Dir en Grey have quickly become my favorite band of all time shortly after discovering them. And Kyo (vocalist) also became my favorite vocalist because of his many different ranges and techniques he applies to various songs. Hella recommend you check out more of their stuff. And the real good shit is their live performances just like this one displays. They're insanely talented.

Yep Dir en Grey been touring since the late 90’s. I seen them live in 2002 and was blown away.

I am late to the party but Thank You for reacting to Dir en grey :) This was great to watch and listen to. Like many people in the comments already wrote Dir en grey were and are very influencial, but of course they were influenced by a lot of bands and artists as well! Bands like BUCK-TICK, X Japan, The Stalin, AION, Gastunk, Strawberry Fields and Kuroyume inspired the members to become musicians themselves. Kyo [lyrics and vocals] further named Dolores O'Riord [The Cranberries], Genet [Auto-Mod], George Michael and Hiroshi Mikami [among many others] as vocal influences and you can see his admiration for punk in his performances. For those he drew inspiration from S.O.D., Dead Kennedys and G.B.H [in addition to the already named domestic bands above]. More recently he named early Madonna as an influence to the sound in sukekiyo. But he also gets inspired by movies, especially those from Alejandro Jodorowsky and Horror movies. For his lyrics he often draws inspiration from the news. Die [guitar on the right] was influenced by Antonio Carlos Jobim, D'ERLANGER, Fair to Midland, Korn, The Mad Capsule Markets and many others, Kaoru [lead guitar on the left] also named Zi:Kill, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Pantera, Dead End, Jane's Addiction and Japan as influencial. Toshiya [Bass] got inspiration from The Prodigy, Pixies, Depeche Mode, Deftones and David Bowie [among others - he said in an interview once that playing overseas has changed his approach to playing bass entirely, so he learned new techniques etc. by watching his colleques during Family Values and Festivals they played mainly in Europe and America] Shinya [drums] is inspired mostly by Yoshiki from X Japan. He's actually not the biggest fan of metal and listens to different music in his own time + he plays so differenty from anyone in the genre that it's impossible to guess who he might have been influenced by besides Yoshiki ^^'' I would really love to see you react to sukekiyo some day. Just a quick correction: Dir en Grey have been around since 1997... so Madman's Espirit would have been inspired by Dir En Grey.

Love it! VINUSHKA is a great choice for first time listener. This live was exceptionally emotional, Kyo (the vocalist) as always managed to draw out their audiences' reactions in just the right way. The clips in the background were about Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombing which were also shown in the music video (and it got banned in Japanese TV, IIRC). If you ever plan to react to another song of DIR EN GREY, I recommend MACABRE from In-Situ Tabula Rasa live performance. It's a song they created back in 2000 and was remade in 2013. They performed the 2013 version in Tabula Rasa and it was simply amazing. You might want to check it out 😉

Great choice - I remember that years ago i got deeply traumatised by the MV of this song - the main theme was about the atomic bomb dropped in Japan during WW2. Hyde goes to their live quite often I heard. Fun fact is that Hyde holds the record of performing the most in zepp Tokyo, and dir en grey sits 3rd place.
