If I was Emily, I'd be super grateful to Jessica and Bert for all they are offering. With the lack of accommodation available (and the price), a possible job that she can fit around the children with alaska apparal, and lots of support from family living nearby I'd be over the moon, but she couldn't even offer a thank you or smile looking around the flat, even if she's tired from the travel.

moragellis3040 I noticed the same thing. Not even a smile. Tired and exhausted I would have been so elated and shown so much gratitude for all the preparation and great touches. 😮 to have such a beautiful home ready.🤦‍♀️😔 I feel really sad with the NO reaction of Happiness!

Keep in mind we maybe see just a few minutes of their life on camera. How do you know she didn't cry or showed her emotions off camera? We don't know that. Maybe they wanted to keep that private and off youtube. Don't be so quick to assume how someone feels or has reacted. I have noticed Emily seems abit more shy on camera at times.

By the look on Emily's face she'll be heading back to Arizona soon... hope it was just the stress of flying, but she was not thrilled with the apartment. I'd move to a coastal fishing area in Alaska myself, not inland... but the prices are for the rich and famous. Nana was a big part of the SomersIn Alaska for a few years, your kids are going to love having her back...

I did it! I am 68 I will be 69 in December. I lived in Missouri within 100 miles, all my life. I lost my first husband in 1994, and my son in 2000. In 2008 I met my 2nd husband and married that fall. My husband and I were missionaries to the prisons, and moved our ministry here to Alaska in 2015, after we prayed for God's direction. He unfortunately past in 2020. I continue the ministry of mine and mylate husband after he passed. I have now been here a little over 8 years. I loved Alaska when we visited the prisons in 2011 and 2013, and even though my husband passed, I still love Alaska it is my home, even if the Lord thinks I am to old to do the ministry, this is home.

After 23 years of being a full time mom, all 3 of my children moved out and Away within 6 weeks. The closest was 3 hours away and the furthest was 12 hours away. I cried everyday for 3 months, then I slowly did a redo to my house and repurposed their bedrooms…tv room, extra bedroom. So I could go into those rooms or walk through my house and be happy again

We ended up in Maryville, Tennessee and love the small community, the weather and the greenness of the area. We are not planning to move again.

My only advice as an empty nester would be to enjoy your time together. Life is way to short and can be over in a blink of an eye. Spend this time doing things together. It is like dating again. I was blessed with 5 1/2 years as an empty nester with my husband before he passed away at 53 years old. Enjoy the things that make you happy and smile.

as an empty nester since 2010, The first year is weird. You go from being the decision maker/caretaker-it's a major adjustment, going from full time parenting, to letting them fly on their own. Just know, you are STILL their parents. They still need you, just not on a daily basis. Keep the big traditions/family get togethers going, but let them be who they are. You now get to learn who YOU are, outside of the parenting role. I found a hobby, making beaded jewelry. In 2018, we lost our beloved rescue Dog, Daizy, so that was truly the first time it was just my husband and I in the house. Now we are free to do things we want to do, without having to find child care or pet care, or consider logistics for them. Enjoy this season of life, as it, too, will evolve and change.

Palmer Alaska to start after first year moved to Anchorage started my adult life and then started having kids after first born I dreamed of moving out to wasilla alaska as I grew up on a ranch In California and very tight family in a super super small town. We have made it to wasilla finally I'm 38 and will enjoy Alaska much as I can before my heart brings me back ♥️ home home! It's a hard one most of all I know is in alaska being an adult is all in alaska sp going back home is calling me as I see my boys grow and miss my mom, dad so I been working on hopefully getting to be a snowbird. Alaska in the summer and California in the winter ❤

I grew up in a small town in NE Wisconsin. The closest big city was 45 miles away. I went away to college in Kenosha which is soooo much bigger than i was used to living in. Thankfully I had family there to stay with. It was okay but I didnt really like the city. I misseed the quiet of a small town and our family farm where we raised animals to feed our family, a huge garden, and all the things that made me feel safe. Our closest neigh or was a half mile away and our closest little town was 5 miles away. To me that will always be home.

Hi happy people, Somer’s family and love ones. A Di’ne from the Di’ne Reservation, an empty nester for three years and fear not. As a Christian, I always wondered what it was going to be like as my two children went on there own. I grew closer to the Lord, relationship personal and unconditional. He reminds me time and time again that He will never leave me nor forsake me . I took a hold of the word of God as my stronghold, commissioned to translate the sermon in my native language for the love of my elderlies. I know Gods timing is always on time to teach me to be patient, loving, a listener, a prayer warrior, to hide the word of God in my Heart that when trials and tribulations/sun shows up I will not sin against God. God is good all the time. Learning to take time to walk two miles if not at work.

I was born and raised in North highlands Scotland and I could never imagine myself living anywhere else. I live about 15 miles from the village I grew up in. We moved to the nearest small town which is still surrounded by lots of rural space. I love it here. It is home. My roots are deep.

I was born in Portland Oregon grew up 30 miles west. and have lived in Wyoming, Texas, and Ohio, also other towns in Oregon, I love the small town feeling. There is a town in Oregon called Burns, in the middle of nowhere, a 2 hour drive to anywhere. I loved it there.

I have an empty nest. I miss my girls so much but im blessed we all live within 30-40 minutes. I still don't get to see my older daughter for weeks. She works a lot. Its been a couple years and I'm pricking up old hobbies, going to concerts and some traveling.

I grew up in Fairbanks, 6 mile Steese Hwy. I miss it every day. I married a wild man I met at UAF and then he went into computers... We are currently stuck in Utah, and my wild man has gotten soft. He likes it here, but I'd move back in a heartbeat. Your channel gives me a bit of home, also makes me homesick. It's a double-edged sword. Alaska will always have my heart. Everytime I visit, I push to move home for good. Yes, the winters are brutal, but there's beauty in the harshness that you can't find anywhere else. ❤

Something i realized when kids flew the nest is that i kept things. Or saved things. Stuff.. "it can come handy later, or, they might need it later.." You know what? They won't.. Make your home yours, after your needs and wishes. That made me thrive in my own home.. I eventually moved and bought a small house, and it's mine. Never regretted it! I wish you all the best!

I’m a home bird and a Yorkshire lass all the way through, and I’m so happy where I am in Leyburn in the Yorkshire Dales. We have cold winters and beautiful summers (obviously we have rain…it is England after all😆😆). I just don’t belong anywhere else. When you know, you know. I wish I could show you what I look at every morning when I walk my dogs. However I would love to visit Alaska, Canada…nothing too hot lol xx🙏🏻🌼

My husband and I are recent empty nesters and it’s a hard transition. I really struggled with the quiet. We’ve recently taken up kayaking and tubing down the river by our house. We had to get a hobby to bring more joy in our life. Now the kids and their spouses go with us and it’s become a big family event. It’s a great time to find adult hobbies.

I loved growing up in a small town in Oklahoma! I loved the seasons -the monarchs migration through our little town and all the beautiful old Victorians that lined the streets ! I move back in a heartbeat if I could find a job there ! Small towns r the best to grow up in !

I loved seeing the Somers kids working so hard to get the apartment ready. I really hope it’s appreciated and they know how blessed they are. BTW: I live 100 yards from the home I grew up in. Our property has been in our family for 5 generations and I cannot see us ever moving. I would love to visit Alaska but I don’t think I’m tough enough to survive the winters there. 🥶😂

Glad the fam got moved and you get to have some time with your Mom for a while. The more your mom talks the more she makes me think a lot of Audrey. You have such a beautiful close family.

I have lived in my home state of Delaware all my life. Still live close to my Mom and family. Cannot imagine living anywhere else. We do vacation in the OBX twice a year. Love it there too, but we do not visit in the summer when they are extremely busy so not sure if we would love it then. Enjoy your visit with your Mom and so happy you have family that have moved close to you.

My husband did at 17. He was from the city in Michigan and I am from a small community in Louisiana with only 1 school, 2 churches and a gas station. We drive 30 min to the nearest grocery store and over an hour from the nearest Walmart or hospital. We bought the house and land that actually connects to the very spot I grew up at. We have been married for 15 1/2 years now. And even though we are traveling all over the US for my husbands job for the last two years, we still own our home and go visit often. But yes, if my husband ever wanted to move to a different area in the middle of nowhere, I would ❤
