Several critical reasons to practice landing on Japanese carriers is that Japan has purchased F-35B's for their carrier operations and therefore Japanese carriers offer an emergency landing platform and since the Japanese are using the F-35B as well, US F-35B's could be repaired or receive maintenance on Japanese carriers. It's a win win situation in combat. and the reverse is true as well. Japanese F-35B's needing an emergency landing on US aircraft carriers can also receive repairs and maintenance.

So which is it, destroyer or aircraft carrier? Size small, probably a modern conversion as were most WW2 era Japanese carriers, that being said, it’s a start and about time, the japans allies need to let them take the gloves off and build a reasonable responsible military to help protect all the south sea and it neighbors and especially themselves.
@DodgyJŦrum2 ай бұрын
"the japans allies need to let them take the gloves off..." In fact, it is in their constitution adopted after World War II, specifically Article 9, prevents the country from maintaining armed forces with war potential for offensive purposes. Instead, Japan maintains the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF), which are strictly for defensive purposes
@NATObait2 ай бұрын
@@googleeyeseyes4033 the naming of vessel type is confusing at best possibly misleading. The izumu is defined as a Destroyer not as a Carrier. @@tcp0023 article 9 was an American legal concept to force Japan into a self defence posture so she no longer posed a threat to other countries. Possibly history tells a ban on Germany being allowed to build submarines and bombers, after WW1 , was a lesson. Germany asked the Soviet Union to build submarines and built fast mail planes. Words and treaties are seldom honoured. So today Japan and other Pacific countries are feeling uneasy about China and the South China Sea. Who claims what and international law is being stretched to its limits. The UK, Italy and Japan are building a new 6th generation aircraft and that offers offensive capability. After 79 years the Article 9 is hardly enforced.
