That is a nice set. Your locomotive used the same casting as the pre-war 2046 and its O gauge twin, 646, Hudson steam locomotives. Other MPC-era steam engines used the 665 and the 685/2055 post-war castings, along with the 671 casting for the turbine reissue. That is a good looking locomotive and a set of modern, streamlined cars, would be perfect behind it. I've run my FARR Santa Fe 8900, which used the 2055 casting, with my full-sized AMT streamlined cars and it looks pretty good. Keep up the great videos.

Good to see people enjoying M.P.C trains if it wasn't for M.P.C there would be no Lionel today.Got a Marx Big Rail set for Christmas of 1973 and Lionel The Black River Freight for Christmas of 1976 miss both of them,had alot of fun back then.Those beauties weren't cheap back then.😊😅

Amazing train! I have the exact one. My dad bought this train for me in 1980, I was still brewing in my moms belly lol. As a kid I would run the train at Christmas, but my dad saw how rough I was on it and said that's it! He put the train in their original boxes in the early 90's and it wasn't until 2009 that it got resurrected. My dad said I was finally old enough to have it (I was 30). I've been running it every Christmas, around the tree since then. Absolutely beautiful set!

Great story Corey. My Dad got my brothers and the Chicago & Alton back in ‘81 and it’s still running great today. Love MPC. My Dad got us the Alton b/c of the three it was the only on with a 6-wheel metal tender.

Hey Corey, Nice to see them both running together.along with the story. I too,longed to own a southern crescent after seeing it come out in the late seventies.Finally ,after getting back into trains, I was able to get the southern crescent and the blue comet pulled by a mth 831. Later I added the southern pacific (daylight). All the new trains are nice, but it's a pleasure to watch some of the older trains run. Keep up the good work.

Hey Corey, if you see a good deal it's foolish to pass it up. I'm not going to ask what you paid for the Crescent Limited set, it's none of my business, but I'm willing to bet it was a fraction of what a 2024 top-of-the-line Lionel steam locomotive goes for. (And you're getting a lot more for your money if you ask me!) I believe the post-war Lionel 2046 Hudson was the pattern for those MPC passenger sets. the resemblence is pretty close. Those MPC sets are still pretty popular items for collectors. And if the "Mighty Sound of Steam" board's gone bad (most do after a while) it's easily replaced with a modern sound system from Dallee Electronics or ERR by 3d Rail. Make sure you deactivate the MSoS interruptor switch on the smoke unit in the locomotive if you do so. Or, you could shop around for a good used conventional whistle tender and swap shells. Congratulations on your purchase!

Hey thank you for the comment Wayne!! Got it for under $500, so yeah I got quite the bang for my buck compared to todays locos haha! I’ll have to look into those soundboards so thanks for the reference!

@wayneantoniazzi2706 7 ай бұрын
@@RsTrainsonYT You're welcome! Yeah, $500 ( more or less ) sounds about right for one of those sets, either Blue Comet or Crescent Limited if they're in "As new" condition. The Chicago & Alton set I THINK goes for a bit less as the general interest isn't quite there.

hi Corey ,The MPC Southern Crescent is one of my favorite locomotives of the MPC era. I pick one up at a TCA York show years back and eventually added the passenger cars to complete the set. I am sure your set will give you lots of enjoyment.

Glad to know I have the approval of the Southern Crescent from Mr. Greenberg himself 😉! They're beautiful trains, even if they're just semi-scale and simply conventional, once I get the loco running smooth, it'll be a passenger train palooza on the layout haha. Thanks for the comment Richard!

I missed the Chicago and Alton and the Blue Comet back in 1978. I could have bought them both brand new straight from the factory, but I fooled around and didn't do it. I am still kicking myself 46 years later.
@RsTrainsonYT
@RsTrainsonYT 7 ай бұрын
Technically if I remember correctly, you can probably get them for a better price today than what they were being sold for back then (taking inflation into account of course), but the feeling isn't the same when getting a brand new train! Still can't believe we're getting close to these MPC trains turning 50 years old!! Thank you for the comment George!
@wayneantoniazzi2706
@wayneantoniazzi2706 7 ай бұрын
@@RsTrainsonYT Strictly speaking Corey they ARE going for better prices now proportionately than they were all those years ago. The interest in them, although somewhat strong, isn't what it was around the year 2000, more or less, hence the good price you paid for that "Southern Crescent" set.

Those are a couple trains that are on my list. I do however have one on your list. The Chicago and Alton. Mine has a pretty good sounding sound of steam yet. But that one is from 1981. The sound of steam probably evolved a bit. Your Dad must be 2 generations older than you? My parents had me in there forty’s. I enjoyed the video.

Oh this one is a must haves for any conventional MPC era collector haha! The Chicago & Alton set looks really nice, love the combination of the colors on the passenger cars! Yeah Dad's a few decades older than me if I didn't hint at it enough in the video 😆! Thanks for the comment Ken!

Just watched a few videos on the MTH SC, and boy is it pretty nice and pretty far out of my budget 😂! Maybe one day I'll get lucky and find one for a bargain, although a Blue Comet is on my mind now much more than the SC! Thanks for the comment Will, was great to meet ya at the show too, hope all those trains you were walking around with worked out well haha!

@@RsTrainsonYT Right, MTH's Premiere line is the scale high-end product line so sure it's going to be pricy. But as I said if you look at the lower-end RailKing line there are some bargains to be had. I couldn't afford anything in the Premiere line either.

@@RsTrainsonYT You can get the Rail King Southern Ps4 Pacific for a good price. I have one to pull my pretty rare AMT Southern Crescent set. You could get a set of the 18" streamlined cars, which would look good on your layout. Even the slightly smaller, 15" Super Speedliner-style streamlined cars, would be quite nice and you can pick them up for a fair price. As I stated above, a nice set of the O gauge Southern cars would look good behind your MPC Southern Crescent Pacific. You could get the larger O gauge cars for your Blue Comet, also. Full sized cars made the trains look so much better.
