As a scholarship student, and friends with all the scholarship students, we are poor enough to be anxious about all the payments. I can relate to her, every adults on uni expect us to understand in advance. Not to mention struggling with classes and mental health.
@Slav_StiibunАй бұрын
The wording on the FAFSA is a bit misleading, once you fill it out so many students believed that the form saying your FAGSA application was accepted so that must mean you got paid. All it meant was your institution received an application.
@eiji862Ай бұрын
There’s plenty of time to submit renewals and applications for financial aid. The system is bullshit because of how expensive everything is. Financial aid is not the problem, the problem is how the loan companies operate. The only real bullshit problem with financial aid is how some of the programs measure who qualifies for their aid. You need to be at a certain level of income to qualify, meaning that if you’re just above it, then you won’t qualify despite the fact that you have no money. Insurance companies and the IRS charge you based on income rather than wealth. Which for the majority of middle class families is complete garbage. The government doesn’t try to differentiate between people barely getting by and people who get to go on vacation every summer. Financial Aid is not that however. And in the state of Maryland, where I reside, our Governor has extended the deadline for Fasfa. Meaning that we now have plenty of time to renew or apply for financial aid. The Financial Aid system is only as hard as you make it for yourself. Just play your cards right and you will be fine for the most part.

And record a voice confirmation. and then insist on a computer printout that matches and confirms the documentation and verbal statement captured in a recording.

They kinda fuck you with conditional shit IRL - we require up front payment - I have government-backed financial aid - that wasn't applied for a 2nd time But no one mentions / mentioned needing to reapply when it's a multi-year thing you're applying to pay for the first time. Like with a bank and a house or a car, it's assumed or understood it's gonna take several years / it's a multi-year thing. With school, they kinda force multiple years, even though, technically, since your whole life is about that 1 thing (school) you could do a 6-year Master's degree's worth of classes and work in 1 year. But the financial side somehow treats it like it's a per year thing, even though (in North America) it's a 4 year thing.

This is a private university. They are a business. The students are their customers. It's not by the people and for the people. It's, "if you cannot pay, then I am not selling." If you are talking about FAFSA--the government financial aid. The renewal is important because people's financial status changes. Each year, she has to provide updated information. Yes, she qualified for four years of financial aid initially. But what if she drops out of school? Or only takes part-time classes? Or takes a semester off? Or dies? Or wins the lottery? The government wants to be aware of all these things before it disperses money for another year of tuition.

This assumes they failed to notify her that the renewal period was coming up rather than them sending her a letter or email, and her ignoring it because she assumes she's already covered. Her initial financial aid package should have also informed her of the need to renew. This is why you always need to read these documents super carefully to make sure you do not miss any important terms of your financial aid.

US is crazy with tuition... but unless you live in poverty, there is NO excuse why you can't save up for your kids' tuition in Canada. Too many kids - that was your choice and your kids should not suffer. If you were able to go on vacations, own a car, have smartphone(s), get lessons for your kids, or anything that your disposable income went towards, it is ABSOLUTELY the parents' or parent's fault for not saving up in Canada. You do NOT need to be rich to learn how to save before/after having kids. You just need to make wise spending and saving choices - so yes, kids, blame your parents. But those whose parents were living in poverty should absolutely get financial aid and it shouldn't have to be difficult.
