Thank you so much for sharing this info, and congratulations on your purchase - proving beyond a doubt that EV trucks are very affordable (and, in some cases cheaper than ICE trucks)! Liked and subscribed. Your Rivian critique was, however, harsh. They can't service what they're too small to get to. The "zip code effect" we call in the states may be at play, where Rivian sees a yuppy demographic, but still, to survive the company has to go where its customers densely populate. I liked your practical take. Availability, price, range, efficiency separate these trucks by a wide margin (the BYD Shark w/b even wider). You needed yours soon perhaps, but also the Ramcharger and likely to come, other, EREV trucks sound exactly like they may suit. For me, the Flash ranks high but Ford hasn't been great when it comes to supporting electrification. I'd rather the same truck from a different maker, but, again, the differences among trucks are so vast it tends up a practical decision. Well done!

What a great post! Thank you for subscribing! Yes, it was harsh, but here's to my point. I just met a wonderful gentleman & his wife in Yoho National Park, BC, travelling in his newly-acquired Rivian R1T he waited over 4 years to purchase because there was no Rivian centre in Montreal. Once there was, he bought & proceed to drive across Canada into some more remote locations, which is what all Rivian owners will do, since that's how Rivian packaged & marketed it. You're right. It's not fair to judge such a limited start-up trying to do big things - but this limited sales envelop will not only hurt their sales, which they now need desperately, the logistics won't work anyway. When the control arm or suspension fails, it will be up a mountain pass in the middle of nowhere, and not in downtown L.A. There. My somewhat weak argument for being a dick 😜😀

I think you are missing the point that some truck owners actually tow with their truck. The SO Hurricane engine is only providing 425hp with the HO expected to be just over 500hp- the RamCharger is supposed to have almost 650hp and over 600 torque. If those specs are legit, the power is there to haul a trailer or camper long distances. That will be the appeal to new buyers.

Hey there here is a topic suggestion. The Bluecruise subscription on my Ford Lightning Flash is just about to expire. I am curious about what will happen with lane keeping when it expires. In other words what is the difference between with subscription and without subscription. Thanks for the great content!
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 4 күн бұрын
Hi NIls. Thanks as always for your comments & support! Blue Cruise is far more advanced than adaptive cruise and lane keeping. For one, lane keeping requires you to continue to hold the steering wheel, and is not actually tracking mapping like Blue Cruise. So, that's all you will lose. When your subscription expires, you'll still have lane keeping assist and Adaptive Cruise. It's far more useful than I thought it would be, but I am about to use Blue Cruise on my cross-Canada trip for the first time. Where I live there are no Blue Cruise-mapped highways so I almost exclusively use Adaptive Cruise and sometimes lane keeping. I'll be able to comment more once I really test and compare the two in more detail. I hope this helps a little. Keep in touch!

It's already been tested. Seems to operate more efficiently than resistive heating to about -10F & then starts to level out to an equal energy draw. Keep in mind that unlike heat pumps in a home, these have a heat variable from the batteries and coolant rather than exclusively beholden to the outside atmosphere. I've now owned both heating methods, so I'll be able to look at my #s once we get down to those cold snaps this winter. Should be interesting! Thanks for the comment!

Yea but what about the blood minerals required to build these EV vehicles not the power plants required to power them?
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 12 күн бұрын
Really? You didn't actually make that comment while somehow overlooking the amount of blood money, mining, effluent output, contamination globally, and child exploitation that has gone into the movement of vehicles via fossil fuels? And did you type that from your 'blood mineral' cell phone or laptop, which account for 30% of all global cobalt use, the mineral you're referring to, or overlook the fact that more ev manufacturers such as Ford are restricting where their battery minerals come from and are only sourcing from ethical production, or the fact that almost 30% of all ev batteries produced today use NONE of the minerals you refer to, instead using LFP chemistry? No, I guess you didn't think about any of that because you just grabbed some recycled, old FUD you read online somewhere and posted it without checking if it was factual first. Wilful ignorance. It's a powerful tool for the gullible.

Electric trucks are pointless, the range just isn’t there when you factor in 20% to 80% state of charge operation. Just get a Cummins diesel.
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 13 күн бұрын
That's a pretty broad, rather meaningless statement. It's like saying motorcycles are pointless because they have only two wheels. Almost 90% of all truck owners in North America have no use for a diesel, or anything beyond 40 miles a day, which makes an EV truck a perfect use case, never using fast chargers because everyone is waking up to a full truck every morning. Over 85% of owners of pickups never tow or haul, and the average American drives more than 200 miles less than four times a year. So yeah, no. Diesels are absolutely pointless beyond work applications, which most diesel pickups are never used for.
@user-qp4ox8le5o
@user-qp4ox8le5o 13 күн бұрын
@@truckedupevs I've owned a Tesla Model 3 for 6 years and waited 4 years to get a Cybertruck but due to its limited range decided to buy a Cummins diesel for half the price of a Cybertruck. You do realize that at least with Teslas you're not supposed to go below 20% battery on a regular basis and also you're not supposed to charge past 80% either, right? So your effective range is only 60% of it's "EPA estimated" range. I definitely drive more than 40 miles a day on most weekends and having to spend time at a charging station is not my idea of a fun weekend. I guess if I never left my urban area an electric truck would work just fine. Oh well, to each his own.
@truckedupevs
@truckedupevs 12 күн бұрын
@@user-qp4ox8le5o Sounds like a diesel makes a lot of sense for your application. As far as your EPA assessment, not exactly. The battery chemistry determines the charging cycle. LFPs can e charged to 100% consistently. NMCs should not be charged CONSISTENTLY to 100% or drained below 10~20%, but there is no problem in doing so when required, which is how they're designed, and fits with most driving habits. I ran a diesel with the company I worked for. We averaged $160 Cdn per 500 km (300miles). I then ran a Ranger with my own company for six years, averaging $120 for the same mileage. When I switched to the Lightning XLT, that dropped to $12. Pure economics for me. Maintenance on those ICE trucks was costly. I have yet to pay a dime for my EV trucks other than tire rotations. Like you said, to each his own.

@truckedupevs 13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment Stan. Yes you're missing what you've already noted: 150km of range in addition to all the bells and whistles, better interior, full pro power onboard, and piles of others. The Flash is right below the Lariat ER for a lot less. The Pro does not give you the option of the extended range in Canada. If it did, it would exceed the qualifying cap for the incentive. Right now, only the SR Pro & XLT qualify both provincially and federally. Also, if Ford's employee pricing is still in effect, I don't think the spread is $21k, but I could be wrong. As you likely know from my video on the Pro, it was my 1st choice originally. Dollar for dollar, nothing even comes close, but it has its limitations. If those aren't an issue for you, and if you can get it that low on the $ side, I'd jump all over it myself if I didn't need the range for the channel antics.

Another high point is that you can charge the lightening at 19.2kW at home vs only 11.5kW for the Cybertruck. However, fortunate Europeans with 3-phase electric and EVs equipped with 415V onboard AC chargers are fueling up at whopping 22kW at home. Come on North America! Any EV with an above average size batteries should have an onboard 240V 80A 19.2kW AC charger so you can add 60% charge from 20% to 80% within just few hours when you’re in a hurry and don’t want to go to a fast charger. At 11kW, you’re looking at several hours of charge time on the bigger battery of the Cybertruck or Model X.

The Lightning can't do that unless you install the Ford Charge Station Pro, which used to come free with the extended range but they dumped it for 2024, now costing $1,800 for the unit, a few more thousand to the electrician since it then needs the house upgraded to allow for the Intelligent Back-up Power feed to the home in power outages. Pet issue of mine. I have the Lightning Lariat which came with the Ford Pro charger, @ 80 amps or 19.2KW. The truck phone app has never indicated more 17.1KW being added to the truck. I have an additional Grizzl-E 80 amp charger at another location, same results. Also, in order to get the max charge of 80 amps, it requires a 100 amp dedicated breaker in the panel. Most homes have a maximum of 200 amps service for the entire house, plus no device on a home can use more than 80 amps by code. In short, very small slice of users can actually get the 80 amps to charge. The US standard will not allow 3 phase in residential use, only commercial. Also, any device that has a plug to provide power is limited to 40 amps max, which is 80% of the 50amp plug. We have a Tesla too, with a 48 amp wall connector. Installing these are in sand box.

@@garryrooks3413 that’s good feedback about your Lightening not getting the advertised 19kW charge rate. What does Ford say about it?? Side note, 19.2kW is peak 240V X 80A. 240V US is really 235V +-5V. So, real world charging is more like 234V X 79.99A = 18.7kW-ish. Not that it’s much consolation.

@@garryrooks3413 Yes, it's a valid point, Garry. It seems it's more of a marketing ploy in the inflating of the numbers. Hey, thanks for the comment and feedback. Yes, he has a habit to destroy vehicles on his channel deliberately, and that's why he gets so many views. Still, I think it should be be pointed out that Whistlin' Diesel did do these things to BOTH vehicles. In fact, with this very argument that you and thousands of others have made, he did a follow-up video and exposed the ford F150 to the exact same conditions times a factor of ten to the bumper hitch, and it easily help up. The CT has had four cited cases with towing where not only the hitch broke off, but the frame itself, which is irreparable. I am of the mind that this is a design flaw, and a recall will eventually occur. How to fix it? Who knows. Because I plan to do a lot more towing with the channel in the future, I can't risk my $ on the CT yet. Tesla had over four years to make this work and CT is still looking like it is pre-production. The Lightning has had very few problems since its roll-out - but nothing to the degree the CT has experienced. I'm like you. I weighed it all in and ended up with a Flash in my driveway. As you stated, people have no idea how big the Lightning's battery is. Take, for example, a typical "large" 12 volt deep cycle battery of 110 Amp hours. That's 1320 watt hours, or 1.32 kilowatt hours. The Lightning extended range battery is 100 times that size. Questions related to that -- is that on all F-150's or just the Lightning; and how much is it extra to add the spare? Also, doesn't surprise me, but there has been no word of NACS for '25. Probably won't show up until '26....maybe. Anyway, my family loves our '23 Lightning; still waiting on the free NACS adapter that seems to be forever delayed.

Yes, it's out of the range (hehe) of many truck folk, but still, with the mid-ate & the massive battery I can see GM justifying some of that price, but not all of it. The fit and finish for a $100k+ truck isn't there. I was close, but I'll wait to see how things develop over the course of the next year or two. Thanks for the comment!

Make sure you have a 20kw generator in the bed to fuel it when you can’t find a working charging station and have a few hours to just sit there. Oh wait that means you have to use gas😂😂😂Lol.

Lol😂😂😂 I guess you like many others are just finding out that an electric “truck” isn’t really a truck at all 😂😂😂. I have a 2023 F350 lariat Tremor with the high output 6.7 diesel and when I was asked why by my wife I said first to shut up and don’t question me then I told her because if I am getting a truck I want the biggest and best one available. The only reason I didn’t get the F450 is because they only make it in a dually and I wanted a fleet side. There is nothing my truck can’t do as a truck. EV vehicles are great for strictly city driving, short trips and maybe buying mulch at Home Depot but nothing more. The only reason Ford and Chevy did it was because of government mandates and they are just sitting on the lots now getting lot rot because nobody wants them. I paid 101,000.00 US dollars cash deal, special ordered it and waited 8 months. Worth every penny, puts a smile on my face every time I climb in and hear that massive diesel start up.

@@armedprophet3321 And you continue paying the $75+ per week for fuel so that you can haul more than mulch every once in a while.

@@Bryan-jz4fn Hmmmm that’s funny because actually it’s only about 35 dollars every two weeks. I fill up when I am 1/4 tank low when I am just putzing around but wait until 3/4 tank low when I actually go on long drives. But my time is worth way more than just wasting it at a charging station for hours. You EV people absolutely kill me 😂😂😂

Great video. Real useful details you provide with the specs on the various trucks and trims. Do you have to be a Ford employee to get the employee discount?

Thanks for the feedback. No, you don't. If that were the case, I couldn't have purchased it for the price that I did (and would likely have made more of an effort to see if I could have bought the Silverado EV RST). Every now and then Ford does an 'Employee Pricing Event' and they offer customers the same prices that Ford employees get. It's never shown up on EVs before, so I was blown away when I found out the Lightning qualified. I have no affiliation with Ford, nor do I receive any kind of financial benefit, incentive, or sponsorship. KZbin requires that anything like that has to be disclosed. The advertisements are still running on KZbin (that's how I found out), but I have no idea how long Ford does the promo. Lastly, I'm in Canada so not sure if the same is offered in other countries. I hope this helps.

Real world charging on the 2024 Flash has been documented all the way to 175kw. It does not stay there too long, but the charging curve is not bad.

Thanks Paul! Yeah, I just my own unscientific test at a 200kw Chevron station, and it hit 173 but stayed there for about 8 minutes. The nice thing was how gradually it slowed the rate to 80%, where it continued at 60kw.
