Today I wanted to talk about the foundation of your natural hair regimen! Having consistently moisturized hair can be one of the most confusing and frustrating aspects of being natural but it IS possible for you! *Also, shout out to TriracialBeauty2 for pointing out that hydral fatigue is actually spelled and pronounced Hygral Fatigue! When it comes to that phrase my eyes and ears have been playing tricks on me for years 😄

Hi Kenya, I want to thank you for all of your videos. My teenage sons hair type has changed over the past year and so we need to find a new routine for him. Being a mum to mixed race children I have always wanted to learn and make sure I was doing right by their skin and hair. Dads hair is so different as well so what works for him doesn't work for our son. This has helped me understand how to help him understand his hair and discover what works for him. I just wanted to say that I appreciate you. 😊😊

I made it to the end! Another thing I like to do to seal in moisture is adding ACV to my spray bottle along with conditioner so that it’s moisturized yet Ph balanced as well

I have low porosity fine hair with low to medium density and I use aloe vera and water in my spray bottle and seal with almond oil. This works wonders for my hair. Oh I pretty much have been wearing my hair in wearable twists all summer.

I really like this video because it covers the basics of hair care in such a short period of time, but it's very informative. Will you ever do a short video on your favorite non-toxic nail polish brands to buy from? P.S. Kenya just to give you a heads up. I can't remember if you like or don't like silicones but one of your favorite leave-ins Mielle changed the ingredients of her white peony leave-in and it now has a Amodimethicone as the 3rd ingredient.

What great information! I especially love the info on deep conditioners and how they work so well for our hair. For so long I didn't use them thinking the washing and moisturizing was doing the trick, sadly no. But when I got on the program boy what a difference! ACV rinse is bomb. You packed a punch with this one!

I really appreciate the fact that you explain thoroughly what to do, especially when you have fine hair. Your tips are very simple and by far have worked the best for my hair.I have set myself back several times over the past ten years, struggling with this natural hair journey, but now after my big chop last year, I am learning to be more patient and just give my hair that extra TLC.

I have higher porosity hair. I detangle-wash-condition- deep condion, once a weekend on washday; then style using LOC method. Once Mid-week, I style using the LOC method for moisture. When I shampoo weekly, I alternate between a sulfate shampoo and a sulfate-free co-wash. When I use a deep conditioner weekly I alternate between a strengthening conditioner and a moisturizing conditioner. This routine works for me. I also use all the length retention tips too. But I do not use heat. I prefer a hair hat (aka wig) for once in a while straight looks. Most days is a bun or twistout for style with bit of alcohol free gel.

Something that has been helping me retain moisture is wetting my hair more. I've been doing this for a short time and have noticed a hugggeee difference. I co wash when my hair feels dry and I shampoo every week. When I co wash I apply vo5 strawberry conditioner to my hair only then coconut oil then I massage it through my hair and rinse. Then I apply my fav conditioner, Suave rosemary mint and a bit more coconut oil then I rinse. I'm still working on what to apply to my hair after my cowash. The vo5 I find removes product while the suave moisturizes. When I shampoo which is weekly, I pre poo with coconut oil then shampoo with diluted shampoo in an applicator bottle focused on my scalp. I then apply my deep conditioner in the shower on really wet hair and leave it in anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour. After that, I rinse the dc dry with a t shirt for about 10 minutes then apply leave in conditioner and some oil. My hair used to be so dry after my wash and applying slabs of leave in conditioner on hair that feels dry after washing it isn't the answer. The co washes and the deep conditions are a game changer for me and my hair is getting more moisturized and easy to detangle.

She explained this so well yet I’m still so confused lol!!! High porosity, fine, low density hair seems like a paradox! Need light stuff but my hair will dry up fast. I guess the refresh is where I need to focus? Anyone else relate to my hair? What are your experiences?
@scellabrat
@scellabrat 4 жыл бұрын
Mine is the same except I'm medium density. I use knot today, pink lotion, and softee and my hair loves it. Stays moistured for days, an entire week or two if I leave it in braids or twists. Give it a try.

I can relate!!! :) I layer leave ins on wash day. I use protein treatments to make my hair stronger and to hold in moisture better. Yogurt manku honey shea moisture one. I refresh w water and the Curls refresh moisturizer and do a protective style. I put a twist out cream lightly on top to seal in moisture and tame fly aways baby hairs. High porosity finer hair drys out and breaks easily. So im trying to strengthen it and protect it from breakage. Fingers crossed i will retain some length!!! 🤞🤞🤞
@nicolef2496
@nicolef2496 3 жыл бұрын
The Curls refresher is a lightweight gel. First spray your hair with water and then spray the refresh into your hands and squeeze it into each section of your hair. It's super lightweight for finer hair types and it's really moisturizing and has tons of slip. Then your hair is ready for a protective style. I only use heavy creams last and really lightly to seal in the moisture. I don't want to weigh down my hair or block moisture from getting back in bc high porosity hair really needs constant hydration. I just reuse an old refresher bottle w/ water so i can spray my hair w water every day. Protective styling makes a huge difference when you have high porosity hair. When your hair is out.....and loose...water evaporates faster. It's taken me a while to realize that. Now im like.....duh! 😆

I was actually happy to see a video of some length, because I always enjoy your content. And, as usual you did not disappoint! Because my hair is high porosity and dry, over the past month I have started co-washing with OYIN (at your suggestion), every four or five days and shampooing about every fourth or fifth wash. Additionally, I always deep condition as part of the process. And, I am seeing great results. My hair is retaining more moisture, it feels stronger, with less shedding. But, while I am wearing more WNG's, my technique still needs tweaking. And, I need to find the right products to use. My hair does not like gels. I am considering the new Super Stretch but it has coconut, which has been a no no for my hair... :-( Thanks for another great informational video!

I needed this😭 ( this comment was typed before watching the video ) I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or what, but I have High porosity hair( actually I don’t know because I get build up VERY easily; I moisturize every day ) and I would moisturize it, and put coconut oil ontop to try preserve moisture and then in a couple of hours my hair feels like hay, but still with oil 🤷🏽‍♀️ ( the moisturizer I use is a thick cream )

angelica burr 🙋I can answer this from updated personal experience: Okay so I'm HP (high porosity) and I've already installed some double strand twists which I won't wash/redo until just b4 Labor Day. So far so good. Since week 1, I've just been making sure to tie my hair up with a decorative silk scarf. Then as I bathe or shower the steam really gets my hair nice and soft from the steam without getting super duper saturated then after I remove the scarf *while it's damp* I add back a hint of the leave in mixed with the sealant oil I used to style my hair day 1 and concentrate on both my scalp and last but not least my *ends* and they're still curly q'd up with no residue.

...for rollerset styles that you don’t want to wet to moisturize use oil 🤔 how If oil isn’t a moisturizer for hair...?
@PowerInYourCurl
@PowerInYourCurl 6 жыл бұрын
There are moisturizing oils and sealing oils. A moisturizing oil is high in fatty acids and the molecular structure of those acids are small enough to penetrate the hair shaft. Beauty Munsta has an excellent article on this here beautymunsta.com/natural-oils-that-penetrate-the-hair-shaft/ In this video, I said that you can use nourishing oils to maintain moisture in your hair. I find that applying lightweight oils (whether they are moisturizing or not) to roller sets or even straight hair gives the hair lubrication and helps to maintain the moisture that is already in your hair, not add to it.
