We struggled to settle in on a church. It starts out okay, but after trying several churches it has always comes down to one thing, MONEY. We are very turned off by churches who continually press their members for money. We understand that money is needed to finance the operations of the church, but is it really necessary that each year there is some new vision that the church has placed as a goal which will require members to commit to giving more & more. When attending one of the churches we were met with 2 envelopes upon entering the church. One of the envelopes was to collect for tithes & offerings, and the other envelope was to collect money for the pastor's birthday. That was our last visit there. The church we attend now is good. However we need to have more time to further evaluate our growth. I find myself doing ministry outside of the church with the homeless community. It gives me more of a sense of God's work & mission. We'll keep praying.

It's definitely a challenge to find a church that aligns with your values, especially when financial pressures seem to overshadow the true mission. I'm glad you’ve found a place that feels right for now, and your work with the homeless community is truly commendable!

Getting into a great church home after a move is so important. We moved to a high tourist area where in some churches the visitors are assumed to be there for one Sunday and then gone. The moment we stepped into our new church home we were made to feel so welcomed. Most importantly, God’s Word is preached every Sunday. We knew we would not feel a part of any church until we made the effort to connect with others so we joined a Sunday school class and became involved in other ways. We love our church and are excited to get there each week.

I don’t do church but in my state there is a prominent church that I was raised in but I don’t believe church is a necessary unless you feel it is something you think you need or want. On the other hand if there is one prominent religion in your state and you live in a small town and you’re not active as a member it does affect things that go on. Like when my kids were in school and sports and friends. It has gotten a lot better since I was growing up.

Timely video for me. We are in the process of looking for a new church. Our church is going through some leadership changes. Our problem is finding a church that teaches the whole bible and has all kinds of different people groups. (Like heaven) My wife is the one more concerned about the music. I’m not so much. Being conservative, It been very difficult to find a good fit for my family. We will continue to look. I’m sure it’s out there.

Just don’t join a church that doesn’t treat women as equals. They should be able to officially serve in every position, including all boards. It’s what Jesus wants.
