2:16 For everyone DYI’ing something like this, disconnect 12V and HV loop. You really don’t want to tamper with an airbag that’s connected to power.

Yes it feels OEM! I even left the center part alone so it’s really using the oem center piece. It feels like this is how Tesla is meant to be driven.

thanks for this vid- i didn’t think there was a yoke option for Y’s. also if this helps anyone else, for more torque to unbolt that center nut, you can slide a long pipe over the handle of the wrench/ratchet to make it longer - a 1” diameter medium length lead pipe would make it a lot easier, longer and heavier

quick question- did the yoke change the steering ratio? like can you do full lock at 90 degree turn of the yoke?

No it didn’t change it. The ratio feels the same so it felt instantly comfortable. You’ll love the yoke steering wheel!

So you don’t have to transfer the buttons from your old wheel to the new wheel with this? The buttons work without reprogramming them?

Yes the new wheel has all the buttons and you can buy the version with the heater. The o my thing you transfer is the center airbag right under the emblem. I saved myself a hassle of using and transferring the new center horn part and just kept the origin center horn and I like it better. I still love it and even though a new steering wheels are now available I don’t want to change out of this cause it’s so fun and comfortable to drive with the yoke. Plus it looks so modern!

did you unplug the 12V and HV batteries when installing the yoke? Any down sides for not disconnecting them?

I was just being lazy, but I should’ve disconnected the battery. I have disconnected batteries before to install other accessories. Nothing happened but I’m sure there’s always a chance something happened if you don’t unplug.

That’ll be cool. You use the plastic wedge tool or even a big flat head screw driver and gently pull the sides then just pull it out slowly. Easy but difficult if that can make sense.

Hi Myong. Sorry for writing again. I'm still a little confused. I have a Tesla 3 - 6/2023. So, I don't have to remove the control box from my original steering wheel, do I switch to this Yoke? I Just have take it out of the box and put the airbag in and everything will work? Even the heater? Thank you for your attention.

Yup. There isn’t a control box for you to take out. At least for this yoke you don’t need to if there is a control box that I don’t know about. It’s just that simple to move over the airbag and just plug the two plugs in and everything will work. Just like this video that simple except it took all my strength to take out the middle bolt and screw back on. You’re gonna love this steering wheel. Up to now I still love driving with it and now I don’t like the round steering wheel when I’m driving my pathfinder family car. Did you have to remove the control box. I’ve seen people remove it when installing but you didn’t. Is that just for the heat if you have it?

That might be an older before 2021 model but I’m not sure. For 2022 and up I only had to replace the airbag if you want to use the new airbag cover but I didn’t making it easier to install.

I wanna get one for my 2024 Model 3, but here's the scary part. I've seen you do it in a couple of minutes and I've seen other KZbin videos where they take 30 min or longer by taking the entire steering wheel apart and taking other parts from the old one and putting in on the one, I don't wanna go that far. Any thoughts?

It can take 30 minutes for sure since you want to take your time. I didn’t change the airbags over and that’s what takes so long. I like the original airbag and its cover so leave that alone and buy the Napa black with NO airbag cover that saves you a few bucks. Did you disconnect your power source prior to install? I installed New York steering wheel however did not disconnect the power and now I’m receiving a scrolling Wheel unavailable message. However, in new update has been pushed so I’m waiting for the update. Hopefully that will resolve but wanted to ask you first.

I had to keep turning off the car through the screen but I know it’s better if we were to disconnect the battery first. It can be a faulty steering wheel. I would out back on the original steering wheel if you’re getting that sign or make sure the cables are for yo connected.

None of these accessories for warranty. It’s like changing your stereo in your car, which doesn’t void any warranty. I even took it in for a warranty service with all my mods, and they didn’t even question it.

Hmm why yours don’t work? There are yoke steering wheels with and without heater. You can save few bucks by getting the no heater version. Once you plug in your steering wheel it just works.

I haven't installed it yet. I bought yesterday exactly the one you posted in the link with your code, thanks for the 20%. I just saw some videos that some people with this same yoke had to remove the Module from the original steering wheel in order for the heater to work on the Yoke. So I was unsure if it was necessary to do anything else to install.

I saw sometimes that blue unit/module in the middle must be replaced from original steering wheel.. Why not here?

If you’re going to use the blue needle piece, then yes, you have to take out the airbag and put it into the new piece. In this video, I just kept the original Tesla airbag horn which fits perfectly into the yoke steering wheel.

I saw several videos with instruction where they always must dismantle this part from original steering wheel, take this original blue module and insert it into new yoke - because yoke has less space in this area or not sure what was the main reason.. 🙂

Yoke could be interesting ... if the max rotation was 90 degrees (which doesn't seem to be the case).

The Cybertruck is the only one that has the steer by wire which sounds cool. It’s still very nice to drive with the yoke. I still like it better than regular round steering wheels that’s just our family SUV.
