This is the grace of music. It touches us. It makes us feel. My sister had this song played at her husband's funeral over 20 years ago & I am still not able to hear this song without getting choked up. It's a beautiful song. Vince had wrote the first verse for Keith Whitley which was a singer and song writer which we lost in 1989 from alcohol poisoning, Thus the song. I'm no stranger to the rain. And the second verse was about his brother who had passed away.

Girl I'm so sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I lost mine 3 years ago too , She was my everything, no matter what was wrong she always made me feel hopeful , and if I had done wrong she would chastise me in a way where I I was wrong but still loved and able to receive forgiveness but also to never deny someone else of it . We were so close and I had to bury her on my birthday.

@@MarshasWorld my husband said something to me on the day we buried her that helped me so much, he said Chenelle ( my name ) today you have a reason to mourn but if you think about it there is another way to look at this , he said, you and your mamaw share a day now , its your birthday and today is that your mamaw has just began her eternal life in Glory where she will feel the suffering pains of this world, and death is only for a season ,and we'll all be together in heaven, no more tears , no more sorrow and no more sad goodbyes. That helped me so much and still does . I'll bet our mamaws are up there now talking with each other lol, talking about us 🧡💛

My condolences for your loss. It pains me to see any woman cry, especially a Beautiful soul like you young Lady. We played this on a loop during my brother's viewing. I still miss my big brother and this song helps me in healing. Country music along with Blues share their roots in Gospel music and Vince's song is terrific example. I can relate to losing G-ma. For me it was my first encounter with death at 21. Living in San Francisco, I raced to the ocean with a rose of tribute. How I managed to fly to Nebraska two days later for her funeral I have no idea. I just knew I had to be there, not only for her but for my dad. Love you Grandma Wabs.

The song is very beautiful. It was written for the death of a treasured loved one. It has been played at countless funerals since. One granddaughter to another, mine has been gone for 30 yrs. I don’t think about it every day, but sometimes, out of nowhere, it will still reach up and hit me in the gut. And sometimes it’s a beautiful, sad song like this that does it. You’ll never not miss her, but it won’t always take your breath away every day. Sometimes you’ll be glad of that “gut punch”. It means she’s never really left you.
