Thank God I have a full displacement 44 DeFever trawler with stabilizers and a walk in engine room. Everything is mechanical with non turbo engines. Yes I'm slow but I get there. I don't envy that job you're doing. Every boat yard we pass has boats out with pods being worked on them and don't even think of bumping the bottom!

Although the pods may be fantastic for docking and maneuvering, looking at everything you have gone through with replacing it, let alone the cost, I'll stick with a straight inboard. Great work guys!

Great job getting the POD in. The video footage of the shipyard brings back memories. Some of those boats there have been there awhile. I guess cheaper than dockage. We are currently in Grand Haven Michigan. I’ve never seen more boats than I have here nonstop all day cruising by.

Shafts all the way. IPS's are just a modern version of a stern drive. If you want movability get a Twin Disc EJS joystick, that system is unbelievable. Someone once said, 'You have to be wary of a manufacture that puts its gearbox in salt water'.

Have you ever replaced a missing pod? If the boat runs aground and the pod gets knocked off is there safety systems to keep the boat from sinking. I’ve heard they have hydro doors that can be shut in the event of one getting knocked off.

Yes they do shear off and there is a shut off valve on the wet exhaust. But usually when they break off they damage the hull

I wonder if the extra cost of maintenance of pods outweighs the efficiency of pods over straight drives? Also, regarding the 0% chance of rain - those of us who ride motorcycles can tell you that in the summer with a 0% prediction of rain and no clouds in the sky, we can drive through drenching rain that comes from absolutely nowhere. after seeing this, will be shafts only for me, the costs would be astronomical, and if you hit something at speed, what then blup blup into davie jones locker, with shafts busted prop, bent shaft, maybe not sink, but if you rip off a pod or 2 your done for the day
@WillFixThat

Martin you can hit your rudder and be done for the day and sink! We had a boat nearly sink but it made a run for it to get to the slings he was on our schedule that day to get bottom job etc. on his way over to the yard he hit something. Boat was filling with water fast.
