I could say that HUNT: showdown is a well made cowboy horror, although a multiplayer, its atmosphere and how scary the noises in the game are (not including the tense feeling of being watched due to it being a extraction shooter) make it a horror in some ways. The enemy design in my opinion is top notch, using alot of nature elements. I think you should check it out even if you dont enjoy the genre.
@KrexelАй бұрын
I fucking LOVE Hunt: Showdown's lore and setting. And the gunplay is amazing! I just really hate the PvP elements. I'm not very good at PvP so as fun as it was I stopped after a while cause I just wasn't very good at the game. I honestly really want a PvE only version of Hunt: Showdown. Maybe a story driven experience set in the world of Hunt: Showdown rather than the same game minus the multiplayer

I still think Hbomberguy's definition of an immersive sim is the best I've heard "can you solve a problem meant to be solved by a fight or stealth by stacking a bunch of boxes and going around the encounter?" (loosely paraphrased lol)
@LittleMushroomGuyАй бұрын
Hbomberguys definition of an immersive sim would include texting minors, accusing people you dont like of plagiarism, voting for Kamala and being gay on the internet
@ShoppingatAMАй бұрын
@LittleMushroomGuy uhhhh k? I've never heard about that first thing, the second wasn't even accusations but just stating facts of people who had plagiarized, Hbomb doesn't even live in the U.S so his opinions on U.S politics don't really matter, and being gay on the Internet is a pretty nothing burger of a problem.

Fuck around, find out. Or linear openess. The game has a story and structure you must follow but there's ways you can go about it, often times a dichotomy of guns blazing vs stealth.

Immersive sim is a game of systems which can all independently interact with each other, even outside their designed purpose. Sticky mines are designed to be placed around the map with the goal of exploding when a enemy comes near Meaning: Sticky mines are 3D objects that can be placed anywhere. And you can stand on all 3D objects. Resulting: You use sticky mines to create stairs Completely outside their initial design, but still completely fair and part of the game.

The Undead is mean?!? >:( Well, perhaps, but he is a friend! Jokes aside, thanks for the awesome review. Very much enjoyed it. Glad you enjoyed the voice acting and audio design in general. I'm also very flattered to be in the cast alongside the two very prominent names you may or may not have mentioned xD Cheers Painticus!

1880 Western FPS would be a perfect places to adapts some HP Lovecraft influence, but many developers these day doesn't know how to make something surreal and horrifying without making it's look disgusting, like rotten corpse, and tenacles all over the places, and that isn't Eldritch horror, that is just the biproducts of Eldritch horror.

i always defined emersive sims as a game that builds systems with lots of uses, and worlds that feel like it can react to however you chose to use those systems.

i always felt a imsim was just a fps crpg. high interactivity, rpg mechanics beyond just dialogue choices, meaningful player builds, that kind of thing. the only thing that seperates a crpg from an imsim is the perspective and real time combat imo.

So as someone who watches another youtuber (Charlatan Wonder go check him out, he does cooking segments!) that has their hands deep in the immersive sim genre has sorta figured out a scale of immersive sim? Though to get back to the topic of is this game an immersive sim I believe it is a yes? Again as Painticus explained in the video trying to figure out what is and isn't is like trying to find a leprechaun at the beginning of a rainbow.

An addition the games you mentioned in the beginning - which you may have rectified in these past Nine months - is 2022s Weird West from Wolf Eye Studios. A dev team headed up by Arkane founder Raphaël Colantonio, director of Arx Fatalis, Prey, Dishonored and Dark messiah. If you don’t know it, you’re both missing out an in for a treat.

I think rootin' and tootin' are two separate activities. At least they are when I do them. Just 5 mins ago got a pop-up saying this game is on sale at GOG, so I thought I'd check out some reviews. And however much you skirt around it, the fact you are talking about immersive sims in a Blood West review means I'm going to buy the game. Never mind defining what they are for other people - *I* know what I think they are, and I like them!
@LancerOfZero7 ай бұрын
I don't know how you always find these incredibly niche and interesting games, but I'm really happy about it! This looks amazing and I can't wait to try it out! Regarding your... Immersive Sim dilemma: I recently had a similar experience when I dipped my toes into the genre of """character action games""" for the first time. The discourse about this type of games goes as far as whether or not it actually is a genre in its own right. There are endless discussions about what should and shouldn't be included in this extremely vague label. Some people have such restrictive views on the matter that they don't accept any game other than the Devil May Cry series as being a character action game. I assume the discord around ImSims is probably even worse...

Great vid, kinda really tapped into some underlying feelings with …~immersive sims~… to where I’m almost disillusioned with the very concept. The way that it’s held up can sometimes make it feel like the modern quest for the philosopher’s stone. This could also come from my lack of understanding what people want to attain that magical immersion along with how player choice feels like an illusion made up as a marketing ploy. That I’m less applying to every title but just the ones that really wanna make player choice their main ethos in their game design and presentation. It’s like with the the whole nemesis system from shadow of Mordor. Technically it works but it just didn’t resonate with me as I learned more of what made it work.that last thing is just a personal pet peeves that’s always haunted me…

this was a pretty good video about bloody West I already own it and have almost finished the game (I'm on purpose stalling because I really love the game) and I think this video was good at explaining the game. by the way ghost tomahawk that teleport to you? is probably my favorite! weapon in this entire game, the blood version is not as fun? but holy s***!!! I really love the ghost tomahawk, the idea of throwing something and then teleported to me so cool!!!! and I also want to quickly say skills do matter a lot! but only some of them, for example? the one that allows you to Fannin your revolver is a huge game changer, especially when you get the chain revolver.

I tried it a few months ago after the swamp update. It showed a lot of promise, but I was pretty underwhelmed by the repetitive gameplay and enemy placement, underused environmental interactivity and a lack of some basic QoL tweaks. Unless there were some major changes, I really wouldn't call it an im-sim. It felt more like an offline looter shooter.

I think the best approach is to just ditch immsims entirely as a descriptor and use "systems driven" instead. it carries more or less the same point across without any of the sheer baggage that comes with immsims, their fans, and the myriad conflicting definitions. if you know basic game terms like what systems (rules) and mechanics (actions) are, then you probably understand what a "systems driven game" is pretty much as instinctively as you would a horror game or first person shooter.
