I've really focused most of my fishing attention on walleyes and what has surprised me the most is how much walleyes love weeds. I prefer good weeds over rocks or wood any day.

The stuff you're calling grass is called chara. I did an aquatic plant survey a while back with a local fisheries staffer and remembered that one since iit's so prevalent in central MN. I've seen plenty of weed walleyes snorkeling in MN. We go to Manitoba and snorkel spearfish for walleye, and I got some in the weeds last year for the first time. Keep up the fun and educational vids.
@tjsguideservice2 ай бұрын
Yes! This is what I was looking for! That’s what I always called it, but didn’t know if that was what it was actually called so I just stick with grass. 😂 Appreciate that insight! Also, snorkeling is big time on my to do list. Would love to see what’s really below these lakes!
@aaronalto30342 ай бұрын
@@tjsguideservice Yes, get yourself a basic snorkel kit, some flippers, and mask and snorkel. Be sure to spit lots of spit foam into each dry mask lens and use fingers to spread it all around the lenses, then dip in briefly for a rinse, then shake water out and put your mask on and you'll be fog free. People struggle with fogging. Then jump in and swim lily pad weed lines, and deeper weed humps and drops, and you'll enjoy seeing the fish in their world. You can also take a crappy rod and put 3-4 ft of line on with a jig and plastic, and fish for bluegills and bass, watching them respond to your offering. Crappies are more finicky, but i have caught a couple if they are feisty on a weed line. Rivers and below dams are fun to swim too, but not right now with so much water flowing. Keep up the fun adventures.

I don’t have a specific video, but try to include a lot of screen shots and circle the fish in a lot of my videos. One tip is - Hard bottom - look for the shadows of the fish. Soft bottom. Look for the bright return from the fish itself

Hey TJ, love the videos, I was wondering if you could give some input on the yolotek pole. Im looking to purchase one but am concerned about whether it can remain intact while running at 50km/hr in chop. The last thing anyone wants is a cam in the water! Thank you!
@InformativeAnglingАй бұрын
Also thought id mention/recommend the hercules handcuff from arc labs for your livescope pole! My scanning/running and gunning style I would say is likely very similar to yours and having that hercules cuff is an absolute game changer for pole stability! The ability to idle at 5mph with your pole staying completely vertical is absolutely amazing and lets me cover water extremely fast, i know when I used to fish without it the bend in the pole while going at higher scanning speeds was extremely frustrating!
@tjsguideserviceАй бұрын
Appreciate that! I have liked my yolotek pole! Seems to do well even at higher speeds for me. A little depends on your boat nav light plug in as well. Some even screw in with the attachment provided so they are more stable!

That’s awesome and I’m glad it works well because I was definitely wanting to try that!

How many northers or bass do you have to fight off when doing this tactic of fishing weed for eyes?
@tjsguideservice2 ай бұрын
Definitely depends on the body of water, but bass and panfish are frequent with slip bobbers. Not as many pike with bobbers and leeches, but with minnows for sure!

Would you use the same program on a river system?
@tjsguideservice2 ай бұрын
I fish very few rivers, so I am not the best person to ask, but I imagine they relate to weeds in similar ways in low current areas!

Just had a quick question regarding your arc lab pole. I recently purchased one but mainly fish from the bow of the boat. With the way the pole came the handle sits too low for my liking. How did you extend yours higher seeing as the turning point is set at a certain spot on the pole?

I actually got an extension piece and took of the handle and put the extension on and then re attached the handle on the extension
