We've spent the last couple of months in the same area near Long Eaton. We were in the boat yard having work done, then we took a mooring on the river for a month then moved downstream for a couple of weeks but now... IT IS TIME TO LEAVE! 🤩 We are so excited to get on the move again in our narrowboat home. Now we have our new addition (the tiny boat) we will still have to travel back to the boat yard to work on it until we can get it in the water and unite the two boats and travel in convoy! 😃

Frogs and toads do not spend that much time in water except during the breeding season so I would always release in the vegetation. Canal banks can be problematic for amphibians as they cannot climb the vertical sides to get out. As the (normally) cooler days arrive at this time of year they will be looking for cool, damp places in preparation for winter.

I love old vehicle's too, Emily. The green Bedford looked like a military fire engine, nicknamed the green goddess. During a firemans strike when I was a child they bought them out of store and were using them nationally. They were ancient, even then and had to be hand cranked to start. Wiiiide handle bars on your bike - I bet they're good at clearing the towpaths! It's a mountain bike leverage thing for making steering easier, I think.

For some reason, 27 minutes of your videos feels like about 10 minutes. It feels like I just started watching and then you're saying goodbye for the week. Honestly you could make your videos twice as long and I wouldn't mind at all. I know that would be a lot more editing work for you, but I don't think any of us would complain. Maybe a 45 minute video? One of the things I like, well maybe two things, is one, Benny's music is absolutely perfect for this lifestyle. The instrument sounds, the tempo, the recording quality... just perfect. And two, although to you your lifestyle probably seems a bit routine, to me it's like a weekly adventure. You aren't just going to work and coming home each day, doing the same things, driving the same route to and from day after day. The boat is like a member of the family, as it's always the same and with you, but everything else is just enough of an adventure to be refreshing and enjoyable. Thank you for sharing all this with us!

Mr Frog/Toad would have been happier on the grass, they spend little of their lives in water & even then it's usually gentle streams or big puddles or ponds. They spend most of their time in grassy areas eating bugs. They only go in water for breeding or to cool down so hopefully he got up the bank & back in the grass. He was probably just hanging out with you for a while on his travels, maybe hitching a lift. Rooibos = red bush tea.

Love your little boat, so cute. We passed your Dad a while ago above Shardlow gave him a wave. If you stop at Aston Lock and walk across the field into Aston there is an excellent and well stocked village store. It’s first left past the church there is also a post office. Make sure you pop into Nosta (Aston spelled backwards), a cafe/ bar a really cool bar that also has session artists (like Ben)of an evening. Hope this gets to you in time.😊😊Rowena

Have you thought about using a battery powered outboard on the new boat? You are seeing more of them and the reviews are good. With solar cells and a good battery bank you don't have the mess of gasoline. Great videos.

The mini boat is an awesome idea! You moored a 100m from our home moorings in Shardlow while we were out. It was great to see you all further down the network when we came home the other day. Hope you got chance to catch the Shardlow show this weekend. PS: we had a stowaway too. A cat got on board and made herself known half way through a tunnel by climbing onto the roof and yowling ! We were lucky a passing family could look after her and some Facebook sleuthing turned up the owner to get them reunited a week later!

Frogs don’t like open water because fish will eat them. Have you seen many larger fish in the canals or rivers? Do they allow fishing? A popular lure for bass fishermen is a plastic frog 🐸 😂

My memory of our visit to Shardlow in 1992 is very vivid, even more so for my wife. We tied up at a pub and somehow she managed to fall in the canal in the process, much to the amusement of the drunken patrons on the pub patio. She went in over her head and proceeded to take a LONG shower. We then went into the pub for dinner to much applause.
