I have created the chair myself. It's amazing! The instruction are very complete and easy to follow. I am reselling the chairs to other nearby businesses. It's very comfortable as well. 10 out of 10!

@ilia7859 i thought it was comfortable too but he tweaked the design just before this came out so I want to see what the new version is like 😁

Great video James, I usually watch your Lasering videos, as that is part of what I do, but I am really impressed to see you making this, and whats more, I think you were absolutely right in not selling the Chair as you realised it was not upto the corrct standard, nice to see honesty like that, as I myself , would not let anything out of my shop either, if I don't think it is up to standard, well done.😃👍

Thank you for this video, James! And it's a very interesting experiment. We also struggle finding good plywood here and also had to cancel a few orders, I know how it feels. Cheers for completing a big project!

I’ve worked with a couple local boutique stores that like to stock custom and unique items. They take a cut that eats into the profit but not having the space or time to work the retail side of things, I find it works for me.

@Vintauri I actually had a segment in this originally talking about them taking a larger cut, however I said something slightly wrong in it and when I tried to cut it out the segment didn't make sense so the whole segment got binned 😆

I'm in the same boat. The retail store has doubled the price I sell my work to them for. What is typical?
@Vintauri
@Vintauri 21 күн бұрын
@ it’s not uncommon for retail to go for 100% markup. As long as you are making what you feel is fair and they can turn a profit everyone wins.

Very informative video! New subscriber here. Just curious, can those steel bolts be replaced with a wood dowel and then perhaps cut flush once the chair is completed? I just think it would be more elegant to get rid of the "Frankenstein Bolts", but maybe it's just me! Regardless, I love how you documented all the costs and time AND that you were able to show a potential profit. Looking forward to seeing more videos from you.

I was trying to figure how you were getting furniture quality ply for $45... All explained now - look into marine ply for the next project like this - though it will be closer to $120/sheet.

I had to look up plyboard and when I saw it my first though was that can't be very good !! Around here (Norfolk) 18mm Baltic Birch plywood costs £150 per 8 x 4 sheet but you can still find voids in the laminates. On the other hand, good quality marine plywood costs £195 per 8 x 4 sheet and is guaranteed to be free from voids. Prices include VAT. Personally, I'd go for the marine plywood which would cut down on the time taken to inspect and fill and voids. But that increases your base price by £155. Now the question becomes, it is still worth making this ? As a custom piece, probaby, as a trial to test the market? Probably not. Great video, thanks for making it. I'll look forward to the next in the series.

@tetleyk so after realising that with the ply, I had a look around locally was able to get baltic birch for about £130 and was much better quality. I should have known better at the time of purchasing to be honest but I am tight 😆. The guy has other designs so I may try and do another chair but to the quality it should have been in the first place

I thought Baltic Birch was 5X5'? Since Russia threw its little tantrum the price of BB doubled. I think it came back down a little.
@tetleyk

@@mrscience1409 It comes in various sizes, locally to me it's either 8' x 4' or 8' x 5'.

Damm that wear looks bad, No one it would be right to sell that to anyone! Also that design needs to be updated so they screws are recessed. They look terrible sticking out like that.

It's outdoor furniture. Usually based on an Adirondack style. Threaded rod and cap screws are the norm. I have seen this work before and I wondered how plywood would stand up against the elements.
