The pathing of the ferry is shortest distance, so if you connect the "return" part of the loop further up stream the ferries should loop around as intended.

Also you could delete the "return" part of the loop entirely and have it stop back across the river on the way back. Right now people can get from one side of the river to the other via ferry, but can't get back easily.

Biffa, the Move It mod has a nice slope feature. You can select a bunch of nodes and then slope magic happens (it's a more or less linear slope). Try fiddling with that. It's really nice for longer stretches of (rail-) road. You can get to the slope feature by clicking the triangle button and then the top sub menu and then there it is.

If you just watch yourself build the area and focus you'll notice ;-) And you seemed to have a deathwave going along with the trash wave. remember deathcare, eldercare and childcare for the new area! As for the ferry turning around the way you didn't like: shorten the turnaround and connect it further up such that it is shorter to use the intended way rather than turning around and going back. I write messy, but public transport use the shortest rute in my experience. Thank you Biffa! 😁

I'm catching up on your videos, so maybe you've already solved this issue, but I think the solution to the end-loop of the ferry is actually pretty simple - add that final stop by Texas Tea (people will use ferries to get to work if it's the quickest option - yes, ferries are fun and special, but so are all transport options right up until they become mundane. Just consider how excited some people get over taking a train ride). If you go [north shore -- texas tea -- south shore] and then rejoin the loop, I'm pretty sure you'll get a nicely looped ferry line, as well as making easier access to the oil industry.

Fun fact about those ferry masthead lights- Having a high up all-round light is required in most parts of the world for ships underway, except for in the Rhine river, where the local authorities request that the light be at the same height as the highest deck to prevent collisions with bridges!

I agree with many others here, remove that last part of ferry line you put in so people can cross the river via one stop. Besides that I think the new area is coming along nicely, _really_ enjoyed that night time view and nice roundabouts. I love seeing the tree circles expanding, I don't know why, but I love watching that. Will you put in more paths in between the highrises in the new area so it gets even easier to get around by foot or bicycle? I think ultimately this area could use a metro connection, the ferry line will only get busier down the line when that part of town keeps growing.

You could create shortcuts for the ferry by cutting through the biggest loops on the river with canals. Quick and efficient, also pretty cool looking!
@NavnUkjent
@NavnUkjent 4 жыл бұрын
The new area is coming along nicely, but there are a few problems. First off, the bike path that goes along the river needs more connections to the road network! As it is now, you would have to go a long way if you want to get into the new neighbourhood. It also seems fairly wasteful when you have bike lanes on the roads. You could have put an entire row of houses along the river instead of the bike path. You should also ensure that there is a tram or bus connection near each of the ferry stops, as that will help with the flow of people. You could also pick a new ferry model with more capacity. Those ferries seem quite large and would hold several times the number of passengers in real life. On the other side of the highway from the new area, your roads simply end (and connect together). You also have a road from the first high-density area that simply ends. If you connect that road to the highway exit, you could remove that ugly slip-lane tunnel near the other exit. Finally, you haven't shown it lately, but have you expanded the post office coverage? I remember that you didn't put any into the industry area, and presumably they also need the post service.

Think the bridge height Ctrl+H uses the height above bottom of the map (H=0) as the reference, rather than height above ground. Which is why when you tried to use that other bridge as a reference to get the bridge near the new area to clear the ferry it didn't work. It set it to the same height as the bridge downstream, but the surrounding land is higher than downstream so it didn't give it any actual clearance over the water. if you want to see the difference in height you could take the furthest quay wall downstream and set it to the same height as the furthest upstream, you're going to end up with a wall a few meters higher than the surrounding walls.

10:28 Wouldn't it make more sense to connect the ferry to the red line which then brings passengers to places (industry) further away from the river by moving the ferry stop closer to the bridge? Or the two tram lines switch their paths through the starting district. Purple line is already offering a cross river connection - the ferry loop is an one-way-rival offering a similar service.

Personally I use the Empty It! mod to help manage my garbage, cemeteries, and...erm...I can't remember the last one, but I mostly use it for when I need to relocate the landfills or cemeteries for whatever reason, or when I want to dump the dead into a crematorium because the cemetery serves as a buffer for deathcare services. It has a setting that lets you turn on or off emptying by default, and I usually leave both on, to empty when almost full and to stop emptying around 30%, except that I turn off the re-enabling behavior when I'm trying to empty out a cemetery that I need to move, because IIRC Move it! leaves the ghost of the original LOT in the grid space, which works fine for small tweaks but not if I need to move the whole thing into a different map sector.

I was worried that you set up that new area without a pile of Biffa boulders, but you came through in the end

The part where you wanted to have two separate ferry lines for going up and coming down.. what you can do is have one line that goes to the depot and another for the regular line... It should not always need to go to depot during every trip.. that will be good

You could easily solve some of your line capacity issues by using some higher capacity vehicles off the workshop. There are some really nice double decker buses, bendy buses, bigger ferries (project meteor hydrofoil one is really cool) and some gorgeous trams too

Great video Biffa, even though I play on console your use of rocks and trees on roundabouts gives me ideas. And " Shrubbery " , that was pure Monty Python.

4:55 Dedicated turning lanes probably not auto clicking because one direction only has a single lane so it can't give you a dedicated lane.

You should use canals to create shortcuts across the peninsulas so the ferries don’t have to go the long way around.

I really like the UK style roundabouts with rocks and shrubs. I'm going to give that a go later on. Also might try for a British transit system as well, left hand drive, no road maintenance, high traffic and late trains lol.

you might consider a bus-ferry stop for the one next to the ferry depot and then tie it into the bus routes there in that high density area at the passenger train station as well as a bus to that station. that make it so people coming into the city by train could use a bus to transfer to the ferry to go to the other two areas and switch to tram or bus. also, are there bigger ferries? 50 per boat seems tiny. you might end up with a continuous stream of them on the river. and lastly, please try and raise those bridges so that they clear the masts on the ferries. great episode otherwise.

If you build a nature reserve on the island, it could be called ‘BrownTea Island’ after Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour, Dorset :)

I noticed that issue with the garbage facilities in my game too. It seems like a bug or something because that doesn’t seem like how it’s supposed to work that way

I like these spread out sections. Maybe put a long distance bus route in to help with public transport, or could you use a long distance metro or train line?

Great episode today Biffa. Just don't forget about the childcare and eldercare for the new areas. The buildings have an area of effectiveness so won't cover the new parts of the city.

you could make a park in one of those medium islands in the middle of the river, only having access via ferry, with a different line.

you should try using the flatter river boats for your ferry routes, you wont have to raise you bridges quite so high, maybe that just in AVO though.
