I now understand better how to use the program sort of. To be honest not one of the video's I've watched is really explaining how to use the program for the first time for beginners. I'm confused but I'm going to try in the morning and see if I can get it to work. I'll update then. Funny how I can build a computer from bare bones and program it starting with DOS but I can't figure out how to run a CNC 3018 LoL. I probably understand more than I think I do, I just need to do it I'm sure.

What i learnd as a full beginneris using wrong bits. I have desktop cnc with 700w router spindle. I tought if i am using bigger bits with 6 to 8mm in dia then i wount break bits so easily. Thakfully i fined James older video about feed and speeds where he talks more about bits and suggest to use flexy hoby machines smaller bits with one flute! Depth of the cut is still question. One more thing is testing. Just show your testing proccess in live. And problems possible happen. GL WITH APP
@kevinjensen98172 күн бұрын
Totally agree. Maybe you mentioned this but running a machine too slow will just wear the bit out a little faster. An app like your will get it close but you still need to test
@JamesDeanDesigns2 күн бұрын
@kevinjensen9817 yes, i mentioned going too fast or too slow will essentially ruin the bit but 100% agree regarding my app. It's not going to be a magic wand but hopefully get people close and give them confidence
@kevinjensen98172 күн бұрын
@ yes and FB groups there are so many newbie’s with that exact question and the answer is always, it depends on so many factors but if you get em close, then they can learn with less fear. I have worn out bits pretty fast but never broken one so I am probably not pushing hard enough. Lol

Brilliant idea to go for an app👍 I am a total nubie bjt love cnc machine and try to get there... Have you considered apart from the variables you are going to include in the app to apply a mic.function for evaluating next to everything else the noise/hz/sound of bit vs material (for milling, for tapping etc.). Sound does speak to the ears sometimes about the process. Just an idea..

Great review and I'm setting mine up now. I noticed the entry point of slots you cut in the pine was not in line with the rest of the cuts. About a CM of the cuts were consistently at a slight angle to the left as viewed in the video. My last CNC, a Next Wave Piranha, did the same thing later in its life. It was one of the reasons we moved up to the 6050 Plus. Can you tell what causes this? Is it normal or just a function of how you cut those slots?

James, I have been going through a lot of your videos today, so I thought an additional thanks was in order. QUESTION: Do these little VFDs accept input from the spindle lead for purposes of start, stop, and speed ? I had plans to modify a Makita to do this, but being lazy, I would be happy to change my approach.
@JamesDeanDesigns3 күн бұрын
Thank you again 🙏 yes the VFDs can be setup for full speed control on the spindles as well as starting and stopping. The process/settings vary a little between manufacturers but it's definitely possible
@rwizard2 күн бұрын
@@JamesDeanDesignsThanks for answering a silly question. My apologies. This is what happens when you pull an all nighter and then post on the Internet. When I re-watched your video all these things were obvious. Furthermore, I have experience with large VFDs and motors in industry. Clearly my brain had decided to go to sleep without me. Inspired by your video I have ordered a spindle and VFD for my about to be delivered XE-Pro, but because I was concerned about spindle weight, and 3hp seemed like a lot of torque for this little machine, I went with an 800 watt, 1hp spindle. Good choice or bad? (I know as a guy I should be trying to figure out how to install a 10hp instead.)
@JamesDeanDesigns2 күн бұрын
@rwizard it's not a bad choice, a bit more powerful than a trim router and certainly better than the stock spindle. A 1.5kw would have probably been my choice but I'm sure the 800w will do you well

FoxAlien has another model, XE-Pro, that uses closed loop steppers, much better than open loop (more reliable positioning, faster speeds) and offers great options, including ball screw operation, linear rails on X, Y, and Z axis, and a generous bed expansion. The base model of the XE-PRO is moderately priced, and you can upgrade as your budget permits. In the end, you should have a faster, and more accurate machine. This is the path I have chosen in order to downsize from my 4'x8' Shapeoko that I built a few years ago. I think i will use this more often, and it will take up a lot less space. I just don't need the extra size, and I need the space as other equipment comes into the shop. I will miss it as a place to toss random junk though 😊.
@JamesDeanDesigns4 күн бұрын

Just bought one via Amazon Not the greatest quality control, the right hand toothed gear tube was tight at one end and I had to file it to get it to run freely, as usual the mitre fence is rubbish which is a pity given the rest of the saw was pretty good, the only thing I miss from my Rage 5 was a convenient place to store spare blades this version doesn't have any The main reason I upgraded was dust collection, on the Rage 5 it went everywhere despite a dedicated shop vac, The R255TBX+ is phenomenal no dust in the workshop now using a vacuum connected. Finally I was surprised the mobile stand from my Rage 5 wont fit!! Another £80.00 unless I modify!! All in all a good upgrade especially the fantastic dust collection
