In retrospect people's fears where concerned. SH2 remake is great for non-Silent Hill fans, it's got God awful forced combat, the sexual horror is toned down (with some minor exceptions that, I don't think you'd ever be able to tone down). The best aspects are the puzzles, which I feel aren't half-bad. I feel some of the reworked levels are good (hotel, mostly), others bad... It's also just too long. It's an American redux, that whilst okay, is completely inferior to it's Japanese original. Kinda like the Ring and the Grudge before it. But then again, I think the best American SH game is Shattered Memories, so what do I know? Team Bloober just fill me with Dread, I wanted to like Layer of Fear... But I cannot like it. I wanted to like Blair Witch, but I couldn't get into it... Man... Mediocre studio, not awful, but not great

13:30 after a bit of research I found that the doors song was a cover of another song of the same name. It was supposedly from the perspective of prostitutes, and the lyrics were originally singing about "finding the next little boy," referring to their clients, which does not make it any less weird. Plus, instead of changing the lyric to something normal, the doors just replaced it with "little girl." Either they are both nonces or are comically oblivious to the way those lyrics sound. After researching this I have more questions than answers.

Amnesia: TDD is literally THE gothic game. It is basically just a gothic novel as a horror adventure game. It popularized notes as storytelling in games which is similar to frame narratives in gothic novels, and the horror is on a very personal and architectural level.

So I play Evony - it was fun when the game came out. Now, it is a cash grab by Top Games, You have to spend a boat load of money in order to get anywhere in the game and the people... are mostly horrible. Once in a while you find a group that is amazing to play with but other than that, its who's 3rd leg is bigger.

Honestly the Silent Hill 2 remake totally cooked. I was really really impressed. Better than the original and on par or potentially surpassing other modern remakes. Nailed it. Hail Blooper!

All these games take inspiration from Hello Neighbour. Back when Hello Neighbour was in its alpha it was a lot of fun and all of these games use a similar gameplay. These games are so identical that Stay Out the house, Hello Neighbour and Granny all have enemies that drop bear traps.

when i was little i loved Animal Jam and played it near constantly, i eventually aged out of it but its parent company announced something of a spiritual successor in 2019. i signed up for the closed beta and got in a little bit before it went to open beta. i was THRILLED. it was marketed as Animal Jam for older kids, and it felt like it. then they announced in-game purchases, which was a bit odd for a game still in early access, but i was young and enthusiastic and figured that my money was supporting a development company i not only liked, but trusted. in 2022 the game shut down without much of any warning - if i'm remembering right, they actually shut down the servers with basically no heads-up and then had to reopen them for a day because they technically were breaking their own TOS by shutting down without 30-day notice (don't quote me on that, it's been a few years and i might be totally off the mark). not just the time, but the money i had poured into the game got wiped from existence, because the developers decided they actually wanted to jump on the NFT trend. the work of a team of programmers, artists, writers, musicians - all of that collective effort got flushed down the toilet and written off as a financial loss. as far as i'm aware, nothing was preserved, no fan projects to revive the game in any form exist. it's just gone.
