The more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. There’s something new to discover on each listen. The production is fantastic, the guitar tones are great, and the lyrics are, in my opinion, the best out of any of his solo work. Hearing him playing god solos at 78 years old and imagining him in the studio with the headphones on is just BADASS.

Like all other Pink Floyd Albums, sometimes you have to listen to it several times before you can appreciate the music. By the 3rd listen, David Gilmour and his guitar was able to bring out my inner emotions. I cried and felt deeply in love with his music and love affair he has with his wife and the love for his children. It’s a completely new side of David that we never heard from before. At times I felt like I was in a French coffee shop. I’m in love with this album.

Agreed. I haven't heard this one all the way through yet but I doubt it will be better than his first solo album. I expect it to rank either before or after Rattle That Lock as number 2. The studio version of On An Island for me was a bit too serene as far as production goes. If we're talking OAI in the live setting, it's in the running for his best solo album. About Face did very little for me. It seemed like it didn't know if it wanted to be a a straight pop album or still feel like a Floyd album. It had some highlights like Murder or Let's Get Metaphysical. Near the End is good, too. Beyond that, though...

Its an almost 80 years old guitar player album, super chill, super mature, yes it have some passages that resemble floyd or his other solo albums. Better or Best than TDSOM or other floyd albums or the "Gilmour era" albums? Dont know... Its other way of aproaching music, it seems that he is a little bit sick about playing floyd and that he want to play other kind of music, more personal, mature (talking about real age) more dedicated to an artistic point of view, yet so simple but never boring, relaxing, friendly to the hering. I dont thibk that comparing this álbum with the floyd ones or the others from his solo creer its adecuated. Make a diferent aproach, musically its besutiful, catchy, a album to sit and drink some nice cup of tea when thinking about the older days, the golden age now being a almost 80 years old guy that have created and performed the most besutiful and spatial pieces of music on his prime time. I think musically, the Album is okay. The best song is the one sung by his daughter "Between Two Points", and that is a cover (check out The Montgolfier Brothers version) but the lyrics of all the other songs are awful. They just don't make any sense, they sound like ramblings, rather than a story. I am so glad that I have Apple Music, so I didn't go out and buy this and then be stuck with another album I don't listen to. I think his guitar playing on the album is first rate, although, some of the backing parts seem like they have been copied and pasted from The Division Bell, with him soloing over the top with a different solo. I do also think there is some lazy bass playing on some of the tracks, that just seem a little off with the groove of the songs. I would list which ones, but I wasn't taking notes when I listened to it on Friday. All in all, my opinion is my opinion, and I am sure that other will disagree with me, but I give it 9 out of 10 for the solos and Romany's track, everything else (except the lyrics) a 4, and the lyrics wouldn't even get a 1. Sorry David.

When Floyd have created timeless epics for decades, obviously it's going to be very hard to match or go beyond that! With pink Floyd music it is an acquired taste and there will be one day that the songs you couldn't relate to will tear your heart out when you least expect it. So I say listen with an open mind and try not to relate your guitar prowess with anything you are hearing. As we all know, music transcends beyond experienced musicians and often it's musicians that can't relate to simplicity and beauty. I'd much rather have an album like his self titled album in 1978 or on an island, but who's going to make the music? There's only Gilmour and he's almost 80. His wife definitely will not help with the music. So they're trying to give a "complete package" if I should say, rather than musically amazing album. The title track on this album is extremely good because Rick is there, with the music.

@@mustyguitar Gilmour was the one who did not involve Rick to the recordings of A Momentary Lapse of Reason. Later on he was convinced to have Rick back for the tour after Rick’s wife had talked with Gilmour. Peoples expectations should remember his age. This album is ok, but it kind of sinks beneath the waves. The last song is good.. Every guitar solo is the same and all the licks are the same. The producer hasn't pushed Gilmour to to produce anything memorable on the guitar, it's pretty poor. Gilmour has always been very, very lazy and needs pushing and cajoling, especially on guitar. Maybe Ezin would have made a difference, who knows, maybe this producer was just letting him be an old fella, and that's ok I guess. I'd fricken hate that. One thing is for sure, without his name and legacy, this album would not have seen the surface.

Is that even possible without Roger? he said that, not me, I'm just reacting to his words.
Best since Dark Side? I give this one a solid 5 on the "Zero to Division Bell" scale . . if considering only his solo works it's nowhere near "On an Island". That said though I'm happy to have this music and going forward will just listen to it on its own merits, minus the comparisons 🤎🎸🎶

Yeah music comparisons are totally waste of time.

The album is his worst album. He should have retired with Rattle That Lock. I recently re-evaluated Roger’s last album and it is better than this snoozer. He is not Dennis DeYoung who went out with his best solo albums ever.

Wow I had absolutely no idea David was still working on music. Thought him selling his guitar collection was the last time he'd be playing a guitar.

Gilmour forgot to take his medicine...you can't say so many stupid things.
