Great job Ken! I like the trial and error techniques. Nothing wrong with the Braze joints as long as they hold! Cap tubes can plug up, Just be careful when cutting them so you do not create more of an orifice. Throw one of those heat rags in front of the wires next time where your brazing. It would be nicer to check yet charge in a little bit more warmer of an environment. Other than that it seems like a job well done 👍. Anytime I’m working on a system especially with a TXV I always install a psych glass since I like to see what’s going on in the system just like you did there. I consider it a good piping practice. Have a good day. 👍

I ended up just buying the cutter for uri, man it makes the world of difference cutting cap tubes. As for the wires, yea I got lazy and thought I had them covered with a wet rag, still got them. It’s ok. I should have replaced it when I had it apart for the restoration, just now I had to do it lol. As for the charge, could always crank the little reznor in the garage up but Sunday should be plenty warm enough to see where it falls.

@@kenb1918 - Cap tubes should be cut with a Triangular file or that specific Cap Tool cutter. Yeah the wires it does happen on the job quite often. Reznor. I installed a Trane gas heater for my neighbors 3 car garage. I installed a heat pump “Freebie” on my garage. I’m working on my 99 ford Ranger tonight. It needs inspected.

Nice! It's a nice idea to have a constant bypass, with lower flow than the TXV will ever pass, to allow the system to equalize between cycles. It's elegant because it's totally passive and doesn't require power. How many HP is that Tecumseh? Another question - are those Sporlan TXV easy to adjust the superheat on?

I think this pancake is in the 3/4 hp range due the unit being 8,000 btus. As for the sporlan valves-I wouldn’t put any other brand in my own unit. They are very easy to make adjustments to, simply take the bottom cap off and boom there’s the stem.

That 2 pole pancake compressor sounds beautiful. What year and btu is that unit?
