WHAT !!! Oh no a cliff hanger !!! Other than that this is a spectacular video !! Those horses are so incredibly beautiful and eager to please. I love watching them and you working with them, Jim. Brenda, I appreciate you noticing that it's important to keep the butt clean. Jim, picture perfect falling of the tree. Whole video is memorizing. Thanks (but not for the d*** cliff hanger, although I have already imagined how this all works out)

Beautiful work, Jim. Whoa, now we have to wait til Friday to see if Bill and Lady makes it up the hill! I'm guessing they do. I'm glad you might pull off this job until the ground freezes! Can't have you or the horses getting injured. See you on the next one!😘

The woods are very beautiful. Long trail! At the end of the video Lady was so antsy - she kept moving, and the cart kept rolling backwards toward the log - and Jim.. It was making me nervous. But Brenda was right there - and Jim has eyes on the back of his head - so I figured it would all be OK. And it was. But the horses really pulled when asked. They are amazing! Brenda's joke about "cleaning up the butt" cracked me up. For a second it looked like Jim was going to let it go - but then he cracked up too. You guys are so funny!

@Elkadetodd2 жыл бұрын
Made a realization watching this. While hooking up the logs, you stay on the uphill side for safety, as you should. But then you needed to rerig the big one for the sling, on the downhill side. Which would be seriously dangerous alone, even with one chain already on. If you were using a skidsteer and the log shifted even a little and pinned you, you'd lie in the woods and hope someone comes to look for you. You can't reach the controls. But with the horses still hooked up, you could call to them to pull and they'd save you. The team gives you a nice safety margin.

Jim and Brenda, I'm sure you have hear this many times, but Kudos to you for a great channel. I am researching the 1830 pioneers of NY and find your work very important to my research. Just how did our pioneer ancestors do it. Well you are answering a lot of questions and making it fascinating. Can you imagine the relationship between a farmer in 1830 and their horse or oxen. Their entire lively depended on a good team. I love both of your teaching styles. Goodspeed to you in all your endeavors, and may you make enough money on these videos to retire comfortably when you are ready.

That's one big log to go up hill, I can appreciate all the chain setting and positioning. Putting a lifting pc. under the log is a great idea. Keeping your fingers in the right place as the horses "tap the load" is huge, a finger in the wrong place , will come right off! I have a friend that lost his index and middle finger as a choker cable came tight on a log, his hand between the cable and log as it pulled. Serious business. Good job Jim. Jim if you pull out you know it is the right thing to do. Mud just fights your work and you and Bill and Lady could get hurt. Brenda too. We don’t want that. This is still a lesson for the young loggers to pick up. Looking forward to this continuing adventure. Way to go Brenda! Keeping that logging humor!!!

@kevinknight4702 жыл бұрын
Good observation Chris, I'm guessing that Jim wanted to break the hinge and pop the log away from the stump.🙂
@chrislittlefarm2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinknight470 That's true Kevin, as he also cuts up to a quite thin hinge (as far as I can judge from the video) Probably he was thinking ahead to how to get the cart as close to that log as possible, far enogh from the stump. Masterclass 👍
@johnkomosa40892 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, I believe the twist you refer to is caused as the upper portion of the tree makes contact with the branches up above and twists the tree to the left as the tree finds its center as falling. Looking at the stump, the holding fibers were broke at the point of the twist and the tree free falling. Interesting observation though, the interference came from the upper canopy I believe. I like the way Jim, cuts his trunks , it's unique and looks and works well. Eastern Coast trees differant than West coast felling. The big hard woods act differant, but the physics still set in stone.. you got me look'n, ah ha.😄 Like that release of the back trigger strap, I have only used that a few times on extreme leaners. Thanks for getting me thinking.
@johnkomosa40892 жыл бұрын
Good case study, watching again I see what you mean, so! Much force on that protrusion. Good eye.. Cheers. Lots of force on that trunk as the big tree comes over, tremendous! And why Ash will barber chair as they say, as they dangerously, split up following the wood grain.
@chrislittlefarm2 жыл бұрын
@@johnkomosa4089 I think that was by intend to get the log away from the stump to have more working space to hitch on to the cart. As Jim said, "everything went as planned". That way of cutting I use as well most of the time. They call it sth like "safety cutting tequnique" in my area (litterally translated) with that back strip cutting as final step. I only tend to have a broader hinge to avoid cutting the tree "dead" (as we say)

Great job as usual; I love the woods videos a little more than the farming, but both, I thoroughly enjoy. It occurred to me watching Jim with the big log, how much faith and trust you put in those beautiful horses and how they respond. They were anticipating when you were going to need them to pull and did not want to miss the call. The grit of the horses reminded me of Abby and her cement project, that girl has grit too, and it will take her far. That is testimony to how we should be with God. God bless.
