in this video I got tired of the stock jackshafts breaking so I put on an old torque converter I had laying around. in hindsight I probably should've waited on putting the torque converter on because the predator 212 engine is smoking and I think I hear rod knock. the next video you'll see on this will be me trying to fix the issues.

Nothing wrong with your video. A lot of guys would just save up and get a new engine. I would open it up and see what it would take to repair it. The rod knock is one thing, but the smoking could get more interesting and be the deciding factor on whether to get a new engine or not. With the condition of your jackshaft it looks like you get a lot of ride time. Good for you. When I put torque converters on my bikes the jackshafts were still in very good condition because I don't ride a lot. I will probably never use them again.

Yeah I know most people would buy a new engine and technically we do have a few other engines around here but im tired of just doing engine swaps for something I know I can fix. The smoking can only be piston rings or valve seals and as old as the engine is I'm pretty sure it's just rings. And now that I don't have a chain tensioner the knocking sounds can really only be rod knock. And the jackshaft is originally to it but those jackshafts are just trash for us. I've replaced so many of those jackshafts on different bike, they're just not made from a hard enough metal. I've never really done a build on one of those engines before so instead of replacing it I want to try to fix and do a build on it. Hopefully I can get parts for it a little cheaper than usual cause I only got about $150 left to spend on it and I need a rod and piston rings

@@thecrittercage8255 Agree. Another thing to look for when you tear it down is the condition of the cylinder. If it's bad enough new rings will not help. There's just too much precision involved for those of us who build in our garages to be honing the cylinder. With a torque converter and stock Coleman gearing you should be able to use a stock rod because you will not be turning high RPM at top speed. The stock rod can handle it as long as you keep up with oil changes. Engine builds are expensive. I just built another 196 and it was around $300. But I enjoy building them and a little extra power is nice. I don't build for big power and high RPM.

@@Deucealive75 well idk for sure but I'm pretty sure the cylinder walls should be fine. If there is no damage to the top end a decent honing job should be fine. And I want to get billet parts just cause some day I will want to turn more RPMs and put a better cam in it and rod, cam, ratio rockers and flywheel should be all I need. And yeah the torque converter when I put it on new I was able to get up to about 47mph-ish and it went down from there so new rings and rod I should be able to get up to around 50mph-ish

think you put the engine riser on backwards thats why you had so much trouble with the torque converter cover...but it works

That riser plate is supposed to go either way. The bolts are so hard to get to just because it's a off brand cvt and the bolts are as far back as possible

@@jnate331 which one? I have a small Chinese quad and a big Polaris sportsman quad. On my little quad it just needs a new engine and on my Polaris sportsman I've already did as much work on it as I can right now. And my Polaris quad is old enough Polaris don't make anything for it anymore, Polaris don't make anything for stuff over 20 years old anymore

@@thecrittercage8255 the Polaris if cylinder walls are good and rings are properly sealed then it’s in the head . Two strokes are going to smoke a 4 stroke engine should not unless a power adder.

Sorry I was replying about something else. But I’m running a tc for the first time. Always ran the bully style or cheetah clutches. I turn over 9,000 rpm’s on my clutch bikes . Now I’m going to try out tc . Any help is appreciated.

@jnate331 oh well it's my first time with a torque converter as well. I was tuning mine before I found a rod knock in my predator 212. I I get done with a couple of videos I was going to Frankenstein together some of the parts of other engines we have and then get back to playing with my torque converter
