I concur with the other commenters in saying that you definitely should watch the Peacemaker show. It’s about halfway through the limited series run at this point, but there are already signs that he’s questioning his ideology, and there are deeper reasons why he became the character you see in the movie, starting with how he was raised to act and think. The show is also excellently written and acted, with really funny, colorful characters (Vigilante is a hilarious surprise). Give the show a try, and commit to watching every episode. It’s not a long series, but it takes 2 - 3 episodes to start building some character arcs.

I think you should give the Peacemaker show a chance. The reason James Gunn decided to make the show (Gunn wrote all 8 episodes and directed 5 of them) was because he wanted to flesh the character out and make him someone audiences could care for, as that's the thing he felt he couldn't do in the movie. It's not all out yet, so I can't say definitively whether the project will be a success, but he's definitely a charismatic lead so far, and you do empathize and understand his ideals, even when you don't agree with them. Plus, it's all got that same sense of humor the film has. Definitely worth the watch imo.
