IDLES is my absolutely favorite band for a couple years now, especially with their new album Crawler, they're AMAZING. They really stand out to me from most bands right now! And they sound exactly the same, if not better, live!!! They're just incredibly talented, I could go on and on
@SteveBjorck3 жыл бұрын
Idles are incredible. Technically better than they sound, great song writing and amazing live - they also seem to be absolutely beautiful people. Seeing them cry on stage at Glastonbury was a truly wonderful moment that had me in tears. It's very subjective but I consider them the best "protest" band since RATM and the world is an infinitely better place because of them.

Now rage for the machine however
@vityamitya63543 жыл бұрын
Public crying is a bloody good way to gauge someone's "beautiful"(ness) (whatever that means). They are also so "protest" so against the establishment that they all come from well established families themselves. RATM: "FUCK THE CAPITALISM!!!" also RATM: "BUUY TICKETS TO OUR SHOWS!!! ITS ONLY 50$!!!"...sooooooooooo authentic. Well i guess its almost 2022 now, all the words have the opposite meaning now

We don't choose our families or where we're born but we can choose what we do with the life we're given. @@avaritiaetsuperbia you've completely twisted what I said and turned it into a weird, white superiority thing. Here's an edited version of my comment which doesn't reference the band's ethnicity or background. "If *people* want to highlight injustice & inequality among the poor and minorities they should be applauded for it not mocked." Maybe that's how I should have worded it originally but I only mentioned the band's ethnicity and "class" because someone else used it as a reason for them not to be valid in their beliefs or actions. I did it to make a point that it shouldn't matter - which obviously hasn't translated well. FYI minorities include anyone denied the benefits of "the majority" due to their religious beliefs, disabilities, age, sexual orientation, gender, race or anything else. It's not about white people "saving" anyone. It's about people who "can" supporting people who "can't".

These guys are really fun. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion are one of my favourites from New York. It’s that high energy scream in your face type of thing that’s like my version of going to church. You get a sermon of sorts and you become hypnotized by what’s happening on stage. Some people classify it as post punk but to me it’s a genre all on its own. I like it. I like it a lot!

My husband is a huge fan - you've brought him (and I) such joy and helped drag him out of an awful trough of depression a few years back ... so thank you. I know he would love to hear your thoughts on Jeff Buckley's voice. I know. Sadly, his repertoire was cut short and unfortunately the name has become a passe catchphrase for teens who want to sound deep. Sigh. That's okay, too ... at least they're listening to music - and good music at that! For me, I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on My Morning Jacket or Post Malone or Leon Bridges or Empire of the Sun / Pnau. Maybe some of these are falling into the "dad" category. 😬 Thanks for these videos. It's great to see you thoroughly nerding out on the intricacies of the music. It's very refreshing - and educational!

My colleagues often wonder how I'm so chipper of a Monday morning... we'll, it's because I usually wake up feeling like shit and put joy as an act of resistance on full blast as it's the perfect length for my commute. Never fails! Also I don't know if you read comments or take requests, but there's a great london-based band called black country, new road who released an album and a few singles this year. Bit genre defying (have heard them described as "jazz-inflected post-punk"?) and I'd love to know what your take is, because I think they're something a bit special.

Formed in Bristol. My city! I really enjoy this channel. Got a genuine feel to it. No fakery. I liked The Darkness when their songs first came about on MTV etc but never owned their record or delved much deeper than having a mild appreciation of their talent as musicians (always loved the guitar solo melodies'). Since very recently though, after discovering 'Justin Hawkins rides again', I have started taking a keener interest and am pleasently surprised at how much enjoyment their music is giving me. And I've barely scratched the surface. Seen some live stuff on KZbin and they're as good as AC/DC, The Who, Queen, Foo Fighters etc etc. Even as good as Take That's cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit 😉

It's been nice to see a few great newer rock/punk/etc bands getting some popular attention lately. It does feel like rock music is rebounding in a way with even a lot of pop and hip hop artists incorporating rock elements into their music more and more. As far as rock bands that you might want to check out if you haven't already: For punk/punk leaning stuff there's Turnstile, Parquet Courts, PUP, Iceage, Squid, Fontaines DC, and Shame. For garage/psych and hard rock type stuff there's King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Thee Oh Sees, Sheer Mag, Ty Segall, and Japandroids. For a bit of everything else under the rock umbrella right now there's experimental rock bands like black midi, Black Country New Road, and Tropical Fuck Storm, there's some experimental metal/alternative as well like Deafheaven, Baroness, or Alcest, and even some traditional heavy metal bubbling up like Pallbearer, Eternal Champion, Spirit Adrift, and Unto Others. It's an exciting time to be a rock fan I think because it feels like we might be moving back to an age where guitar plays a more central role in popular music. Still a ways to go yet though!
