Vince Gill wrote this for his brother who had died. I lost my twin brother to kidney disease on Sept 1st 2018., they played this song at his funeral. Then I lost my oldest brother July 3rd 2020 to cancer. He also had a twin, my sister Terri. This original is the best in my opinion. Thank you so much for posting this and your raw and heartfelt emotions. I have the same reaction every time I hear it.

This song has been played A LOT at funerals here in rural America. Particularly this original version. My mom has told me multiple times that she wants the played at hers. I refused to relisten to this song for years because of the thought of that request.
