I feel the same way about the Tamora Pierce books, but I started with the Wild Magic series, I've been chasing that feeling ever since I read them as a child lol

I believe I read those right after Alanna! My sister liked Wild Magic quite a bit 🥰

Absolutely same boat!! I dressed up as Daine for Halloween and but a white blaze on my all black pony’s face (based on the orange 1997 Random House cover for Wild Magic) 😂 Tamora is so talented at writing for young readers with such heart, craft, and care. Such a high bar and what a high to chase, one of the only series that scratched that itch was the Seven Realms quartet by CW Chima.

I just reread the Alanna series last year and it totally holds up! It's just as awesome as you remember, I promise. And if you haven't read the other series by her, Keladry and Daine, you should. They are also soo incredibly good.

In Sweden summer is the most beautiful ever. Green lush nature. Lots of lakes and the ocean to hang around. Beuatiful twilligt at night because sun never fully sets. Even though we get some periods of warmer weather we were not used to until global warming taking its grip over the course of the last 5-6 years. But its still not that hot. 23-25 celcius in Stockholm is the norm. Gets like 28-29 celcius during a few days some periods and thats not nice but still not as bad as in other countries

I love that you mentioned the Lioness quartet! I started rereading them and so far, the first one at least really holds up! I miss this type of feminist fantasy before girlbossing became the norm lol. Those are fun and all but I love how Alanna feels like a real girl instead of a super hero.
@friendowldesign15021 күн бұрын
I just reread the Alanna series and ELLE oh my gosh it still holds up!! I was worried too, but I found a new and different appreciation for the stories and getting to experience Pierce’s writing as an adult. I’m going to have a more in depth review later, but seeing an “older” writing style REALLY stands out juxtaposed to what we tend to see now. Shyer Daine from the Immortals Quartet was more relatable as a kid, and bolder, honest, and fierce Alanna was like a second chance to know an old friend. Enjoying the reread aside, just reading it for a master study of how efficiently Pierce writes her stories is something worth diving into. She really did set a high bar, and I’m reading a couple of series that I started as a kid and then they got lost to the time war that is college. Finally going to finish Beka Cooper! I want to read every Tortall (and maybe the others 👀?) book she wrote!!

I'm halfway through The Spellshop and I agree completely. I lost both of my parents within 2 1/2 years and the book captures the bittersweet feelings of thinking about them. Also my grandpa used to grow boysenberries and my grandma made jam out of them, so when she tastes her berry jam and says it tastes like memories, that line hit me right in the heart.

I’m reading The Crimson Crown right now and it really captures autumn (apples, chilly woods, rainy weather). We get such a sad blip of autumn in NC. Summer lasts forever here. I’m from NY so I remember and miss amazing autumns. Luckily, spring is always my number one season and we have a beautiful one here.

Agree with you about summer. It's hot/humid, to the point where we often get warnings to stay inside, so there's no "enjoying" the sunshine anyway. All the Snowbirds come back from their homes in the south, so the town is INSANELY more hectic and annoying to live in. Rainy season hits, and everything just feels more calm. People leave again, I can wear nice sweaters/coats and dig out the cozy blankets. Hot chocolate and tea for cold mornings. ☺️😌 I have several used book stores with cats to visit and find old authors people have forgotten about. Best season. I got The Spellshop after your recommendation. Sounds like a lovely read for this time of year, I'm excited for it.
