I'm very excited about this. This was one of the things that really bothered me when I switched from the iPhone to my Pixel 7 Pro. I ended up buying a Tile, but ended up disappointed because they put the most basic features behind a paywall. These native Find-my Trackers seems to solve that issue entirely.

If phones have to OPT IN to be a part of the network, will they not help report other lost devices? If so, that is going to severly limit the whole network.

My understanding was that it's opt in by defualt (I thought the email is so you can turn off the find my network) believe the KZbinr was incorrect as it been off by defualt would make it work unreliable (guess I find out around the 27th)

@@Swaggi10 it's on by default, but the option set is for when there is Mutiple android phones nearby (to provide just 1 Android phone for a report you have to change it to bottom option, unsure how that will work out in the wild but considerable amount of Android phones out there so probably still work fine) I got it working on s21, but a53 5g hasn't enabled it even thought it's signed in with same account (see the tag when pairing but won't goto next page to accept agreement) I still like the Samsung smarttag due to the 7 day history function just don't buy the + version just the 2 (apple and Google only shows you it's last reported ping) should Note Samsung has a bug where the smarttag 2 and + randomly reboots (plays the battery inserted sound) seem they copy pasted the code from Smarttag+ into the 2 and said jobs done 👍 they need to fix the crashing/rebooting bug as they randomly 1 or twice per 1-4 days reboot Good thing with Google tag (recommended Pebblebee as they are rechargeable) is you can use it with a Samsung phone with also a smarttag2 and have a iPhone 11 or higher with airtag (don't use 3rd party tags with apple as no way to locate them once close by, needs UWB witch non of the apple 3rd party tags don't have )

Chipolo Plans to send the first chipolo one at the 27. May, in Germany. So I think that is a good indicator when Google plans to launch the network in Germany

I would love the “unknown tracker alert” explained a bit more… Let’s say I have a tracker in my backpack. The backpack gets stolen. The thief takes it home. The thief gets notified on his android phone that there’s an unknown tracker (because it’s not associated with his phone/google account) somewhere near him? Backpack and it’s content lost forever…

Yes it works like this. They did this feature mostly for those incidents when thiefs tagged cars, so they can steal later on. But yeah it can backfire as well.

Go to your Google account and look for your old devices. You can remove them remotely from your phone.

You can share locations on Google maps, telegram or signal. With find my you can share trackers as well.

I was SO looking forward to this network, having moved off my iPhone and AirTags, but I'm very disappointed to find out there are no separation alerts in the app. Preventing loss should be the first step, and Google has crippled the network, putting privacy above my lost devices (Apple's is default opt in on all phones). I've decided to rather replace my AirTags with Samsung's SmartTag 2 for now instead, as it does have separation alerts along with UWB support and all the Samsung phones tracking my tags.

is Find My Device still a part of Google Apps or is it built into AOSP? If it's the former then the claim of Google not being able to track your location must be questioned since it would be bound to your Google account, not just a local account which will require you to trust Google's words.

This should have been announced when the airtags came out. So you had the choice of ios or android tracking. We need it worldwide and Samsung should jump in with find my device even though they have smartthings. Just to make the smart tags work more efficiently

FMD DOESN'T WORK IN UK! And forums show its not working in the US yet either. I have two trackers (chipolo one point) when they are away from my phone they do not have the location reported by FMD as that network isn't working yet! Its important for those buying trackers know that for now this won't work. Once FMD becomes correctly operational im sure it will work but if you're wanting one right now i would wait. See if you can find a review of someone testing this and it working away from their own device and reporting from FMD the location i will be very surprised as i haven't found one person in a forum or KZbin with this thing working other than with their own Bluetooth from their own device.

Samsung Find my is much better, you can keep persons for taking off your phone, send it battery saving mode so you can find it. ALSO they have a Auto blocker that prevents people from using USB devices to hack your phone
