I am speechless when I see this 635 series today. It was actually a solid lump of rust. Now it has been completely renovated and powder coated, which means that it will not have any rust for the next hundred years, I believe. It comes with another coat of paint plus rust protection which makes it so well protected. I am 100% sure that this will be like a brand new 635csi. This has been an exciting journey to follow. I can't wait for it to be completely finished. I can only imagine.

The end result of that body is clearly amazing. You've reinvigorated my desire to own an E24! I'm not convinced on the powder coating though. I know it's a very hardy coating, but on trailers and coated steel frames I've owned, I've seen rust spread under the coating once it gets a crack in it. I could be wrong and the coatings I've encountered may just be poorly prepped and low quality. Hopefully that undercoat you applied first solves that problem. But for me, it would be either a zinc rich or 2K primer and a tough underbody coating.
@petermcneill8011 ай бұрын
Iv seen similar power coating failures, seems to be a very wear resistant coating but as soon as it gets a chip water ingress can be a serious problem. Never seen a full car done before that’s quite an interesting concept certainly looks very nice atm be interesting to see how it lasts
@paulmanta11 ай бұрын
I hate powder coating, its great for a while and then the rust happens under it and is cracks and falls off where the rust is. Thermal Metal spray is the best way, Retro power do it and it becomes a part of the metal due to the way its deposited so you don't get anything between the coating and the steel. Hopefully this will be durable and look as good as it does now in a few years time.

Thanks for the video. To all the guys at YCR you have done a fantastic job on Mat Armstrong's E24. Of course there are the guys who made the roll cage and everyone at the powdercoat shop. This is one big collaboration. I wish you had done a white board from the beginning that showed everything you have done on the car and what it would have cost. Mat has done this on various cars to show that he made the right choice buying a wrecked car. I know other people have commented that they would like to know what it costs to do each part of the restorations that you do. The other part would be what the outsourcing costs add up to in this build ie. the roll cage and the powdercoating. Maybe you could do a final video where you did a breakdown of the basic costs of doing a restoration like this E24. This has been a great year watching your channel. Thank you for YCR in 2023, and I can't wait to see what is in store for 2024! Thanks guys!

I’m really pleased you spoke at the end to discuss seam sealer etc as I was confused about the whole powder coating of the shell. Powder coating is all well and good but it can become quite brittle and when exposed (a chip or fracture for example) will blister and flake once it’s compromised. I liked that you will then seam seal it properly. Will you be applying a factory rubber compound seen on most modern shells to the underbody too beyond just the seams? You’ve done an amazing job on this and imagine if it sees little use the powder will look amazing and last. If it were to be back on the road properly, then I’d want to go that extra mile to add some modern stone guard rubber compound in as many places as possible. No hate here just wanting to know more. Looking forward to see more.
@syncrosimon11 ай бұрын
My thoughts exactly, powder coating is an unconventional way of treat the shell. Getting it phosphate dipped and painted would be more traditional. Powder coat is tricky to repair in the future especially on the panels. maybe it will be wrapped also.
