I was lucky to meet Mary and Ben at the Chiang Mai race. I was also going for 1:30 and could see Mary in front of me for the first few km, until she pulled away and I ended up finishing about 7 minutes behind. Running such a dark (in places pitch black) and lonely course at 4am really sapped my motivation, and it says a lot about Mary's mental resilience that she could execute her gameplan in those conditions. Loads of respect for this achievement! Oh yeah, and they're proper nice people too!

Congratulations Mary!!! I have no intention of actually racing, and my running goals right now are slow and injury free. I probably won’t use a lot of the advice you provide on this channel, but I keep watching because of your personalities and passion for the community of runners.

I was consistently injured for years, and also am slow and not competitive at all. I got tired of everyone asking me if I'll ever join a race, so I did with the intention of never running one again. That was October 2024. I've done one since and signed up for three more between now and may. I'm a middle of the pack runner, who treats a race more like a training run with lots of other people around me. But I love the energy and excitement

I have really enjoyed watching and learning from your videos in 2024! I am also thinking of Berlin 2025 and will try to find you in the crowds! I am an old grey haired lady of almost 73 but I am following a more firm running block for this one! Heading to Vancouver in May 2025 for the half so we will see how effective my training is for this race! Fingers crossed for a good race and best wishes for you both in 2025!

The video I needed. I am a teacher with a 90:31 half marathon PB set last year and a 40:12 10k PB. The main thing I struggle with is consistency in my training throughout the year. There can be periods of weeks or months in which I struggle to get out as much due to being busy with work. Want to try to get that consistency this year to get those PBs down.

Well done Mary, love learning from all your advice. Few things I’m going to try that you have recommended recently. Stick to 4 days a week running, aim for 20,000 steps a day/brisk walking on non running days. Go to the track for the speed sessions. Hoping this will help my next block of marathon training!

Congratulations Mary! I knew you would do it...especially after watching Ben's video. He had a gleam in his eye that kind of gave it away. It's great to hear about you not going all out at every race, as it's something I still struggle with. I guess it's linked with impostor syndrome where you feel like you have something to prove every single time. Anyone, so very happy for your new achievement and excited to follow the next step!🎉

Congratulations. For me this was way easier than runinng a sub20 5k or a sub40 10k. Once that barrier was broken I brought the HM down to a 1:27 and getting sub90s in 4 out of 5 races. 10k and 5k came later that year as kind of a byproduct. Last year was first year where I also didn't race everything all-out. It really helped with top performances, mentality and overall mileage.
