I see carbon, alloy, steel, titanium, old and new bikes on audax rides, I'd say comfort is the priority .so whatever suits you is best.👍

Well said! I will not be using a carbon frame that's for certain, any frame that fits from 49cm - 51cm with tyre clearence 28 to 32 for my comfort is what I am looking at. Not too bothered about super duper specs like has to be ultegra or carbon wheels but I am hoping to find one with disc brakes but will be happy with rim if not. mmm just described a Triban ?

Hi, being a gram-weenie is all well and good, but you'll find it makes little or no difference in the long run, comfort is always my main priority on an audax. Each to their own though, all the best.

Comfort is king sure, nothing wrong with dropping a few grams off the bike & for me a few KG's off the waist to add to that comfort.

Whatever bike you've got, up to 300k. Above that speed starts to matter a bit, but not as much as comfort. I've done the Dunwich Dynamo twice, it's 200k, once on an old Dawes Galaxy and once on a Surly Crosscheck. Both times I was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. No problem at all. People were cycling alongside me on Bromptons, Postmens' bikes, mountain bikes, even a Penny Farthing. I was 65 the first time I did it and 67 the second. I am nothing more than a fairly regular cyclist with no pretensions to going fast. I've never worn lycra. The only stipulation I would make , for myself, is to have the drops at roughly the same height as the saddle. If you're young you might want to slam the stem but not at my age.

Some fine distances, in jeans no less !! comfort is certainly something that makes or breaks a ride for me. I shall raise my glass/ tip my hat to the regular cyclist, for a safe journey and enjoyable ride.

Some sensible upgrades there Tom, but dont get too focussed on weight for Audax. Youll have a much better idea about what you want when you've got a couple under your belt. Gears need to lean more to spinning than grinding, particularly on the longer Audaxes IMO. Looking forward to sharing your journey👍.

Put a Wolflink on the rear mech, means you can put any gear cassette you like on. I've an 11/42 on my Boardman. I prefer to spin than grind those gears.
