Fantastic you got the Frame and Fork chromed, I raced and was brought up with BMX in the late 70's and early 80's in Scotland. What you have there is what GT stood for back in the day, best wishes to Gary and Craig. They know how to make it work. Cheers QQ. (Subscribed)

Hi again, I have just been back on Craig and Gary's GT1972 website, can I ask why you chose the 26" over the 29" - I note the 29" has a 1" threaded fork only and the 26/24" has 1 1/8". I may be looking to build one of those next year, but as am in Scotland I cant really just see the bikes built up in the flesh (re: size for riding), hence my question. Cheers QQ.

@qtronicqilt8898 I had a 29” bike once and personally did not like how big they are. The 26” feels more like the BMX bikes of my youth. I actually would have gone with the 24”, but I don’t think that was an option at the time I ordered. Also, if you don’t see what you want on his site, email them. Craig and his wife are very responsive! Thanks for subscribing! I’ll be updating a few parts after Christmas!

@@apexbmx5852 Thank you for the reply, I get you on the 29" (on size) also I think the 24" would be too small. I hope you and the family are all good and I look forward to the updated parts after Christmas, take care, QQ.

For the seatpost- Plumber’s grit cloth, comes in strips. If you know how to dress a copper pipe for soldering properly, that technique can help you strip down the chrome in a perfect ‘line’ when you figure out your desired height, mark with a sharpie and dress the post 1 mm from the line, when done it should slide in JUST enough to cover up the scuffed area while inserted. ALWAYS use grease on the scuffed part to prevent seizing into the frame as well as any oxidization/rust from settling in or spreading. White lithium grease works fine

I like the blue and gold. I had about a 82 gt 20 inch. Put some blue grips on there. Good looking bike.

It is similar, but needs the uni seat, or at least that is what we ran, with the decals it will be awesome, nice bike.

Definitely brings back memories, totally forgot about the uni seat, I remember I had a Hutch Trick Star, it was stolen November 1987, daddy pulled in the driveway, it was the day after Valentines, February 15, 1988, he had my GT in the back, that was the greatest feeling ever.

I love me some blue but there is just something about a chrome GT that completes a GT bike. The chrome GT frames and forks were really done well back in the day and the guys who did this frame did just as well if not better. Love the blue and gold accents on the parts. I also like the gold nipples on the rims. Check out the Billet BMX round pedals in chrome. That thing would look absolutely sick on this bike! I like the taller bars myself, just cause I like to have my bars higher when I ride. The only thing Iʻm on the fence about is your seat. Overall though, this is such a nice build. Nice call on getting this chromed!

100% on the seat! I have to figure out how I can take advantage of the chrome seatpost without damaging the frame. I might just order another chrome seat post that might not have such a thick chrome finish. I much prefer the more padded railed seats!

Beautiful build!! I'm gonna see if they'll make my son a 18" GT frame for my 8yo son, he's a natural at bmx, i guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I'm 48, still ride bmx, & made a career of "riding kids bikes ", now i test prototype ebikes.

That’s awesome! My daughter had an interest for awhile, not as much now. I sure enjoy building them up though. One day I’d love to own a BMX shop, just not sure if it would do well. Our skate park here in apex doesn’t allow bikes! All the kids ride mountain bikes, some I’m not sure even know what a BMX bike is.

The chrome turned out beautiful 🤩 It’s a shame that the seat post didn’t work out. Hopefully you find a solution. I have that same railed seat on my 26” (but in white) and it’s indeed pretty comfortable. But dang, overall that’s one sweet build. Stoked for you!!!

Thanks bud. I've been going back and forth between the blue and chrome. I have a 29" Gary Turner legend on order and I have gold components but no blue components. I will see how it ends up. Either way should be sweet! @@apexbmx5852
