Mildly panicking about a plot hole I found in draft 7 and continuing to edit this draft so I can finish the book!

I have a scene in my wip where a guy is puking in some bushes, then a fight breaks out. For literally YEARS I had all the characters walk back inside after the fight and leave that poor guy in the bushes by himself. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Good afternoon, Sara! I'm glad you had a wonderful vacation and get to watch a new vlog from you which I have missed seeing, plus hearing about your process with Project DE and whatever you've been up to. I'm trying to race against time to get draft 2 of my second book done before the 18th of this month due to seeing a neurosurgeon for my back, which will be my 5th surgery. Anyway, have a lovely day and happy editing. ❤

🥹 thank you. Sometimes it feels like I'm just spinning my wheels and then I have to take a step back and remember how far I've come and how much the book has improved. And I'm really enjoying the nitty-gritty of this stage :)

Have you considered a video on what you learned through all the drafts of DE? That would be an interesting video about how you plan to tackle the next novel you write.

😊 I love these writing vlogs! In case you don't like your edit to fix the plot hole with the female character who does not have a horse I'll share a free idea that I think will be very relatable. ... As devastated as Lady Samantha had been over her trusty steed fleeing in fear after that rare storm that rained sea bass, she knew that she never would have grown into the woman that she had become now proudly writing her rhinoceros triumphantly into the sunset.

What if we had some kind of writer’s meet up or social event or trip or something where we all met up at a conference center hotel or Barnes & Noble to work on our pieces together then maybe went hiking. How cool would that be?

Without giving away the plot point, I'm wondering if you can satisfy my curiosity regarding the one character's lack of a horse. Is it related in any way to a Chekhov's gun?? Would there be a way for you to turn it into a red-herring Chekhov's gun where the reader *thinks* it will come into play before you recall an earlier plot point to pull the rug out and send the red herring through a trapdoor ... only to bring an actual Chekhov's gun into play as a substitute? (Fun fact: this is a trick used by the writers of the first Toy Story to make the climax less stale. Not gonna spoil Toy Story for anyone who hasn't seen it, but if you HAVE seen it I think you know what I'm talking about.) Your instinct for procrastination makes the sassy old lady in me go "tsk tsk task, naughty naughty". Never heard of a chapter cloning itself through oversight, and then you notice it and straight-up kill the excess chapter. But I bet that happens to authors all the time.

no idea of anything, but why do you need to delete so many words? also, what does the yellow highlight mean?
@SaraLubratt
@SaraLubratt 24 күн бұрын
My manuscript was at 133k and I’m trying to get it below 110k to query it. The yellow highlights were my past self leaving my future self notes on sentences that didn’t feel like they were 1. Necessary or 2. Worded quite right so future me would go back and take a look at them again with different eyes

Hello, I'm an aspiring writer with an odd question. I have a passion for creating stories, but I have no talent. I was born with a litany of mental disabilities and with a low IQ. Despite my attempts, I've been unable to improve my intelligence in a way that would yield any merit, both in writing and in a number of pursuits. I'm in my late 40s and I believe it's too late to build any career in writing.I've been wasting my time and energy in trying to write a number of books to no avail. This passion for story creation will not leave me. Any advice on how to eliminate this passion for writing? It's not going anywhere and there is no extrinsic value for me if I continue with this dream.
@SaraLubratt
@SaraLubratt 24 күн бұрын
Does the act of writing bring you joy? You called it a passion which in and of itself is value. Your 40s are definitely not too late to build a career writing but if you enjoy it, it’s not a waste of time. If you really want to finish a story but that hasn’t worked yet, could you change the goal length of the project or try writing in a different form? Like maybe a 100k novel isn’t working, but maybe writing a tv script would? I know that’s not the answer you were looking for but the extrinsic value of something is not the only thing to be considered. Not everything you do needs to be monetized. If you enjoy it, you can simply do it for that sake
