Although the Lightning is still more efficient in it's use of electrons overall, and the Pro base, which offers more creature inclusions than the 4WT at almost $30,000 less, Silverado EV is the leader when it comes to overall range, charging speed, and towing capabilities. What are your thoughts, and which electric truck are you either driving or considering? Let me know in the comments below!

If I was in the market for a pickup, Lightning would be my choice, just based on the widely reported and much remarked smooth and quiet ride. And the V2L features! If I won the lottery, a Lightning would be my very first purchase, just for the Pro Power alone. A complete no-brainer. I'd buy one to drive, and one just to use as (portable) stationary storage at home.

@@davidmenasco5743 If you're towing or driving long distances, the Silverado ev offers lots of benefits. For your use case, the Lightning wins hands down. It's great value for the price. The Pro is now available for retail instead of just for fleet. Maybe just a small lottery win? 🙂 Thanks for commenting & the support, David!

It doesn't really matter what they come out with in the future. I'm staying with my lightning platinum. It has never let me down for anything that I've wanted it to do. Being an electrician, I've installed my own 13 kwh solar system and for the past 2 months have paid for any electricity for either my home or for my truck. And already having a generator receptical installed at my main panel, I now don't even need to run my generator to power my home after several cloudy days. I just run a dropcord to the 240 30 amp receptical in the bed of my truck and connect it to my existing generator receptical to charge my solar batteries and run my home. Limited power usage, of course, but none the less never without power. When the sun comes out, I start charging my truck back up to 90% recommended by Ford. Bottom line if I had to depend on public chargers, I wouldn't have purchased my lightning or any other electric vehicle for that matter.

I still think lighting is much better truck. more features cheaper price, if you really want to tow long distance get a Cummins ( i have a ram 3500 ). They also gave me 40k on my kona electric.. for some reason ha-ha so i was out door with my 2023 ford lighting plat for 44k all in. cant beat that sorry Silverado!

In my pinned comment, I speak of the value built into the Lightning. I'm of a similar mind in preference, but the Silverado ev is a better deal, more efficient, and much better than living with a diesel IMHO. All good food for thought though. And holy crap, did you ever score! Nicely done!

What a great deal! I've heard several stories of great deals on the Lightning. I think it's in a phase now where production is high, but the incredible value is underappreciated, so definitely time to buy if you need a truck. I suppose battery costs could drop, but I'm not sure there will be such good deals available once word of mouth increases the demand for these. Dealers will want their extra cut, as soon as they see demand increase.

There are Rivians and Cybertrucks all over the place - in beautiful colors, and at a stoplight, you might see five Teslas lined up in a row. In a fifteen minute drive, you might see fifteen different models of EV. It could make for some interesting footage.

One thing I got with my lightning that I love , that even ford doesn't offer anymore are my massaging seats. Very nice. I also got the charger included in the price of my truck along with the 80 amp charger from sunrun. Both of which are now add-ons at relatively high prices. In fact about all I didn't get with my truck was retractable running boards and front seats that fold flat, neither of whick i would want anyway. A beautiful paint that's also no longer available, Smoked Quartz Metallic. I love that color, now discontinued.

@WildernessGuyBC GM press announcement stated last week the 2025 start of production for the LT trim is Sept 3rd. The Optional LT Premium package (RPO code XTF) will include the mid-gate. LT trim will only come in a 20 module battery (EPA 393 miles) but it should be under $80k USD with RPO XTF. It has not been announced when availability in Canada will be. Five new exterior colors plus the return of white and black have been announced for the LT trim. (LT trim will have black interior only like 2024 RST w/heated and ventilated seats standard) In the US the ordering books for dealerships should open up any day now. If you have a reservation for the Silverado EV you should be on the look out for this trim. Also a 2025 2WT, 5WT and 8WT was announced but no pricing or battery size information was included. The 3WT and 4WT will not return in 2025. Production of the 2025 trail boss trim will not start in September (it is delayed).

I just completed my 2 and half week RV trip from Ontario to Nova Scotia and back with my Silverado EV RST, Could not have asked for a better EV for towing, I was about to go 405km on 94% of the battery and it said it still had 32km left.

Wow! When did you get it? I have contacted over a dozen Chevy dealers, and all of them tell me the Silverado EVS still aren't available. Mike is driving a 4WT; you're driving an RST, and my reservation was in two years ago and I've heard nothing but crickets! WTF is up with Chevy? Don't they want sales? I can only imagine how sweet that ride was! Have you heard anything from Chevy or aftermarket providers about a canopy to turn that midgate drop into a camping rig? Thanks for the feedback, insight and comment, Brandon!

@truckedupevs I think I was the first in Ontario to get the RST, and saw someone 2 days ago that bought one. I think Ontario has got them before other provinces because of being so close to Michigan where they are built. I had put my reservation in 30 seconds after it opened, 2 and half years ago. I know of 4 dealerships in ontario that have gotten their first RST this week. And maybe 8 to 10 more that will be getting theirs by the end of September.

I was watching your drive with the Silverado EV. Too expensive for me, the range is just not necessary for me. The range issue brings back memories of when I was on the Ballard Fuel Cell Bus Project. At a Steering Committee Meeting BC Transit asked if our bus could match the range of the diesel busses at 600-700 Km. We said NO, but that we could match the distance that their longest route did in a day at 250 Km. At my age and from observing others, driving on the highway for more than 2 hours without a stop is something I seldom do and most other people I know are similar. So a range of 2 hours is good for me. If I am driving alone I can be up and going in 20-25 minutes, does not matter whether ICE or BEV. If I am traveling with family this balloons to an hour or an hour and a half. Do not know why, it just does. One of my oldest friends has noticed the same. So for general driving charge time to refuel time does not effect things too much. I was interested in the charging performance. The Silverado did not out perform the Lightning by all that much. My feeling is that these enormous chargers are being throttled during peak hours. I am not convinced that these will become widespread as the amount of power to operate them is very high and current power generation does not have the capacity. It takes so long in this country, and the US as far as I know, to get approval for new power plants I just do not see a large roll out of 350 Kw chargers. If you are a proponent of EV's charging 7 vehicles at 50Kw is more favourable than 1 at 350 Kw. My guess is 150 to 250 is going to be the norm.
@truckedupevs3 ай бұрын
Wow, excellent input, Bob - as always. Mike hadn't had his first OTA on the truck nor did he set in his destination, which automatically preconditions the battery. A day after I left, he sent me several videos where he was charging not only at 350 kw, but above it - consistently. The only throttling in the case of the Silverado was being conducted by the truck. With that said, I think a range of 150-250 kw is a sweet spot, but innovation drives more innovation, and I did see a growing number of 'hyper' chargers either already being installed or under construction. Until we get to a saturation point above 50~75% of new vehicle sales being evs, we will have zero energy bottleneck, as is the case in Scandinavian countries. Like cloths dryers and air conditioners before them, the grid infrastructure adapts to the demand. I have decided that massive battery packs are not the way to go for my use case either, but if I decide to start doing some serious towing on my channel, that might change. The answer, I think, is not the chargers but the design and location of the stations. The next few years will be exciting times. I can't wait to see how things unfold! Again, my sincerest thanks for your support of the channel, Bob.

well crap, now I'm starting to wonder how much I'd get in trade value for my lightning...
@truckedupevs3 ай бұрын
Looks like you're pretty safe, Colin. Currently, according to Donut Media, the Lightning has the best resale value out of any ev in N. America. Again, use case. One thing the video didn't have time to point out (follow-up coming) is the 4WT is not even on par with options & comforts as the Pro, but $30Cdn more in price. So, there's that. Also, even with all that aerodynamics, it's about a 1/4 as efficient as the Lightning, which means you'll pay more for every mile driven. But if you want range, faster charging speed, and better towing options, it's the current leader.
@marosjerabek17793 ай бұрын
Depends on where you are. I got my XLT in BC Canada for $70k, and the cheapest one on the used market is offered for $64k with 58,000km on it, so still sitting pretty! It's the Lariats and Platinums that got hit hard.
@darpompie43543 ай бұрын
Its all about use case... I waited for the Silverado to come out before making my decision and after intensely looking at both, I just purchased a platinum lightning for 85k CAN. Other than range and DC charging speed, I found the lightning superior in every way for the price. In my case, I rarely ever go long distances and always charge at home (which ford included a 100amp charging station). Also Canada is so far behind on charging stations. You are lucky to find 50kw charging station and if you manage to find a 350kw one, that is the peak speed. As you see, it drops to a similar speed to the lightning after a quick burst. Maybe in 10 years from now, 350kw chargers will be the norm. In the mean time, Silverado's will be charging at the same rate that my lightning is charging at but take much much longer due to the large battery. Also to note, If you add the tow package to the ford, that adds an extra cooling loop. the lightning would have maintained the 150kw rate all the way up to 80%. As I said, it's all about use case and personal preference looks wise. But you are going to give up a lot of creature comforts and money to get that bit of extra range and charging speed that you won't be able to take advantage of for many, many years. Before selling your lightning, I would go take a good look at the Silverado first so you can see what you are getting for your money.
@truckedupevs3 ай бұрын
Fantastic evaluation, Dar! I agree with so many of your points. After sitting in one of these and spending two days with one, Chevy did a great job, but the Pro is even better from a feature/fit and finish/ interior design perspective, for $30k less! However, In Part Two my Trucked Up Stop drive into northern BC (kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIDSkqCIhN5_mdE), I found 350kw chargers in Hope, Merritt, Kamloops, Quesnel and Prince George, so no, we won't be waiting as long to charge at those higher speeds. Chevy and Ford both will have access to Tesla's Superchargers, so again, higher charging speeds will very soon be ubiquitous. However, on that note, and after a phone call yesterday from GM regarding my RST order and the potential to own one soon, I'm leaning back to replacing my std-range Lightning with an Ext. range '24 Flash, Lariat, or Platinum, depending on what deal I can get. Thank you for contributing some excellent insight and supporting the channel!

In the Out of Spec cross country road trip from Florida to California, the CT did very well. So far, it is outperforming the Lightning in sales, just as it can do in road tripping. I'm a Lightning fan myself, but the idea that the Cybertruck is no good is just baloney. According to the reviews from experienced EV reviewers, it drives great, and road trips better than Lightning and Rivian. Does it meet all the hype? Not quite. But hype is just hype.
