Just had our first harvest of these palora DF. I started from seed nearly 2 yrs ago. By far tge sweetest DF we’ve ever eaten. Like sugar. Literally. Gave some to some friends and they also were blown away by the taste. Especially when it was grown in our backyard.

I live in northern Minnesota (yes it's cold) and bought an Ecuador Palora dragon fruit from my grocery store ($6.99 each) this past weekend. I was surprised they had any. I have never had a yellow dragon fruit, but have had white, pink and red flesh before, but they were not very sweet. I was amazed at how VERY sweet this yellow fruit (white flesh) was! I saved the seed and hope to grow another dragon fruit plant. In this yellow fruit, it had seeds similar to what you found in both your yellow ones, but much fewer red seeds - mostly black.

Hello. I had mostly black seeds that I got from the store bought fruit as well. Here is the video on the seeds that I collected from the fruit which were eventually planted: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYjVq6aIltSGkLc Best wishes on your Ecuador/Palora seeds (soon to be seedlings). @@sackboymahalo Thank you for pointing me to this other video of yours. I have only grown one dragon fruit plant before and it grew in my basement (under grow lamps) until it was almost 2 feet long, in a very short amount of time. I have a lot of exotic tropical and desert plants I grow (I used to live in Redlands, CA. Loved it there). But I was surprised at how quickly the dragon plant grew! I hope this one I bought from the store is an heirloom variety, as I would love to get the same fruit as the mother plant.

I also here in Florida started unknown yellow varietie from seed. It has grown up post and brranched out. It is in the ground onba raised bed. It's about year old. Full sun all-day. No diseases or pests. I've given blooming fertilizer already. Any thoughts on whether it is self fertile, should I hand pollinate just to try? How deep would you estimate the roots are? By the way are u originally from Hawaii? I spent years on big island.
@sackboymahalo
@sackboymahalo 10 ай бұрын
Aloooha. I've lived in Oahu kaneohe for 3 years. If the seed you planted came from a fruit that has thorns on the skin then they are self fertile. If the seed came from a fruit that has no thorns then it will need cross pollination, and there is a big chance that it will not bear a yellow fruit. Mahalo for your comment and mahalo for watching. 👍😊👍 Cheers

Hello. I use osmocote 14-14-14 slow release (1 tablespoon per plant per month) and chicken or steer manure compost (2 trowel size scoops per plant per month) as my main "fertilizers". I alternate the use of the steer manure compost and chicken manure compost every month. The manure compost contains gibberellic that helps in flower production. If you plan to use just one type of manure compost I suggest using the chicken manure compost. I water twice a week as compared to the red and white varieties which I only water once a week. I hope this helps. Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching. 👍😊👍 Cheers

Here is a link to a video that shows the soil mixture that I use: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXPVn4Wgrbeep7c The description below the video also talks about the ratio of the soil components.
