In 2023 Germany together with Spain, Italy and Sweden announced to be working on the successor for the Leopard 2, seperatally from the MGCS. It remains unclear if the MGCS program is still ongoing and I actually highly doubt it. Also none of the tanks shown at the expo are currently undergoing a procurement program so these are very unlikely to be the actual replacements...

LOL @ this really poor effort of propaganda. Every one of our tanks, in the west, have been exposed as utterly useless on today's battlefield. They were all claimed to be the "best" by the USA and NATO. LOL, the remains of which, can be found scattered all across the Ukrainian battlefield in pieces, or others being displayed in Moscow to the world, for the outright rubbish they all were. But these new, modern tanks will be better? Hahaha like everything else, then? But read the uneducated comments from all those, who really believe they're in the know? Hello red effect, I was at Eurosatory and got to speak with ppl at KNDS, I won't list everything here but just one thing about the new Leclerc, I genuinely think it's the most impressive bc unlike what you said at the end "all of these are tech demonstrators" that's the case for all the tanks yes, but the Leclerc evo isn't, it's been told to me that this is ready to go and the whole point of it was to make a tank with all CURRENT available technology plus the new gun, and therefore that's what you have, and it's genuinely ready for production. Whereas the Leo ARC is kinda unproven concept area and they're more so trying to do what rheinmetal is also doing altho yeah it's still in a good development phase, and well the embt is just not feasible for now and as you rightly said it's for 2040

But honestly it is a novelty that I don't think any customer would like to pay for, since it is an added complexity without any quick hard benefits like more armour, more penetration, or more speed do.

The KF-51U and A-RC 3.0 are the coolest IMHO. I personally like the missile launcher on the A-RC, and I like the aesthetics of it. The same goes for the KF-51U, but the fact that it has Iron Fist, StrikeShield, MUSS 2.0, _and_ a self-contained anti-drone CIWS makes it the cream of the crop for protection. It should be noted that the RMG 7.62 it uses is not a rotary machine gun, but rather has three single barrels which can be rotated in as one heats up. It only ever uses one at any given time, but the fact that it has three allows it to have a much higher single-barrel ROF than other machine guns.Combined with the radar and the other electronics in that RCWS, it can operate completely independent of the crew, detecting and engaging targets all on its own.

With the Ascalon 120/140, I think the Rheinmetall 130mm gun is dead on arrival. It offers 50% greater armor penetration over NATO standard 120mm, and nothing else. Meanwhile, countries with loads of money to spend will pick the 140mm gun with 70% improved penetration, and countries without money will pick the Ascalon 120mm gun that offers 40% improved penetration with new ammunition, lets them use up current stockpiles of 120mm ammo, and can be cheaply upgraded to the 140mm version later by simply swapping barrels and buying/making new ammo. I also think Poland has the right idea, ditching their mix of PT-91, Abrams, and Leopard 2 tanks (sending them all to Ukraine) in exchange for adopting an improved version of the K2 Black Panther tank with a lengthened hull (allowing them to use a more powerful engine and/or adopt an IFV version that allows them to carry half an infantry squad like the Merkava or the prototype T-84 IFV), plus the new Ascalon gun. An APS seems essential, adoption of the Ukrainian Nizh ERA is logical (more effective than conventional ERA and reduces the surface area of the armor each ERA panel protects, meaning multiple impacts have reduced effect), and the 30mm anti-drone turret and system is very logical. Imagine the K2 Black Panther, but some units having the super powerful 140mm gun, APS, and anti-drone system, and others with the 120mm gun to use up current ammo stockpiles and transporting infantry to support said tanks.

@@ghostpost. Modern APFSDS doesn't ricochet, when the dart doesn't go through it simply shatters. It's not WW2 anymore. And if the Russo-Ukrainian war shows one thing, than that such complains don't matter, because as soon as an explosive is dropped on the tank it's a mission kill either way, because things like the optics etc. get damaged. And you cannot armor these elements enough to be invincible, so don't bother at all. The T-14, Leopard 2 ARC 3.0 and EMBT ADT-140 are doing it right.

US Military budget: 800 billion dollars. No new tank or IFV in 44 years. Seriously, wtf? The upgrades to the Abrams aren't even big after the 120mm upgrade in 1985. No new gun or armor, just like newer sights and some ERA for the side skirts. Meanwhile, the Leopard 2 is on like its 9th version and has seen major updates. All these new additions are going to send the price of the tanks sky-high. They are getting no lighter either. Ammo is not compatible with standards of other types of ammunition thereby making ammo itself more expensive. Lack of turret protection isn't a huge problem IMO. With new 152mm gun and ammo not being far from entering service in Russia, no sane amount of armor will be able to stop the projectile without significant damage to the hull from either HE-FRAG round or even kinetic energy penetrator. In fact the latter will cause a huge amount of shock to the tank and possibly jam the turret in place from sheer energy transfer.

One single gun for defending against drones is not enough. The enemy is just going to send 3-4 drones at the same time for a cost of maybe 50-75k (including explosives). We are soon going to see automated systems doing exactly that. Directing low numbered drone swarms to important targets until the very last second from different heights and directions. You just need a couple of drones overseeing the whole battlefield, sharing their information in realtime and the operator is going to select a target. Okay the recessed equipment is a thing now. I assumed the Chinese just didn't know what they were doing. Now I'm guessing that something happened and designers are no longer worried about shell traps.
I'm a little surprised to hear what you're saying about turret protection for unmanned turrets. I'd say that it's pretty much a given that, if there's no crew somewhere, protection is going to drop off. To keep it simple, if there's also no ammo in the turret, there is very, very little reason to put much more than frag shielding there. Maybe you could up that to protection from autocannon APFSDS, but no more than that. You might say, "oh, but what about the gun!?", but I think it's fair to say that the gun is, no matter what you do, highly vulnerable. While I guess the breech is closer to the overall middle of the vehicle so, probability wise, it may be more likely to get hit than the barrel - the barrel is still something that can easily be taken out. If they can slap all available protection weight over crew areas, they're going to do so

so you need to rotate the entire turret to use the fancy 30mm airburst thing against drones, that are very often used from behind I hope that thing has a REAL FAST traverse

incredibly chonky turrets. Wondering what are their weights

Yeah, weight...... weight is the little detail left out from ALL those tanks presentations. Which means it's absolutely in the "ISSUE" range

Less than current turrets because they will have much less armor because they don’t need to protect crew. The chunkyness also comes from rubber and simply empty air space between metal armor walls. So they are not as heavy as they look like.

I think that future of visibility might be something like Apple vision, where commander would be able to use cameras and see through googles to navigate inside the tank as well as outside, adapting his vision for various sights mounted on the tank, giving him 360° field of vision and acces to thermals and zoom using commander sights with machine gun mounted with it.

Apple Vision? You mean like the F-35 helmet?

@prvt.harumi68214 ай бұрын
@blaze1148 you realize a shity fpv drone with an rpg straped to it isn't always a guaranteed kill? And stop acting as if they had thousands to swarm anything on the fields. 30mm airburst is made to take out way bigger drones at more range in one shot than the stuff used in Ukraine. 1 singular shot. Gives something like Kpfpz70 had 2000 round for a 20mm I'd say these have at least 600-800 rounds of 30mm even with 4 shot kills (which they shouldn't need because of baliszic computers) that would be anywhere from 150 to 200 dead drones by tank. Stop acting like drones are wonderweapons , not a single mbt right now has drone radars with ballistic computers for a 30mm with airburst

@@blaze1148 the more drones there are, the cheaper & thus smaller they have to be to balance out the cost; and cheap FPV drones can, and already are vulnerable to electronic warfare - enemy jamming

@@prvt.harumi6821 you don't get it at all. This is a future tank for future wars. Do you think drones in the future are gonna be the same old drones we currently have which are still in their infancy?
@prvt.harumi68213 ай бұрын
@P3RF3CTD3ATH of course. Terrorists still use Stg44s and mosins , in Ukraine people use cheap shitty fpvs over super expensive drones. And drones have ben used since the 70s , that's 50 years. They aren't in their infancy at all

The biggest issue with these new tank designs is literally, what are they going to fight against? Unless there is an appropriate threat that makes current 1980's platform based tanks obsolete then it is a hard to justify the massive per unit spend compared to getting many more lighter vehicles. Especially with the new tanks still being (or close to being) just as venerable to mines and artillery as current models. Current western MBTs can fling a 120mm shell (AP or HE) through any active battlefield opposition within 3,000m and will shrug off almost any return direct fire. How much more does a better tank bring to the battlefield?
