons of trouble shooting videos on KZbin around it also! I also learned how to make fridge pickles and pickled jalapeños and some jams, pies, and other doughs. My mom also brought me my great grandmas recipe box and I’ve been slowly working through making her recipes and writing on Substack about it ❤️ I’m an avid crocheter but I wanna finally learn to knit next year and expand some other slow activities. Yay for granny eras!

Highly recommend learning lacto fermenting as a form of preservation before canning. Its got loads of benefits. Stanford just did a study on the benefits of fermented foods. But when your ready to learn preservation it's a often forgotten one.

Pickling and conserving pretty much anything in a jar is actually really easy - the only important thing is having clean jars, cleaning or cooking whatever you put inside really well and then boiling the jar. The first two steps are pretty much just easy cooking and for the boiling part, I strongly recommend getting one of the electric preserving boilers, its just a huge pot that you plug in, put in the jars, pour in water and set the temperature and time - just look them up for each category like jam, pumpkin puree, pickles ets. Sencor has good and cheap ones.

I feel you about not having a specific, burnout-inducing project. I want switch my low-buy from a bunch of rules to allowing myself to bring in up to X unnecessary items and spend up to $X doing so. I’ll do the math at the end of the year to figure out what those numbers looked like in 2024 so I can decide what’s reasonable for 2025.

If you're wanting sewing classes, try your local library. I know it sounds strange, because libraries are associated with books, but most public libraries offer events and programs to teach skills like sewing, cooking, repairing, etc, often at no cost to you.

For several years I crocheted small blankets for the Linus Project. They give the blankets to terminally ill children who are in a hospital or at home. This organization is nation wide and drop off places are listed in every state. These can be made really quickly while watching tv or KZbin because they are small.

I don't think polyglot is something you can become, but rather it means a person who is naturally increbly quick to learn new languages and can fluently speak more than 2 languagea. Multilingual on the other hand can refer to anyone that can speak more than 1 language at varying levels. I could be mistaken though

As someone who went from a no-car life to a two-person household with two cars, it feels a little ridiculous (especially since we have one of them basically just for hobby/fun... it's a convertible from the nineties that we work on ourselves) but oh my, it's SO convenient! How is parking where you live? Also, lovely video :)

So, I want to start this by saying this is just constructive criticism. Nothing against you at all. I've been binge watching your videos and am planning on doing at least a low buy year in 2025. I was watching a video of yours the other day where you said to not buy things even if it was 50% off or whatever, because in the long run, you really aren't saving money. There was another video where something had my senses tingling, but I can't remember what exactly it was. But this sponsorship, at least from the view point of practicing what you preach, seems a little disingenuous. I 100% get the grind, and if you want to be a youtuber, sponsors are the way to go. I do think that you could potentially look for more relevant sponsors at the end of the day though. I would assume, much like myself, most of your audience struggles with spending and putting a less than relevant sponsor in a video about being financially responsible is.. idk, it just hits the wrong note for me. Again, just food for thought. I'm actually going to subscribe now just because I have been watching a lot of you.
@gracenevitt4 күн бұрын
I totally understand where you're coming from, and wish I didn't have to take sponsorships to make a living on youtube, but alas! 😭 I also just wanted to point out that this video is not about being financially responsible, it's just about my goals. and one of them just happens to be to learn a language. in general, I genuinely try to pick sponsors that I believe can add value to someone's life IF they decide to spend money on it. and the whole point of my no buy year was to be intentional about my money. obviously, you save 100% of the money you don't spend, but I also said at the beginning of the sponsored section that I'm not telling anyone to spend money because that's NEVER been my message and never will be. just offering a discount for other people that also have trouble self-studying languages🥰
@leonie2454 күн бұрын
I think you're referring to a video where Grace said to not buy stuff on sale just because it's on sale. But she also stated in many videos that she is searching for deals if she decided to buy something anyways. For example you see a pair of joggers you really like on sale but already have 5 at home then it's smart to think hard about the purchase and decide if it's necessary instead of falling for the "it's 50% off so I'm saving money" narrative. On the other hand if your only pair of running shoes broke and you need new ones because running is something you do often then it's definitely smart to look out for discounts on the shoes you decide to buy. That's how I understood Grace's message in those videos :)

I saw your no buy video for the first time in January of this year and I told myself I could possibly start because it was already January 🙄 and now in November me and my three friends agreed to do a no buy 2025!! Moral of the story thank you!!🫶🏻
