nobody has. and noboy said leopard is indestructible. experience from the battlefields suggest though that it outperforms all other players - it kills more hostile targets before it gets disabled than the opposition, and does so at and longer distances. And when it is hit, the crew ususally survives - and often the tank can be repaired. That is what it is about. Nobody but maybe yourself - would assume its indestructible, and nobody would ever make such a statement. --- The armies of the world that buy these things have seasoned military commanders evaluating the machine. That means, people who know more about that shit than you or me. Sales number speak for themselves...

I was a Leopart "transporter" (1976) in the army and was told the life-time where around *20* minutes in a warzone but in the 70s their where mines, other tanks, artillerie and airplanes but *NO* drones. Now in the drone era you can have a *very big* number of drones for the price of a single tanks. My guess is that drones may be much more effective and also cost effective than a tank (my 2 cents)

1) It's modular spaced armor, very little deflection potential. 2) Modern APFSDS rounds mostly don't care about the slope unless it's very acute.

no, because modern ammo is very different from the ww2 ammo you have in mind. (WOT ?) modern ammo will not survive a ricochet and then be able to penetrate - it dissolves on contact into some superhot sludge. So there is no danger from ricohets these days. Also, the angled front is not ment to deflect them (only deflects small arms fire) those are mainly large sometimes empty chambers to take the juice out of finstab-sabots type ammo - basically chamber need to be longer than the dart is long, and thats your protection.

Think of the wedge shape as "armor over the armor". It's meant to be penetrated. If the projectile is a HEAT munition, the explosion will dissipate in the empty space between actual tank armor and the wedge shape. If it's an APFSD (looks like a dart or an arrow), it will penetrate the wedge shape and because of the angle between dart and wedge shape, it will start to wobble just enough that all the energy focussed on the tip becomes unfocused, thus the actual armor wont be penetrated. At least that's the theory behind why the Leo2A5 and above have those shapes.

There is good technology and production-ready technology. The Leo 2A7+ is a working and proven technology so production ready. Around the Panther K-51, more modern technology rivals the next-generation platform. Even when more capable, this is not yet production-ready or proven. Even when delivered for the Leo 2A7+ now or then the 2A8 (2024/2025) some parts need to be reworked when the environment demands it (or the technology is not as proven as thought). Fight control intelligence is sensor and computing/KI technology this is not yet Leo2A7+ but will be the most changing technology later. When seeing the bugs in a shipping F35 (hardware and software) we know that no such complex product will not be free of flaws when used under combat scenarios.

Not entirely correct. What matters is how you use them in conjunction with other units! And the Ukrainian military cannot do that because they lack the equipment! The Russians should actually be able to do better (because they have everything they need), but they are failing miserably! Seen this way, the Ukrainians are no longer making the same mistakes as they did at the beginning of their own counteroffensive, which was doomed to failure!

Almost 2 years into the war, Russia has finally learned a thing or two. That being said, they are only means to protect the hatches of those old Russian tanks. What they don't protect are the fuel tanks on the back side of those tanks. And a tank without fuel is just an overdimensioned door stopper.

With the huge minefields russia uses, it is probably better to invest more in helicopters, also troup transporting helicopters. Mabye hovercrafts could be usefull, it depends on what could be developed. For light vehicles (600-1000kg) the hovercraft does not trigger any landmines. Question is, where is the limit and what could be build this way. And of course more drones and anti drone vehicles. For me personally, I don't see any need for heavy tanks anymore at all. Infantry has weapons to destroy heavy tanks anyway. A light tank protects against any other weapons very well. And anti tank weapons destroy everything anyway. The heavy tank has reach benefits, but if you have lots of strong drones, you probably won't need the tank canon that oftenly anymore. I think smaller tanks are also good enough to destroy targets in cover of buildings, there is modern ammunition for this type of battle. For me it makes no sense to use heavy tanks anymore. They get destroyed by drones and mines and all the leopard 2 tanks in the ucraine got destroyed or get used out of battle, because the ucrainian people can't repair them. I think we should build helicopters with additional jet engines so the helicopters could fly in two different modes. If they are made of good quality, they could use their jet to shortly boost their speed for surprise attacks, evasion and fleeing out of combat. But before you could use it, you need lots of drones which are able to destroy anti air weaponary.

I can't say the Leopard 2A5 was the "Best tank in the world" back in 1998 as I dont recall any Leopard tank being combat proven prior to that. The only ones I can say that were battle tested and battle proven was the M1A1. The fact that the M1A1's and newer and the Challenger 2 tanks are battle tested and neither have been destroyed by tank fire gives them top billing over any Leopard tanks who have not seen battle yet.
